Loved both Flow Charts (Chris and Earthling). Chris... one question: What's orphaned? Is that a disc where the Manu no longer is in business (as far as we know)? |

Yes, Cue, it means no longer in business and no longer controlling their trademark. |

Sorry but I agree with Chris' flowchart because I believe in the ALL RIGHTS reserved as stated on either the disc or the jewel case. Those that are enforcing their rights are well with their rights to do so. |

Those that are enforcing their rights are well with their rights to do so. They are exercising their ability to push loyal customers into spending even more money on products they purchased outright over the years and paid a premium for in the first place. How long have you been shifting? Honestly -- how long have we been using computers for shows? 9 or 10 years? Most of us, anyway. What was Sound Choice doing back then, and all the time since up until a couple of years ago? Sleeping? No. They didn't give a crap. They still don't. They just care about how much money they can get you to pay them. If they really cared about shifting, they would have instituted a policy when all of this started, instead of waiting until we were all comfortably ensconsed in the world of computer Karaoke. This is the kind of thing you say to justify the fact that you are so dependent upon their products and upon doing computer Karaoke (who on earth would ever go back to using discs after 10 years of computers?) that you have to pay them. You do it and act like it's actually good for you. Have at it, but I don't want to have anything to do with it. (and yes, I know -- you've heard this from me before -- but I figure I'm allowed to give my argument AGAIN when all of you keep giving yours). If Sound Choice really cared about their loyal customers, they would have issued a policy from the beginning, allowed their customers to register their discs, and then they'd KNOW who had discs and who didn't. |

Oops! Sorry, ‘didn’t realize the word “member” is a heteronym that can have two meanings. I would like to paraphrase that and change the word to “p_____or d________(fill the blanks), but those words can also have two meanings. Not the proper word to use in this polite forum environment. |

I am not the naming authority, but "orphaned" seems like a good fit for those brands where the manufacturer has gone away completely and/or the trademark/copyrights aren't being enforced by anyone at all. I didn't create the term, I have seen it several times and felt it fit best. -Chris |
