The harder question to grasp is why Sound Choice would advertise something for sale and not tell you what it is. You cheerleaders need to stop and have a reality check. Whoever heard of paying that much money for something and not know what it is? Why can't Sound Choice join all the successful karaoke companies and offer single downloads? Problem solved and everybody happy. All their tracks are already available for free, why not offer those of us who would pay for quality single tracks the chance to buy them?

If "THE LIST" was going to be a positive selling point, it would be out there for all to see. If J.K. Rowling was going to write a new book that had nothing at all to do with Harry Potter, do you think the same number of people would be waiting in line to buy it as there were for every Harry Potter book that came out. That would be a big fat NO! People want information. Not everyone interested in karaoke is a karaoke host. I don't subscribe to any monthly karaoke deals. I only want the songs that I plan on singing. A Taylor Swift disc may be a great buy for a karaoke host but I have no use for it. Sound Choice would put a great Tom Petty song on that disc to get Tom Petty fans to buy 14 Taylor Swift songs that they don't need or want.... and then they wonder why people figure out how to beat them at their own game. Now they want to sell you 1200 songs sight unseen. Shiver me timbers!

Well first of all SC has put out a number of Artists discs. Second of all, more people would probably say what the heck is Tom Petty doing on a Taylor Swift disc as she is hotter than Tom Petty is.

If you aren't a professional KJ SC will not sell you this product, period.

And if you are, and you want to wait to buy until you see the song list, that's fine, too.

And for anyone who thinks SC doesn't know what it's doing, consider for a moment that we're still talking about this after two weeks.

Here are some questions for thought, not necessarily soliciting a direct answer from someone who considers themselves "in the know":

1) The song lists for the other GEM Series discs are on the site. Were they there when they started selling them? And were they there when they were offered at discount prices? If so, the bar is set and shouldn't be deviated from.

2) Does requesting sales before a product is finished (for sake of discussion this is based on the lack of a published list) come across as a "fund-raising" effort? One can come to their own conclusion what that scenario might indicate...

1) Irrelevant. There is no principle at stake.

2) SC isn't "requesting" sales. It announced a product with future availability to a group of people who might want to buy it. By buying early, they get a discount. That's a normal business practice. Why are you trying to cast aspersions?

I have always considered myself a bit of a consumer advocate. Any questions I pose are to spur the thought processes for those consuming or interested in consuming a product. It just seems that when an entity goes down the litigation road, it opens them up to a whole new level of transparency, which can be a two-edged sword. If a consumer is going to open themselves up to a certain level of transparency, then they should ask no less of the entities they purchase from.

In a more general sense, the whole purpose of a forum is to spur thought processes. It should not be diminished in any way, within the scope of the forum rules.

I wonder if you have any idea the number of entities, many large international ones, go down the litigation road. You know the Disney's, the Coca Colas, MacDonald's, Wal-Marts, and so on. There are courts all over the world dealing with case for and against these companies. I don't think they are worrying about such things, other than taking care of business at hand.

But they did tell us what it is. 1200 additional non-duplicated GEM songs, coming soon.

Have you not been following along? Evidently not.

Many examples earlier in this thread, some that cost MUCH more than karaoke songs. I suggest you read them.

I would like to see them do this as well, but this has nothing to do with the early-bird GEM pre-sale.

Some home building companies like to get future buyers to put up money before the first shovel of dirt is turned on a new project. This is usually done to get the builder some start up money to get the project started and yes, sometimes these early buyers may get a bit of a discount on the price of the home that they will eventually own. However, these people also get, at least, a floor plan and a materials list of what will be used in building their new home. They don't put up thousands of dollars with the promise of getting "a house" that could be any piece of garbage that the builder decides to put together on the cheap. they know EXACTLY what kind of floors the house will have. They know EXACTLY what kinds of wall coverings the house will have, inside and out. They know EXACTLY how many rooms their house will have and how many bathrooms their house will have. They will know EXACTLY what kind of heating and Air Conditioning system their new house will have. They will be able to choose what kind of counters they will have and what kind of appliances their new house will have as well.

