So how in the world? A Karaoke Pirate in my market, named in the most recent Sound Choice filings has announced not one, but two new shows at very visible downtown locations. How effective is the piracy program if this happens? Meanwhile, one of my friends, a "certified" KJ with a brand new Sound Choice Gem set loses a show 3 blocks away due to lack of participation. How about a helping hand from HarringtonLaw and the boys.... |

Until they are caught of course. It would help a lot if you named some names or PM'd Harrington if not comfortable doing so publicly. |

"Named criminal" as though YOU've already made your judgment that this person is some kind of criminal? They haven't had a day in court... (yet) I'm sure you have all the evidence required to back that "criminal accusation" up right? (Just keepin' you on your toes Bazza....) |

The phrase was "many a named criminal". At no time did he say this particular company was but then Chip you do tend to twist things. I guess to keep you happy he should have said "many alleged criminals". Yes many named criminals continue to commit crimes, all you have to do is look at the stats. In this case as others until a case is finalized with either a settlement, decision, or court order, there is not much one can do. That said this could leave the venues in question open to a lawsuit, if the person is continuing operating as they did before. |

Just pulled his SC & CB and kept on doing shows - it would seem to me that SC would at least keep up with them. |

If the (alleged) pirate named in their suit has dropped their brand, what now kimosabe? And, if this person has acquired more shows without the brands, then it pretty much proves my point that you don't have to have any particular brand to succeed nor does having any brand guarantee your success. Sorry that your friend with the Gem series lost his gig, but I have to ask: What was the reason for "lack of participation?" Was this person unable to create a sustainable show? |

Chip - he has a much better show and could do fine without SC, but after you're been "coerced" into buying the GEMs, you can't really exit from that connection. Guess it does prove your point about brand not being a factor. My point is, that even after all SC's pirate fighting activity, and by the way, they've been through Raleigh, NC 3 separate times now, named someone in legal documents for not having ANY discs, there is still no advantage for the "certified" KJ. It is no different than it was before they came through here - 3 times. Pirates are still actively running shows all over the area and folks that got squeezed into buying GEM series still do not have a competitive edge in the marketplace. So how many sweeps must SC make before it truly makes a difference? I'm afraid the answer is that it will never make a difference. |

It leaves me wondering why this comment was directed at Bazza and not rickgood! That is more hippo than critical in my opinion! After all, As Timberlea pointed out, Bazza was only commenting on a generalisation in regards to alleged criminals. It is rickgood who has already made a judgement that this particular person is "some kind of criminal" ("pirate") before they have had a "day in court", not Bazza. And why shouldn't this 'alleged' pirate be allowed to continue and expand their business? After all, where is the proof that they are a so-called pirate? "They haven't had a day in court... (yet)". |

He's admitted on more than one occasion that he had no discs at all. Though that will be for SC to discover. |

Acquiring a show doesn't equate successful in my book. Can you KEEP the show is the question. I can promise the sun but if I don't deliver,,,,,, |

He was let go from the shows he had when he was named in the legal action because the venues didn't want to get caught up in the drama. He has since started 2 new shows nearby, I'm assuming without the brand he was in violation with. Point remains, the SC action is not stopping or even slowing piracy. They just crank back up somewhere else minus the SC content. How many times can they investigate Raleigh? 1000 other cities with the same situation to be investigated. |

"The mills of the gods grind exceedingly slow, but they grind exceedingly fine." Not attempting to suggest any deification, but my understanding is that if they sign a settlement agreement the either 1) agree to be audited and held to using a GEM set, or 2) agree to completely exit the business. When I go down to Florida next month I will check on the status of a show I know was sued and that the judgement was won. It will be interesting if the same guy is still doing it -- either under some other name or the same one. |

Other than pulling the brands, did he do anything else as far as the lawsuit goes or is he just ignoring it and thinks it's good by deleting the tracks? Has SC pursued the suit any further? Or did SC drop the suit? If not i'd say it probably isn't over yet. |

ignoring it didnt help any of the pirates in our area even if they did pull the brand....if I remember correctly it was posted here that the judge ordered all drives to be turned over to SC for destruction/deletion of ALL karaoke tracks that the kj could not prove they owned a manus disc for.....let them ignore away....they will end up owing anything they own or ever will own and having equipment seized. |
