Was just cruising some old topics and found this: http://www.mtbkaraoke.com/harddrives.html It's in the UK, but geeez, is there anything being done about it? They never say which brands are on the hard drive but with 117,000 songs there would have to be some CB and SC on there. What are the laws in the UK on this? Approx $435 to acquire more tracks than I have ... very low ballpark cost: $18,000 (IF they were one dollar per song, which we all know is way way low)

It's very disheartening.

The ONLY thing disheartening about it is that they are illegal. What a way to get a nice collection. $438.00 and you get over 117,000 songs. Gee, I wonder why there are so many people who buy them.
Here is their legal notice:
Legal Info:
All merchandise is sold as backup only. To abide by International Copyright, the purchaser is agreeing only to use what he/she already owns the copyright to. MTBKaraoke is not responsible for any mis-use.
What a shame.

Ya.. that makes it all ok.... only use the files you already own the discs to. Huh uh, that solves it... no problem there. *dripping sarcasm here*
I'm in a pissy mood.. sorry. In another thread I was told once again that it's the inferior job I do that is the reason I lose gigs to $100 KJ's. That is total BS! I rock the house at my gigs.... people begging me to play just a "little longer".. repeat customers to the point that my rotation is at 15 in the first 5 to 10 minutes .. 28+ by the first 45 minutes. People waiting 2 hours to sing, but they don't go across the street where they could sing in 10 minutes. (Well, one old guy does.. but he has to be in bed by 10!lol)
I get really ticked at the BS! Seeing someone selling HD's for $400 is a huge pile of BS! My mic costs more than that!

To get that number of songs for a song. Damn, it's almost worth buying one of those, and deleting all the SC , CB and PHM and just using what's left. Even if it were only 50,000 songs. Still worth it.

Of that 50,000 at least half would be duplicates. But that's not the point, people buying those are what is hurting those of us that spent massive amounts of money on our libraries. And even if a karaoke producer has gone out of business, it's still illegal to play pirated music. Copyright infringement is copyright infringement. Legally, morally... its what's wrong with society today too! *now I sound like my grandma!*
Whatever. Like I said, I'm in a pissy mood. The whole thing just pisses me off! And if you go buy one of those, I'll be even more upset.. though I know you're smart enough not to tell us here!

It is also an insult to legal Hosts/KJ's who possess integrity and legal, paid for karaoke libraries. Despicable. It would also expose your improbable future clients to liability, the same way a pirate DJ does. Despicable.

MtnKaraoke, Mind if I ask... when you had your SC audit, did your books have to have the disc number in them? I haven't called yet to set up the audit (my mom is having her second surgery next week.. time is not on my side! ) My books don't have the disc numbers anymore...

Well yeah, it'd be nice if those of us that have been doing this for-ev-er didn't have to spend the tens of thousands of dollars that we did. But, the temptation.. to be illegal in a public setting... no temptation for me there. I can see the temptation for a home user MAYBE and that's it. I have too much to lose to even consider being illegal.. it boggles the mind really... the consequences of it. Plus, I am very proud of the business that I've helped build LEGALLY and I'm gonna protect it any way I can.

disk numbers were not in my book for my audit. i did have versions marked in the book though. as for losing to the $100.00 kj, i have almost constant 35-45 singer rotations on a wednesday, more than 2 1/2 hour rotation in a venue with a capacity of 85, many have told the owner (within ear shot of me) that they are glad we are doing 4 nights there and come to see us. i still had to fight tooth and nail to not lose it to this $100.00 host trying to sneak in behind me. i won, but it always feels shaky.

I haven't called yet to set up the audit (my mom is having her second surgery next week.. time is not on my side! ) My books don't have the disc numbers anymore... I was among the first group of about 14 Host/KJ's that went to Charlotte in November 2010 to have the audits done in person at Sound Choice's corporate offices. All of my files are named with the discID and track numbers. I don't use them in my books. The auditor(s) had my HDD and my CD+G's for comparison. The songbook wasn't necessary because my HDD was physically present. Also, as I have mentioned before, I create my songbooks by scanning the actual files using Latshaw's Songlist Generator. I could create 1 copy of a book that includes discID & track number in less than 2 minutes and post a pdf file of the results just as quickly. If I wanted to print it, I could do that at the local printshop for under $25, spiral bound with basic covers. I could also create a single book containing only the files that will be audited/verified and include the discID & track number. There is a FREE solution that I do not willingly endorse, but it might suit your needs. Send a p.m. to c. staley and inquire. Despite the fact that c. staley and I do not agree on much in these forums, I will tell you that I am grateful for his assistance when I was evaluating his product. I chose to go with another product but it was because of technical considerations, not quality or customer service.

I use Latshaws Song List Gen also... hadn't thought about that.. yes, they can look at my book that way. They've already told me that I'll be doing it using Skype. Thank you

Now you're going to bring religion into this to attempt to insult me? Despicable. I never said I was perfect. I hereby grant you permission address me as Mr. Perfect. Sure, why not? I completely understand how stolen goods appeal to a self-declared wannabe thief. That is why I commented on what you wrote, not what I believe your un-stated intention to be.

I'm glad to hear of a bar owner that knew what's good for him! I know the one gig where I got undercut... the KJ will blow the clientele that I had built up and the bar owner will let him go. But this bar owner.. will blame karaoke, not the stupid KJ and won't hire karaoke any longer. Too bad. My regular thurs gig.. 21 yrs there... has told me they would never let me go. It's a happy feeling Even though i know management can change.

Let's leave it at that. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Lisah... you're welcome. I'm happy to help anyone who expresses integrity, honesty, and a sense of ethics. You're the kind of Host/KJ that I will encourage and assist to the best of my abilities.
