Can anyone point to one single instance of a KJ in the U.S. being sued, fined, issued a cease and desist, arrested or any other type of legal action for playing legally purchased karaoke downloads in a commercial venue? If nobody can do that, they everybody needs to stop saying "it's illegal" because there is no evidence to support that. Sound Choice saying it doesn't count.

They sued a club here that used Karaoke-Channel downloads exclusively according to the KJ on their Facebook a few months before they were names. They now no longer download & own the GEM set.

But isn't Karaoke Channel SC? And, don't they say NOT FOR COMMERCIAL USE? If so, then the KJ should NOT have been using those downloads.

Karaoke Channel is Stingray.
Soundchoice suing over Stingray?
That doesn't make sense.

Don't include them. One, they are Sound Choice, two, they aren't for public use. Try again with someone like Select-a-Track or Tricerasoft. Got any lawsuits there??

Makes perfect sense. Download from Stingray ( where Kurt's brother Derek is involved) then have Kurt sue for not being 1:1 (downloads not being discs, and Derek having informed his brother of the downloads). Absolutely slimey, but if it can be used to make SC a buck, they will be on it like white on rice....

but with no Sound Choice Logo, how could they sue? the hosts did not use TKC exclusively, they had to use SC to get sued.
Derek does not own Stingray, her is their licensing guy for movies and games..

Sound Choice doesn't count - they're a litigation company now, not a karaoke company.

That will come as a big surprise to the many, many people who have bought karaoke tracks from SC lately.

Again I don't know the circumstance, the club in question kj claimed they used all Karaoke Channel downloads. They were named in SC suits. So whether they had more than just the downloads or SC can make claim on Karaoke Channel tracks - I don't know. Just know they supposedly settled, bought the GEM (as per SC website on certified kj's) and no longer use Karaoke Channel tracks or download which was their big draw.

So SC sues for using re-manufactured Sound Choice music, and creates another customer in the process. Tell, Lonnie, who is Sound Choice most interested in?? Could it be.............THEMSELVES??? They aren't fighting piracy. They are just building a client base through litigation. Gee, makes you wonder why SC is getting a bad reputation.

Well you know what, I cannot answer that, I am not Sound Choice! Again, I don't know exact circumstance behind that suit - whether they in fact were only using Karaoke Channel songs or did in fact have other manus, just know what I have seen from the KJ that would announce on their Facebook page - and that they no longer download and have the GEM.

I don't think that was EVER a secret, yes they are suing pirates (theives) for the money rightfully due to them. If they convert a pirate and have them pay, so be it, at least their SC material is on a more even keel with other KJ's.

LMAO!! You are just so in love with Sound Choice, you will never see that what they are doing is all about their own greed and that they have no interest in their customers. It's like they can do no wrong in your eyes.

And I don't think anyone can't argue on that  They'll never get my money, that's for sure, not that I don't like what they produced...but it's the lack of respect for their loyal customers that I can't stand

You aren't a loyal customer unless you either play ONLY discs, or get audited and certified. If you don't fall into any of those catagories you are fodder for lawsuits and not considered a loyal customer.

Hmmm, not even sure... From what I've been reading on them in here, I'm not sure they know the definition of "loyal customer"!!

If I were a KJ, I would have them pay me for promoting their logo either on disk or mp3+g  You guy's have the right to select the manu of your choice and they should be thankful for anyone wanting to play their tracks and not sue them just because you converted your disk to mp3+g, that's not respecting a loyal customer!!

As we see it, there are three legal options, and we're OK with all three:

1) Play your SC original discs.
2) Media-shift your SC content and get certified.
3) Don't play SC content.

As far as "respect" goes, it's a two-way street. There are rules for media-shifting. People who follow those rules get our respect. People who don't know about the rules get the opportunity to begin following them. People who choose not to follow the rules will get respect when they start following the rules.

Now, you might ask why that would be. It's really simple: When you don't follow the rules, you make it harder for us to go after the people who are outright pirates, for no discernible benefit. The net result is that we have to inconvenience the people who don't follow the rules, by suing them and requiring them to get audited as a condition for release from the suit.

I would be happy never to include in a future suit any host who has merely failed to get certified for his media-shift. Since there is no reliable way to screen out those people without compromising the anti-piracy portion of the project, except for suit-and-audit, we will continue to do suit-and-audit. If that bothers you, well, I apologize for the inconvenience, and I understand if you don't want to use the product.
