I wonder if, since SC has filed another lawsuit in Arizona - along with a "co-plantiff" which is a company that is called "Piracy Recovery LLC" and:

1. is registered in Wyoming,

2. conducts business from Knoxville, TN

3. and "chartbusterkaraoke.com" catalog now will reside with a new company...,

a logical conclusion is that chartbuster has now opted for the "litigation business model" as their preferred method of income.

Startin' to look like a downright conspiracy don't it pardner? And no, the sky ain't fallin' or anything like that....

Must have been their "big secret announcement" they were hinting at....

Would that mean you will have to make more room in the garage?

What makes you think they are joining with SC? It just sounds like they are changing hands, or something.

You'll need to read a copy of the lawsuit complaint, there's really no mistaking identity or what's going on.

Perhaps HarringtonLaw can clear up the mystery since he appears to be leading the charge on this round of suits...

Well, the Knoxville TN operation might be considered a teeny bit suspicious. However, a question would arise.

If one were to speculate along Chip's line of reasoning ( and it ain't a bad line of reasoning), there are still TWO possibilities:

1) The new company would have been created to protect the new company's label while it did the dirty deeds ( which- while equally disagreeable- would have been a MUCH smarter way of doing it than Kurt did).

OR

2) The company was created by the better known principals of the original company as a new source of income.

Again, assuming that the original speculation ends up on the money...

Would like to know how this affects any current suits against Chartbuster.

I was wondering if you would have to put your CB discs in the garage like you did the SC ones if it is indeed true that CB is now suing also. In other words, will you now give up that brand to protect your venue from liability?

Chip, I wouldn't jump to conclusions here. I would say to wait it out and see what happens. I sent out an e-mail to Gretchen at CB. Let's see what she says, if anything.

Don't hold your breath.

Here's an excerpt from the complaint:
Quote:
"30. Chartbuster sells its accompaniment tracks for commercial use on
compact discs and specific other media in the same formats."

I'll leave that up to the crack investigative squads to find out, (after they finish their drinks) or I'll light a gold candle (for luck?) or bestow upon them bright, bright, brighter blessings or something.....

since you have the complaint Chip, what kind of numbers (library) are these hosts having or are they actually hitting some drive sellers? Perhaps Piracy Recovery LLC is a firm that just does that and CB hired them so they could continue getting back to making karaoke.

as for CB, if they are going to a Tricerasoft style selling of tracks digitally through downloads (not that it is anything like the HDMP  ) this really could be a whole new thing. you already could buy them through KJams, but to put all of them out there would turn the company around fast. if i had to guess, i would speculate Sunfly, Zoom, and all the others on Tricerasoft have seen massive bumps in sales by making the tracks available and affordable to everyone.

Not to mention that Sunfly/SBI/Zoom put out the freshest, most popular new songs. I end up visiting Tricerasoft almost every week now.

And some really good versions, too.

Mr. Harrington is in the house. Maybe he can shed some light on this latest development in the Karaoke world.
