My boss informed me that I should not be using my laptop. My boss’ friend residing in Phoenix informed him about the danger of hiring KJ’s using computer in his restaurant. Although I am using laptop in his venue, I also have the originals on the table behind me, 12 binders, 2,350 discs, so as to eliminate the assumption that I am not legit.
His friend read somewhere and he quote “Sound Choice music is never licensed for use on any hard drive, so any Sound Choice songs on a hard drive are illegal copies”.
There was a SC change of position and a statement regarding this matter released by one of the Slep Brothers, that the use of laptop is ok as long as you have the original discs, thus the term 1 on 1.
Can someone give me the link so I can show my boss. Much appreciation!

I believe if you go to soundchoice .com there is a topic on the message board regarding this issue. Good luck

Here is a link to the Sound Choice Safe Harbor Program site, specifically the "How to Stay Legal" section. Haven't made up my mind about this actual program yet but it does explain the Sound Choice position for you to show your venue owner.

What SC has said is that they can not give permission to copy their discs to a HD as they do not have the power to do so. This applies to all MFG not just SC.
Transferring any CDG to a hard drive is technically illegal as it is called format shifting.
SC has said that they will not sue anyone that has 1:1 which means that you must have the disc for every song you have on your hard drive.

Both Sound Choice and KIAA have programs to protect you from potential lawsuits over you using laptop. Even if you get named in a suit, as long as you can prove you have every song on your hard drive on disc, they will drop the suit and you can go on your merry way. Better to get yourself ahead of the ball game and get an audit done by either Sound CHoice or the KIAA, by becoming a member than to worry aboput losing your job at your bar over this.

And just because SC won't come after you, it does not mean someone else may not in the future - and they state that.

This is the reason I will remain disc based until computers become legal.
