Please excuse my ignorance on this issue and I apologize in advance if this has already been posted but my question is this.
If you buy or own cdg's from either sound choice or CB are you able to rip it to your computer store away the discs and play a show using those ripped tracks. Thanks everyone.

The answer is, perhaps..
The vendors often want to verify your one to one status..
You can do a search on media shift..
<------------- Over there, near the top.. (Search)

That's the main reason for this section of the forum. There are many differences of opinion expressed here.. Some would choose to sue you over their opinion. Pick a thread, any thread...

The Sound Choice policy on media shifting their product is on their website. They require permission/audit/fee.
Chartbuster recently was taken over by Digitrax and they haven't come out with anything official yet. You will have to wait and see on that one.

the short answer is yes and no. if you want to shift SC you must pay the $150.00 fee and do the audit. Everyone else is ok with shifting for no fee, just stay 1:1.

i downloaded a copy of the lawsuit papers when they sued karaoke candy store.
in those papers wrote by sound choice lawyers it specifically says that they give permission to media shift if you keep a 1:1 ratio.....
now how can they state that in writing to the court, then go back on what their attorney wrote for them and then say you have to do an audit...
i can produce the paper work and the section that specifically states that.

Yeah...with the wind....or the whim. Yup. I have to accept a new policy from either iTunes, Facebook, Twitter a bank account or credit card website at least once a month. It's the way of the world today.

Being compliant is not the same as being legal.
Manufacturers' changes after the fact ( in other words, AFTER a purchase has been made) mean nothing, as no request for acceptance was required or or agreed to at the time of sale, and no new laws enacted.
If one decides to comply (bend to the will of) the manufacturers, that is strictly one's choice. There is no legal compulsion to do so.

At least at this point in time, policies CAN change! this is true, however the only two that decided to change policy have gone out of business or near to it and taken a PR beating that will take a lot more than kissing babies to repair. i may be wrong, but i don't see the other companies trying to follow the lemmings off the cliff.

Actually, it doesn't say "permission"--it says "tolerance." And the 1:1 ratio is a necessary condition, but not a sufficient condition. mightywiz wrote: now how can they state that in writing to the court, then go back on what their attorney wrote for them and then say you have to do an audit...
i can produce the paper work and the section that specifically states that. Since the defendant in that case did not maintain 1:1 correspondence, it was not necessary to discuss whether an audit had been conducted.

Yeah...with the wind....or the whim. Yup. I have to accept a new policy from either iTunes, Facebook, Twitter a bank account or credit card website at least once a month. It's the way of the world today. Yes, but here are a few differences: 1. You don't pay for Facebook or Twitter; you request to use their service, you don't pay them for the privilege, and 2. I-Tunes doesn't change the way you can use their product AFTER you purchase it. 3. If the bank changes their fees, you can opt to withdraw your money and use it somewhere else. In this case, Sound Choice has changed their policy and the only other option you have is not to use their product at all. 4. If you use a credit card, you can stop using it and use another. You're not "out" anything. None of these analogies hold water. Not a one. Show me one where you purchase a product and then have to start paying more later in order to keep using it and I'll agree that it's a good analogy (oh, and don't forget the part where they can inspect you product periodically, as well). Oh - and you didn't agree to any of this when you actually bought the product. This is kind of like Charmin selling me toilet paper with no constraints and then after I buy it, maybe into my third roll, I'm told I can only wipe sideways and I have to pay an additional $5 surcharge to use each additional square it. Oh, and they can come in and audit my use and make sure I'm using it under the new rules.

So there is no forced loss on this as you suggest. -Chris
