Maybe if Sound Choice actually took some people to court and made them pay through their noses for selling these drives or buying these drives; some people might actually be afraid of the paper tiger. But then again. If they took some people to court and lost their cases; the jig would be up, wouldn't it? That's why no one is afraid any more. It's all a scam to get people to pay out of fear and since no one ever gets saddled with a major judgement, people are willing to take their chances. |

I've said this a few times before......it's just like drugs...they arrest the users, but don't seem to be able to do much about the dealers...... |

With Slep\Harrington this is all about money and that is why they are a part of the problem instead of being a part of the solution. These drive sellers should be sought after in a criminal investigation and prosecuted in kind. Their records would show who purchased the drives which would then provide proper probable cause to investigate those "customers". Throw some people's butts in jail and this problem would end up being fairly self contained and shrinking. But the issue then is how does Sound Choice generate money? Ex-customers like me aren't buying their products even if they hadn't ruined their reputation with highly questionable methods. We aren't buying their products because it simply isn't cost effective and it is too much of a hassle to deal with discs. I have 3 or 4 copies of Sound Choice's "Don't Stop Believing". How many discs do I have to buy with other songs on it that also has that song on it until it's enough to make me want to scream and find a better way. As my library size increased, the value of each $20-$23 dollar CD decreased as there were fewer and fewer songs per CD that were attractive. Now, you have to buy the GEM at 6000? That's going the wrong direction!! Even if they were a viable supplier, I am not buying "Don't Stop Believing" again and they have no clue that their current retail model is all but defunct. So the only way for them to gain sales that I see is to ensure they have people they can force into settlements with. It's easy to see that clearing out the drive sellers and buyers is not conducive to that end. Plus, there is no money to be made by Sound Choice when a seller, like the ex-ball player, gets caught and goes to jail. So, yes, it really is about money.. Money for Sound Choice. |

While it is true that getting rid of the hard drive suppliers would be cutting of the snake at the head, then what? Mr. Boo is right it is all about the money. If the supply of hard drives dries up and there are no more pirates, who would SC have to sue, and try and settle with? Have a blessed day. |

And why is any business in business? To make a profit. Just because a few are boycotting doesn't mean the majority are. If you want criminal prosecutions, call the FBI since it is their jurisdiction. They don't usually advertise ongoing investigations like this. But then again they may be investigating. I don't know. |

Timberlea I will say with some confidence that there are more hosts and venues boycotting SC than there are certified hosts. While the FBI maybe going after the hard drive sellers, it's cinch they are not bothering with the average karaoke host. Have a blessed day. |

Maybe it's because the FBI doesn't involve itself in civil matters. |

I am not "boycotting" Sound Choice. I probably sing some Sound Choice tracks almost every day. I simply do not play any songs in shows any longer so I am happy as a lark with my Sound Choice files. I stopped buying them for reasons that have zero to do with piracy. There is a huge difference there. There are probably more than a few that are boycotting them. But there are probably a massive amount of people like me that wouldn't be buying them even if they weren't doing all these cheap suits because the library size makes them cost inefficient. That's the point here... I still argue they've lost far more customers from a failure to modernize than from pirates. I would go as far as to say that Sound Choice would have closed up long ago if they continued with the same disc model and there were no drive sellers. I would be a happy Sound Choice customer today if: They provided a single file purchase process. They weren't trying to shake every disc based KJ for even more money in one way or another. |

timberlea wrote: Maybe it's because the FBI doesn't involve itself in civil matters. The reason it's a civil matter is because the FBI doesn't think on the scale of criminal acts it is a top priority or they would involve themselves, and SC would not have to go the civil suit route. Have a blessed day. |

My OP is to a Craigslist ad selling a hard drive with karaoke music. No manufacturers are identified. So how did this become yet another "Beat Up on Sound Choice" thread? Oh......yeah.......<pointing at the usual suspects> -Chris |

Oh......yeah.......<pointing at the usual suspects> -Chris The thread is supposed to stimulate discussion, the reason SC is always mentioned is because that the way they really want it. Like Oscar Wilde once said "The only thing worse than people talking about you is not talking about you". Why do you think James keeps coming on, to give the impression that they are really doing something meaningful about the problem of piracy, and to keep SC in the public eye. Have a blessed day. |

I googled the phone # on the ad you posted Chris and came up with a pic of DJ Wally on another craigslist ad! http://spacecoast.craigslist.org/evs/3751290163.html Maybe SC will take note since their litigation is really active in Florida! |

The thread is supposed to stimulate a discussion around the topic posted - Craigslist Karaoke Hard Drive Sellers Bruce chose to make it about Sound Choice for no apparent reason other than his dislike for Sound Choice. He could just as easily have said - Maybe if (insert ANY active karaoke manufacturer that cared about their intellectual property) actually took some people to court and made them pay through their noses for selling these drives or buying these drives; some people might actually be afraid of the paper tiger -Chris |

It's interesting that local authorities bust folks at the flea market on a regular basis for selling counterfeit perfume, cologne, etc. but nobody seems to be interested in hard drive sellers. You'd think one of the karaoke manufacturers would buy one of the drives and then go after the guy for theft of their property. I don't care which one does it, just somebody do it. On the other hand, the torrent sites still exist and will continue to exist and they are free, so it can't be stopped or even slowed down it appears. I could have the entire SC or CB offerings downloaded in about a day or two. Instant business plan. |
