Apparently the "Cloud" is ready to precipitate--er, participate, in the "LEGAL" karaoke supply business...interesting program to say the least. Nothing noted about the other manus' (SC, etc.) participation as of yet, but it appears PCDJ Karaoki is the only program that can be used "at this time'. Not sure if it can be assumed that the program license has to be purchased first or not, OR if it might be included in the monthly fee. I am sure the forum participants would welcome any additional info that is acquired from DT...

Not that i'm going the Cloud way anyway, but if I would be forced to use PCDJ, that's a deal breaker to begin with.

ohhhh, so they have 8000 songs in their library...

i already have over 18,000 unique songs in my library.

tell me how this helps me.......

and at .44 cents a song from allstarcustom karaoke, and i get to keep them, i think their math is a lot off....

no way in hell am i gonna pay $199 or $99 ( if i pay a full year up front) for 8000 songs i already have. and when the subscription is up your songs expire and don't work anymore.....

i hope no one does this.....

It's not for someone that already has an extensive library, it's for those that do not.

Sounds like a ton of new kjs will be able to legally enter the business now. The barrier to entry just got dropped to the floor.

now the kjs and kjathena
who work in bars
watch some of your jobs start going away when the bars start firing you
when they find out they can have more music then you for 200.00 A MONTH make a manger run the show for 4 hours who is already on the payroll

they now went from 800.00 a month to 200.00
LOL
its not the pirates that got you
but the manufacture and cloud who are raining on your )( NOW

Ill bet that in 3-6 months the same cheer leaders
will start crying about the cloud when you start losing work to cloud bars or kjs wee see

I think it just balanced the level of playing field (really?). The market will be saturated by legal kj’s and karaoke will be more competitive than ever. Survival of the fittest & the best. I’ll say experienced seasoned kj’s will squash the rookies until they earn their stripes like we did. Experience vs. Youth (wait, I’m old, so I’ll lost) vs. inexperience. Let the games begin!

I looked at their page, and wow.
It's one of the worst thought out marketing pieces I have ever seen!
Once again a manufacturer has decided the best way to market to KJs is to accuse us all of being pirates.
It's purpose is obviously meant to be a settlement option for those who can not pay the lump sum.
8000 songs? How many duplicates I wonder?

My favorite lines from the site:
Quote:
thanks to convoluted copyright and trademark laws,
And the convoluted application of those laws by those who wish to market this stuff through lawsuits.
Quote:
Piracy has driven down the value of a show night. Venue owners just assume you stole your library and have zero investment in your music, and if you price your library anywhere close to what it’s worth, there’s a pirate in your town with zero investment that the venue owner can hire for less. Honest KJ’s can no longer earn a living wage on their shows.
Really? Venue owners assume this?

Quote:
You only pay about one penny per song for high-quality MP3+G's
What if venue owners assume you only pay a penney per song? Yep, that will drive up the pay for your show by 60 cents.

Hmmm... they mention the word legal a dozen times, yet they are broadcasting content from UK manufacturers that we have been told repeatedly here can't be legal.

The entire page seems to have been written by someone with a manic preoccupation with piracy. This would explain why they contradict their own main selling points throughout.

This is the line that just cracks me up:

Notice that they don't state that the suits were unjustified?... Excuuusse Me?

But if U.S. karaoke manufacturers weren't pirating/infringing the content in the first place, there would be NO infringement suits right?..... because they wouldn't be infringing in the first place...

That in itself is a pretty good admission that the FIRST to pirate in this industry in an amount large enough to cause a lawsuit, were the manufacturers. Who made a living for years selling unlicensed material to KJ's under false pretenses.... Or shall we simply call it "stealing from publishers?"

But they want to position themselves as some sort of "guardian of the industry?"

The only way I see it as a good thing for new hosts, is they won't be necessarily lowballing their prices if they get on board because they WILL need to pay these monthly to keep the selection. Although you never know and they still may play for peanuts.

This caught my attention as well. If they (the UK manus tracks) can be played in US shows through Digitrax - why then can we not buy directly from these manus and play them in our shows as well? I assuming of course it again would have to do with the clubs needing to pay their PRO fees in order to play those tracks to begin with. All the manus on there are UK based except Digitrax/Chartbuster and the defunct DK label (not sure who they contacted for permission on these). Now granted, they MAY possibly have went to each publisher and negotiated the rights for each track - could be why they are starting with a dramtically smaller library than they originally advertised - again, speculation.

You can. I received an email from Sunfly just yesterday that says - in part:
Quote:
. . .
All tracks bought via http://www.sunflykaraoke.com/ are reported to the MCPS/PRS and appropriate royalties paid.
. . .

Kind regards,
Siobhan.

So, how is this any different than the gem series?

Just wondering--they say 8000 songs and they mention the D.K. brand.
Are they buying that or is that a pirate copy?

As you have been repeatedly informed, the GEM series discs were imported into the US at a time when the UK licenses did not exclude the US. Now those licenses do exclude the US.

Interesting note: in one of the promos on the karaokecloudpro.com site they mention acquiring the Chartbuster catalog "through public sale", which is a bit of a different story than has been presented on this forum in recent history...

i thought it was all of us shifting to computer that reduced them to shadows of their former selves, not their own actions :o

Then please spell it out in plain English right here so I can forward it directly on to Sunfly that you are classifying their product -- which they claim is perfectly legal for me to use in the United States AND in a commercial setting -- ILLEGAL.

This ridiculous logic of yours by default, makes Sunfly just as illegal to offer on the "cloud" for the very same reasons you state above.

Sorry, but you can't have it both ways.
