Cueball, yes some disc based hosts have purchased DTE track and received permission to shift them to disc so they can play them. You are one of 5 I know that have done so with written permission from DTE.

From speaking directly with publishing houses I am not concerned about needing permission from them IF I have the permission from the karaoke manufactures. Yes my CB certification has expired and I will be a number of months without one before another audit is done...and that is a risk I am willing to absorb :D

8) I believe that is what our old friend James said "all material is free if you are willing to assume the risk", just switch assume for absorb. I really never pictured you a much of a gambler Athena. I mean the way you focus in the legality and purity of the product that you use in your show. In a way when you run your own business you have to gamble, sometimes you win sometimes you loose. Much like when you do your gig sometimes you have a crowd sometimes the cupboard is like Old Mother Hubbard's it's bare. It is nice to know that you would even accept a certain amount of risk, since that is what being in business is all about. One question Athena what if the publishers change their minds at some future date like the manus did and require permission also, then what? Pay them also further reducing your slim profit margin.

Interesting comment from the article:
Quote:
I think the main issue with many song writers disallowing it (karaoke), is they said they didnt want their music used "commercially" .. Which I think in many cases was aimed at "commercials" or companies using their music, but also disallows access from ANYONE wanting a sync license.

I always assumed they, like Don Henley, just didn't like karaoke. But since Karaoke needs a sync license and a sync license also means the song could be used in some crappy car commercial, songwriters just say "screw it" and dissallow the whole thing.
