For modern stuff, there is no competition, since they can't seem to get licensed to make new music. I actually can't believe that you would say the PHM was even close to SC in Quality, though. SBI and Zoom are the closest in quality, now-a-days.
BTW, SBI does some pretty damn good Country. I like a lot of the PHM music, but I have SC versions of practically all of it so I use SC. I could do all 3 venues I work at with Sound Choice, Chartbuster, and Pioneer (Myself and many others love the cheesy videos) + iCroons downloads. Point being (and I think the point Bazaa was trying to make), if I could only choose a single vendor for karaoke music produced up to 2009, it would be Sound Choice. I think the people that deny it just don't want to admit they will have anything to do with Sound Choice. They are too jaded. -Chris

That's not true. Now that I am running shows on a regular basis, I am ALWAYS looking for songs. I have been singing Karaoke since 1994. I have been exposed to many different brands over the years. The ONLY thing over the years that attracted me to Sound Choice was they were the only ones that would do Metal and Hard Rock. That's my thing. Always has been. Dangerous did a few good ones, but SC was the Rock specialist. SBI is starting to take over in that area. They have put out some stuff that SC never thought to put out, like Burn from Deep Purple. I am finding PLENTY of quality tracks from SBI that could directly compete with SC AND CB for quality. There is nothing to deny. SC had their day in the sun, but they chose a different path. Somebody will ALWAYS be around to fill the void.

If I were starting today and I knew everything I know, I would not have a single track from SC or CB. I wouldn't be a pirate either. So SC's contention that the steep drop in sales is largely based on piracy is quite flawed. There steep drop in consumer (non litigation) sales coincides directly with the advent of quality (and early even not the best quality) single song download sites and that is no coincidence. I would bet only a hand full of people that post or read here are much different than me. If I had to do it today, I would do bulk purchases from KV (they do offer them if you ask) and tricerasoft. I would have probably paid a little more per song, but I would not have paid SC three times for "Don't Stop believing". And I wouldn't touch GEM due to all the bull that comes with doing shows with SC material. And I am not knocking GEM. I think it is a fantastic value and those that use it made a very wise choice FOR THEMSELVES. I would simply make a choice to not support SC and even less to support CB (and now PR\DT).

They keep a record of what you buy and download from them. If there was ever a problem you could tell them to go look at their records and if the song you were playing during their visit was purchased before their visit, they have nothing to go on. Which is the same with Tricerasoft, and any of the other download sights. If Sound Choice COULD put together such a download system I would GLADLY buy from them. Then if they were to name me in a suit, I could tell them to just check their own records.

Knowing what I know, and having been a karaoke singer since the mind 90's, I would do everything I have done exactly the same way, *except* for my very first purchase (it was a Vocopro system with a laptop and a pirate hard drive) and my Stellar CAP. In spite of me liking a lot of the Stellar material, I could have saved a lot of money buy doing bulk disc buys or looking for individual discs I wanted.

Buy a GEM and use it across multiple concurrent systems and you can and should be sued. Get audited and then use the same tracks across multiple concurrent systems, same thing. It isn't the free pass you make it out to be.
-Chris Just as I will concede Chris that SC if the product has been stolen has the right to expect the fair retail value of the product paid to them. My mind has never run to having multiple concurrent systems. I'm perfectly satisfied keeping it simple one host one machine, not having to be concerned with what the other host might be doing. I will also concede that if I were going to stay in business for any length of time and use the SC product, I would license the GEM series. It would only make sense since it would be another form of insurance to protect my business and the venues I work for from a possible legal suit. Having said all of that for where I'm at in my hosting career with only about 90 days left, I should just stand pat. Of course I will have to hold on to my materials for at least three years after I quit, according to Jim statute of limitation requirements.

Call me a conspiracy theorist but I believe DT and PR are the same thing, hiding out from people who have won claims against their sins. As bad some people think SC is, CB seems to have been the worst two headed snake out there. So I chose to not support DT\PR\CB. It's my own theory and I am not going to try to sell anyone else on it or defend it.

Insane, This thread is 18 pages long. If anyone in their right mind thinks the opening topic will still be the center of conversation after THREE pages, they are, well, Insane. Would you please Post police somewhere else? This thread needs to be open because it looks like there is more activity happening in Vegas. When that becomes relevant, I am sure this thread will return somewhere close to the OP. You've been one of the worst OP derailers there is, and it seems to be ok, as long as it is you blowing SC smoke up donkey bottoms.
