Right on mrmarog it's amazing what the mainstream media reports.
Or what they DO NOT REPORT.

Lots of interesting connections there huh!

Only if you pay attention to the media :)

I see the smiley, but i would have expected way more than that from you. Where do you or any one get their information to vote intelligently if they don't follow some sort of news. Low information voters are a real problem and "we the people" need to be way more informed, and have a desire to search out the truth, when the truth matters.

Sorry for the delay, I was on a much needed mini-vacation.

My post was in jest. I of course pay attention to the media. I don't have Cable/Satellite/OTA TV though, so most of my news consumption comes from reading news sites. I read a LOT of different sites. Even the ones I wholeheartedly disagree with.

I completely agree that an educated voter is the best voter and they needs to know all sides to be informed. I vote in practically every election cycle be that local, state, federal and have since I was 18.

As someone who has worked in the "mainstream media" all his life, I have to take issue with this urban legend that Radio & TV newsrooms across America are "being paid" or somehow being told what to cover by someone...anyone.

There are no shadowy men with briefcases telling News Directors what to cover or not cover. It simply isn't true and if you truly believe this, you have swallowed the conspiracy theorists/talk radio FUD. Honestly, those of us who HAVE worked in such places find it downright silly.

So Bazza, none of these relationships below have any influence on what news hits the front pages. And it seems only conservatives have FUD, and somehow ALL liberals are as pure as the driven snow.... talk about urban legends.

2) Benjamin J. Rhodes (born 1977) is the current deputy national security adviser for strategic communication for U.S. President Barack Obama. Rhodes is married to Ann Norris, chief foreign policy adviser to Senator Barbara Boxer.[citation needed] His brother, David, is president of CBS News

3) Claire Shipman is an American television journalist, currently the senior national correspondent for the ABC program, Good Morning America. She also blogs at the website True/Slant. She is married to Jay Carney, President Barack Obama's former White House Press Secretary.[

4) Matthew Jaffe, a reporter for ABC News and Univision who most recently covered the GOP primary, has married a member of Pres. Obama’s press team. Jaffe married Katie Hogan, the president’s deputy press secretary, in Lake Geneva, WI over the weekend

5) The list of prominent news people with close White House relations includes ABC News President Ben Sherwood, who is the brother of Elizabeth Sherwood-Randall, a top national-security adviser to President Obama.

6) CNN’s deputy Washington bureau chief, Virginia Moseley, is married to Tom Nides, who until earlier this year was deputy secretary of state under Hillary Rodham Clinton.

All this data came from WikiPedia and the Washington Post. Debunk away.

LMAO! Do you have any idea how many "Producers" and "Bureau Chiefs" there are in TV and radio news? Obviously not. Tens of thousands. Of all political persuasions. Six people do not a conspiracy make. This is like looking at thousands of deliveries made to the WTC the week before 9/11 and saying AHA! These 6 people have middle eastern names! Obviously they were involved! Coverup!

You are swallowing opinions fed to you about an industry, a business, you know nothing about. You know what determines coverage? Advertising. You know how they get advertising? Ratings. You know how they get ratings? They give their audience what they want to hear. This is why FOX/ABC/NBC/CBS/Al Jazeera/etc broadcasts what they do. It isn't shadowy agents or some conspiracy. Radio & TV are private, money making BUSINESSES.

Nobody in a dark suit came to you and told you not to play death metal at Karaoke Night. You aren't being told what not to play. You do what your audience wants and what will get you more fans. That's what they do too.

And YOU are in the know because you say you are, and you run a karaoke show! WOW is all I can say... I am impressed. I bow to you, and truly appreciate the enlightenment. I will sleep so much better now knowing that I don't have to ever worry about anything on the mainstream news being even slightly misleading. For now on I am a believer.

Are you saying that sensationalism isn't important and only the truth is when earning money in the news? In the old days "News" was for airing the top stories, and advertisements from entertainment shows paid the bills. Today's greedier media owners have turned "news" into entertainment, in hopes of capturing more advertising dollars even if it takes a little yarn spinning to make it happen. As Lon alluded to none of them can be trusted so pick your poison. With that I can agree. What I can't agree with is the notion that high ranking political ties with high ranking news people means nothing, because there are soooooo many of them. Oh where do I start.

Bazza, I agree with you on many things but on how you propose to spend my money and protect my family we are worlds apart.

And actors marry producers, cops to medical staff or journalists, doctors to nurses, lawyers to judges, because that is where there jobs take them and those are the people they meet and love may bloom and marriages happen. It's mostly the circles they run in.

My day job has been in broadcasting since I was 16. Thought you knew that. Hey! You keep believing what Rush Limbaugh says. He's doing the same thing. Telling his audience what they want to hear for ratings.

If you want to believe that, go ahead. But I can tell you that even in the days of Walter Cronkite it's always been a business. And its always been about the ratings.

Are some outlets more sensational than others? Of course! But nobody is TELLING anyone to do it. No sinister government agents. No marionette strings. No conspiracy. It's the business.

You need a new tin foil hat if you believe politicians are somehow steering newscasts across the country or have the power to bury a story. I work in the industry and it simply isn't true, but I cant prove a negative.
