Have fun and look at some of the other stuff they are selling. You can get these 35,000 plus 15,000 in Spanish for $7.99.
I got a kick out of the ad for cloned websites. These are copies of the scripts for producing websites like some of the famous ones on the internet. They say they use different logos so as not to break copyright law.

Hard to believe people actually do this stuff, huh? I guess it's not all karaoke!

Sorry, but there is NOTHING that is going to help kar and midi files sound any better.

Going to upset someone.
Midi has a far worse press than it deserves.
Many film score backing tracks are exclusively Midi.
You will find Chart hits that are Midi.
Karaoke tracks that are Midi.
For a good while now excellent Midi sound modules have been available.
In the hands of a competent musician...
You wouldn't know the difference.

But I can almost guarantee that the MIDI/KAR files in question are probably not good quality considering the price.

These 36,000 songs have been done by aspiring musicians with two pennies to rub together.
It is probably been a collection from 20,ooo musicians.
There may be 1000 good if played through a good sound module.
I agree the quality of these may be questionable.
But there is good stuff out there.

Well, at least the seller is honest enough to say that he hasn't paid for the rights to any of these songs. Nice of him to include a freeware copy of KaraFun. I can't really tell what he's selling, some kind of download membership, I guess, but I want no part of it.
While good music can be played with MIDI, what goes into a .mid file is not the music, just the signals that tell the synth what to do. Until the composer has actually put it together into music, .wav, .mp3 or whatever, there is no way to predict what it will sound like.

Midi is just a signal that shows which note, instrument number and length. Pitch
changing is also supported. The quality of the output depends upon the quality
of the samples in your midi patch set. Even then, the sound is 'dry' and needs
further processing (reverb, compression, gating, limiting etc).
Much of the music you've been buying for the last 25 years is midi based, but
it sounds different when put through 10 grand synths and effects processors.

Midi is actually more popular now than it's ever been. With the advent of digital recording suites like ProTools, you can use midi to recreate an amazingly realistic sounding concert grand piano, 12 piece rock drum kit, and just about any other instrument you can think of.

Problem is, when applied to karaoke (kar and midi files), the result is usually less than satisfactory.

I've yet to hear any MIDI electric guitar tracks that sound like anything but pure, 100% sh!t.
Drums, banjo, acoustic guitar, piano, harp, plenty of good sounding MIDI instrument sounds.. but it just can't get the electric guitar.. especially not a distorted rock guitar sound.
The other thing MIDI really tends to suck at is guitar bends.
MIDI sure has improved since the days I used to put together sequences on a Mac Classic running into a Roland SC-7 Sound Canvas circa 1992.. but again.. not anything i'd want to use for anything requiring electric guitar.
But 35,000 songs for $5? Hell.. even if you found 10 songs out of the 35,000 that didn't completely suck, you'd have gotten your moneys worth.

Diafella & Cheese.
You are showing your ignorance now.
You do actually need a sound module to hear it through.

Midi is just using a recorded sample of a musical note. How good the midi depends on if that recorded sample is well recorded and done professionally and is appropriate for the track being made. A midi composition dependent only on the samples provided automatically by windows95 is probably going to be pretty poor. On the other hand the big music studios can get some very good (and appropriate) samples to work into a composition that they wish to make.
Unfortunately most "Midi" karaoke is going to be done by a person running on free software and systems far from the professional best.
Regardless of how the MIDI karaoke was made the fact that it is Midi does not change the fact that royalties should have been paid to the artists same as if the song was done with insturments. At this price I would bet no on that count.

Correct, it sounds bad because they are not using the proper tools The .kar & .mid has nothing to do...
Like Jian said, even SC uses midi and in many tracks I should say

Sure MIDI files are just the sheet music essentially. Use your Midi files on your Korg synthesizer and Yamaha drum machine, etc, and it might sound pretty good.
But on a PC using the built-in Windows MIDI engine?
