It's becoming a trend... people are streaming their friends on Facebook, singing karaoke (I've been tagged in several videos).
Sometimes its several people at streaming at once.
It's not like you need a video camera anymore, most current phones shoot in high def and some even in 4K. I've seen people live streaming everywhere.
It's also not something we as KJs can really control... I can't be everywhere, and just go around telling everyone to put their phones away. So I am beginning to wonder what the legal issues are on this. After all, it's copyrighted work, and technically, it is being broadcast on Facebook. How much is a KJ/Venue responsible for live streaming?
I was wondering if FB had some sort of filter that would recognize if the work was copyrighted (like playing the actual song through FB), but It hasn't blocked the videos of karaoke singers... yet.
While I'm sure some karaoke manufacturers won't have an issue, others might.
So what are KJs doing about live streaming these days?

YouTube seems to filter some stuff, perhaps FB will step up after a few complaints.
The KJs or Venues are not doing the streaming, right? No harm no foul?

Why would you be held liable for someone else's live stream? That's just completely illogical.
The basic letter of copyright law is that YOU can't use the intellectual property without expressed permission/proper licencing for YOUR monetary gain. There's nothing wrong with someone else using it "recreationally." If the publisher has a problem with YouTube/Facebook or whoever allowing their content on their service, they will reach out and ask for a cease/desist for them to take it down, which they do all the time today. The fact that they are filming you/your show doesn't change the liability. The liability falls on the one making the video and any service that allows that video to display publicly, not you!

I've seen kjs that do both the live stream and recordings of their shows and post them on their pages.

Considering that people who are watching the live stream aren't in the venue, I can't see how they can make money on it. Maybe if my people knew they were going to be live streamed, someone in a different part of the country can watch them. Cats Meow in NOLA used to do this a while back. We told friends we would be on the webcam and to tune in while we were on vacation.

Can streaming to FB be done without a cell phone? Like using a real camera that does video or a web cam?
