I know of 3 that purchased/leased the GEM's I am hoping they will pop in and respond to your post personally. Everyone that gets the GEM does have to sign the agreement and they are very happy with the series |

Got it about 6 or 7 months ago and am happier than a puppy with two peters. Excellent price and song selection and sound quality is great. Your not gonna find a better price for that many songs. I also have the new CB hard drive and have just recently starting implementing it into my shows. Great feature to have once I configured it correctly. I will not go online during my show to download songs PERIOD, so this hard drive was a great option for me. |

KJ Stylez wrote: Who has purchased the Gem series and survived??? Also did ou sign the disclaimer portion?? Who are you asking? From your wording it seems like you believe everyone who has a GEM set was a lawsuit/settlement. I licensed GEM Set #1, signing the standard license agreement. It has been fantastic and I have continued to thrive with the best base set in the business. |

I purchased the entire GEM series earlier this year and signed all of the required paperwork. I Love it! And NO, I didn't do it to settle anything! I just wanted to have a great series of music...With no dupes. |

HarringtonLaw wrote: It's not a lease. It's a purchased license. You don't "purchase" an item more than once. A "lease" is also a "license" that you must pay more than once to "renew." Nice try to confuse the issue and make it sound like a KJ is actually "buying" something when in fact, they are really "leasing and/or licensing" instead. |

Buy/Lease/Rent/Own/Borrow.....call it what you wish if it makes you feel better. At the end of the day I have 6000 high quality songs available for my use, for as long as I want to use them, for 1/3 the price of purchasing obsolete CD's. |

That would be 6000 high-quality "obsolete" songs. And they are becoming more and more obsolete. I would expect them to be at least one third of the price. |

So Elvis, The Beatles, and every oldie song is obsolete? Alrighty then. I guess the royalites paid to the owners of the copyrights is a figment of the imagination. But then Chip does love to obfuscate things. |

Just had some newly turned 21 oners at a show--they sang The Band and The Beatles. |

I licensed a Gem in August for my second system and requested an audit for the 2 systems. Since then I have booked that second system 2 to 3 times a week, every week. Previously this system was used for private parties, dj add ons and was out 1 or 2 times a month. I have many other brands but most shows still get 70-80% play off the Sound Choice disks, about 10% pioneer and 10% pop/top hits monthly. I have 2 sets of monthlies going back to late 1995 2 sets of dk which rarely get played anymore, 3 sets of pioneer ,+ sgb, all hits, dangerous, maestro etc. About the only brand I never purchased unless a patron wanted a song only they released was Chartbuster and I now get 2 sets of their monthly releases as they have proven more popular than THM here in my area recently. Not sorry I got the GEM and it has paid for itself in shows already. |

They are certainly not exclusive to SC and you know of a few "popular oldies" that ARE exclusive to SC???? Can you name one? And yes, ALL THE OLDIES are "obsolete".... They are called "oldies" for a reason. |

Locally the patrons still look for sc first because those of us who got into the business years ago purchased sound choice. If you don't have them people (@$%!) and go elsewhere. Whether you like their quality or not SC was the standard for 15 years so that's the version they want because that's the one they know. Just like the people that started singing karaoke 20 years ago want certain dk songs or even music maestro. Are the cuts any good? many..no. but that is the version they know. We have people ask us for pioneer because three companies in the area have been around long enough that we all used pioneer lasers in the 'old' days so people know that version. I have been to shows around the country where people sang SGB most of the night even though SC and others were available because that is what was brought to the area first. On newer music I get a lot of requests for a chartbuster cut (which I probably only own a THM) I'm starting to get them because that is currently what local hosts are buying. I have one bar that requests a lot of THM , overall very young college crowd only in that bar. |

Right off the top of my head, we were being asked for "Sink the Bismarck," "Snoopy's Christmas," "Johnny Reb" and "I Just Want to Make Love to You," by Foghat which we were too new on the scene to get from other brands or even SC without buying a Brick or Foundation. We had to wait for the SC customs to come back to get some plus then SBI started carrying some of those titles but for a while we had a hard time filling those requests. |

Here's another request that just came in--"You and Me" by Alice Cooper. Yes, Amerising and U-Best made versions but even if we wanted them, they aren't readily available anymore. But we can get it on SC....... |

Just Tracks has had "Sink The Bismarck" out for years JTG032. I like it better than the SC version which I think sounds a little thin. The Foghat song is also on DK098 but the SC version is a lot crisper sounding. "Snoopy's Christmas" is also on Top Tunes 066. While on the whole I would lean towards the SC version there are bits of the Top Tunes version that I like better, it's not a bad rendition. |

I had looked for those songs under all brands but as mentioned, we are new in the business and many of those other versions were no longer as readily available as they might have been to people who started earlier. My point was that we are still getting requests for the "obsolete" SC songs and that many of them are now pretty much exclusive to SC. And oddly enough--it is younger people who are requesting them for the most part. There are alot of young people out there who are singer/songwriters and consider themselves to be music history buffs and they will often choose Beatles or other 60s bands to sing. |