Same thing when people want to buy a car. They want information. Yes, some people might order next years model before it is even available but car manufacturers have a history of making very few changes in their cars on a yearly basis. If I want next years Corvette; I already have a pretty good idea of what to expect when it shows up at the dealer's lot. But when I order it, I get to at least pick the color, if it's a convertible or not, and what engine it will have in it. I don't give the dealer 50 grand and let him give me whatever happens to show up on the lot. I wanted a "Little Red Corvette" and the dealer tried to give me a Little Red Camaro instead saying it was still a Chevrolet Sports Car. Why the long face?

Read s-l-o-w-l-y and try to comprehend.

If you want to pay full price, you can wait until the list comes out. Then you will know exactly what you are buying. If you want a DEAL, you buy the set now during the pre-release sale.

See? It's really not a difficult concept.

Just so we can understand: Are you claiming to know for a fact that the y are withholding the list as a pre-sale tactic, and that the price will increase in conjunction with the release of the set? I have not read anything in this forum that leads me to believe that you are in a position to have this information (if I overlooked it, I apologize, of course)...

There was a big story around here last year right about this time of year about a company that had taken quite a few early payments for PROM DRESSES that were to be custom made. Well PROM Time came and all of these girls had no dresses and the place had closed down and the owners could not be found. Kind of like Chartbuster selling thousands of credits for songs when they knew they would be going out of business shortly. Chartbuster used to have a good reputation too... and then they went for a cash grab before going under without paying off the legal judgements against them...and now we have Digitrax, that just happens to have many of the same employees selling the same songs. Who's to say that Sound Choice couldn't do the same thing? get a few hiundred people to pony up $500 bucks apiece and they walk away with a fast $150,000 and then declare bankruptcy and re open as ....let's call it DigiChoice.

Sound Choice hasn't put out a single new song in years. Are we supposed to believe that they made 1200 NEW songs during that time that they've been just sitting on? These are just songs that weren't even good enough to make it on to the GEM series, that most people will probably never use. That is why the titles are being held as a secret. If people knew what titles were going to be on it, They probably wouldn't sell 50 of them. It's been said many times before on this Forum and many others. You can do a great show with only a couple of thousand songs if you have the right 2000 songs. That being said those 2,000 songs should have been included in the Gem Series already. The only thing needed after that are NEW RELEASES that the younger crowd might be looking to sing. What this reminds me of is one of those TV shows where people buy what is in a storage locker from someone who didn't pay their bill and the storage facilty takes their stuff and tries to auction it off sight unseen because the hope of finding a few GEMS in someone's junk is very tempting to a certain group of people. I would never buy anything like this without knowing the song list. Sound Choice must figure if they sell songs in groups at an expensive price that people will be less likely to share something that they paid a lot of money for. If they sell songs on a single disc, there is always a pirate out there that will spend $25 for the disc and share it the same day with all of his matey's. Anybody sing that new Kenny Chesney song yet? It's called Pirate Flag. I sang it last night. YeeHaw! I bought the All Star Backing track from i-tunes for 99 cents and made the graphics myself in a big FAT font.

Anyone remember Let's Make A Deal? "okay, you've got $500 and you can trade it for what's behind the curtain or you can trade it for what's in the box on Jay's tray." I'll take what's in the box Monty. "okay Jay. Open the box.....drum roll...... You've won 1200 Sound Choice tracks but they are all duplicates of what you already have. ZONK!!! Sorry for your luck. Next Sucker, I mean next Contestant.

and will they still want to sing them in 8 more years when they can go to a karaoke bar and spend some money to support the karaoke venue?

anyone ever hear the expression, "buying a PIG in a poke"?

The scheme entailed the sale of a suckling pig or pup in a poke (bag). The bag would actually contain a cat or dog (not particularly prized as a source of meat), which was sold to the victim in an unopened bag. The French idiom acheter (un) chat en poche (to buy a cat in a bag) refers to an actual sale of this nature, as do many European equivalents, while the English expression refers to the appearance of the trick.
