I agree, the high end stuff can actually technically sound close to the original instrument, but it isn't always so, and certainly not when we're talking about the karaoke tracks in the OP.

Problem with that is that it now loses much of the nuances of live play. It becomes dry, with no feeling. I can usually tell when drums are programmed, for instance. Perfect isn't always better.
Similar to losing the warm sound of LP's, when compared to CDs.

I agree, it's very clinical, but there is software that will insert 'feeling', but attempting to be more human. Most chart music doesn't care about feeling though. They just want acceptable music that will make a quick buck. Don't even care if the singer can sing. So long as the face fits, run 'em through Autotune, thanks to Simon Cowell - my hero.

MIDI Bass, MIDI Drums, MIDI Violin, MIDI Piano, absolutely..but do Stevie Ray Vaughn's Pride & Joy with a MIDI guitar sound and you'll have the version even guys like me say, "Dude.. I ain't singing to that'.
What sounds particularly bad with MIDI guitar is the string bends and trills.
Maybe I only notice it because i'm a guitar player.

I have to step back in at this point and make a point.............. This is the MOST educational site I've EVER been on.. it doesn't matter the question, if a person takes the time to read and think about each opinion and thought given they come up with a working "system" for themselves............. Of all the midi guitar SoundChoice, SB et al use.
You have to be a guitarist and a half to spot the difference.

Even SC and the BEST karaoke tracks have a hard time getting it totally right. Yes, they come close, but I've yet to hear "perfection" from a source other than the original.
Midi still sounds like midi, no matter how good the programs or programmers are.
Close, yes, but not the same.
And it still doesn't negate my point about the karaoke tracks of the OP. I KNOW they're going to be the bottom of the barrel and just the kind of garbage of which I'm speaking.

Piracy was one of the main reasons why Canadian producers shut down. They wanted to do more but without money coming in from sales (due to piracy), they couldn't afford to do more.
Actually last week I was googling (.ca) for Toronto karaoke (moving there within a year) to get a feel for the market and the culture and I found a review that said one host is is very talented (they are looking for hosts with a big sense of humor and plenty of jokes) but was a bit lacking in song selection with only 35,000 songs.

That had to have been a typo. They must have meant 3,500 songs.
To a complete novice, 35,000 songs sounds like a lot.
Seasoned karaoke singers and those in the know understand it's not the total number of songs you have, but WHAT songs you have.
In the last 10 years, i'd be lucky to have had any more than 300 or 400 unique songs requested.
