Do you know how to spot one?

Post subject:  Re: Counterfeit CDG?

it depends on the brand...look for silver color on back of the disc, proper labeling, and engraved code on the inner ring,(most often these will be signs of an original except some legit brands IE: CB have used goldbacked blanks in about the last year and a half) if you know what an original looks for the majority of fakes will stand out....just insure you know all the legal label's for each manu so you don't snap real ones as fakes...like we did with Dangerous when they had a number of legit labels we were unaware of .

That doesn't hold true anymore.... PHM (Sing It Now) no longer presses their discs. They make burns, and the back is Blue-ish.

And the labels are pretty crappy looking too! At least they were, the last PHM disks I got (MP3+G) were in 2010

.... Athena, I appreciate your responses. As you can tell, the sad part is the Manufacturers keep us in the dark and confuse us with their different forms of how they make their product. Not only with burns and blurry labels, but also by going to different formats, it's confusing and frustrating. Not to mention, some of their "Authorized Dealers" have been caught in the piracy market. Yet those same "Authorized Dealers" are still selling those Manufacturers' Products. If I were a Karaoke Manufacturer and found out that one of my Authorized Dealers was pirating my IP, I would see them in court, demand they pull all of my legal IP off of their shelves and never let them sell any of my IP again.

CB & SC also had burns from manu discs as well in the last couple years.

...And at least in Chartbuster's case, some their printed labels were pretty terrible quality. Almost like they needed to clean the jets on their printer.

I never saw that, however the last few months I recieved (auto shipped direct from CB) were plain black & white labels with some basic logos on them in basic cardboard sleeves.

I had quite a few Essentials Plus Packs purchased directly from Chartbuster over the last year or so that had terrible printing. Never saw any plain black and white labels.

...I have some black and white PHM discs that came directly from Stellar. Luckily they're still in business and have my records and I have receipts. However, you never know when that might change in the future.

...But what about Chartbuster? I don't have any black and white labels but what if a KJ decides to get out of the business and or just wants to sell those black and white label discs (I'm assuming they're in-house-burns). How do you convince the potential buyer/s that they're factory originals? ...Just asking?

I'll show the receipts I got with them. I save all karaoke disc purchase receipts.

...I do hope it's enough because I believe many of us are in the same boat.

I don't.... mainly because I was never in this as a business.

If I were to decide to go out of business and sell I guess I would include the audit reports for those discs as of the last audit date and receipts for the newest ones. I don't think this would work for smaller sales however. When I think of all the discs I snapped in half due to suspected counterfeits I get a bit ill. :puke:

Apparently, there's no such thing as a "legit brand" anymore.
Just sayin'

Sounds like there's going to be quite a bit of disc-snapping going on in the next little while. That was a huge list of songs from sc and cab.
