Even though we have the essentials 1 through 9 and tons of chartbuster disks--when the deal came up for 12000 songs for 2k it seemed like a great deal for maybe another setup or just having them already mp3+g format.Upon looking at the certificate it says it is only good for 1 year.Which is long over.What now or are we just S.O.L.Please help or explain.

8) That is a good question since even the CB certified hosts certificates were only good for one year. I would have to guess that all CB certification came with a time limit of one year and the plan was for a yearly renewal, which of course would have required an audit and fees. There has been much talk of PR picking up the legal process dropped by the collapse of CB, it would stand to reason they would also have to certify whatever CB material is out here in the market. As of this date I have not found any evidence that PR has resumed auditing and certification of CB material. This seems strange since this would be an effective way for PR to generate income for itself, and PR is not in the production end of the karaoke business. The person to answer your question would be James since he says he represents PR on a joint case in Arizona and must be in contact with the legal firm that also represents PR.

Dave - I wouldn't consider formerly CB Certified hosts as S.O.L.. We still own the content, we just don't have an active certification. I still print mine in my song books to demonstrate that I went through the process. I have spoken to Gretchen about future certification plans from Digitrax and she has assured me they are working on something. I think we just have to be patient as this is somewhat of a balancing act between having a reasonable process for the hosts and an effective policy for Digitrax.

Lone - You just can't help but speculate and be negative can you? Out of curiosity, do you plan on leaving the karaoke forums when you retire in October? Or will we be forced to endure an ever increasing amount of your diatribe because you will have more time on your hands? I would apologize for sounding rude, but you don't seem to be apologetic for anything you say here when it is plainly obvious that you have very little that is either relevant or even true to say. Have A Fabricated And Negative Day.....

8) I'm mainly retiring due to health reasons, old age and the fact the person I have teamed with for years wants to quit also Chris. I don't see how stating simple fact is Fabricated or Negative. The simple truth is the simple truth, PR has done practically nothing since the collapse of CB. I'm told by the certified crowd that they are going to get serious and I have been waiting over a year for that to happen. Pretty soon it will be a moot question since as far as I'm concerned it will make no difference. I'm more concerned about PR since I do have quite a large segment of my library in CB material. You have CB certification aren't even curious if you need to get permission from PR to use the material? James is the only person that might have a line on what PR is doing, since from what I can tell the last thing they did was the joint suit with SC they filed. Other certified hosts say they know what they're doing but can't release any details, what does that tell you? If you know any more than this maybe you should tell the rest of us. It leaves a big hole and quite a few unanswered questions like the one that started this thread. Could you please explain to me Chris how Gretchen could have any thing to do with CB certification? Isn't she working on Cloud and the new DT product? Any plans for future CB certification would have to come from PR wouldn't it, since they are concerned with the protection of the CB trademark? I don't think that is quite accurate. James said that he (as SC's legal representative) was working on one case that is/was a joint lawsuit with SC and PR. That doesn't mean that he would know what their future/upcoming plans are for a Certification Program for KJs. That being said, maybe James could provide anyone that needs to know, a way to contact PR directly to ask their questions about a Certification Program.

And, she also takes our feedback and suggestions, and relays it back to her bosses. I, for one, do not feel SOL because I am pretty sure they will accept the watermark as proof of original ownership because they have to have access to the records that CB had for the media pro. I only have one song, For The Kids by John Rich, that came off of a disc, the rest are Media Pro selections. I have no plans to buy anymore CB songs which was the agreement I had the first time I went through the re-certification process with Paula.

8) Well cue why the delay in setting up some kind of auditing program by someone? Digitrax is only going to be producing a portion of the CB library not the entire collection from what I gather. If anything could be certified wouldn't it be only what could be currently licensed? I'm sure that Gretchen could set up an audit system for the new Digitrax product since that will be produced under the DT logo, right? To me it makes little sense for PR to delay in starting an auditing system since they could charge fees for it and also use it as a way to divide the hosts into two groups, the certifiable, and the non-certifiable. That way at least they would know whom to proceed against in their own legal process suits. Which I'm told will be resumed at some future unknown date. The longer PR delays the closer the time comes when CB becomes abandon ware itself. What would be the logical reason for PR not to proceed? Have a blessed day.

I'm an ODB KJ (and not even doing any shows at present (for reasons that only relate to my regular full-time job)). I'm not a businessman, and I am not employed by PR or DT, so frankly, I don't care.

As for you, why are you so strongly concerned with this? Didn't you just recently post?:

8) Sorry about the double post cue I'm not very good with the computer, I to am disc based. It is true I'm not going to be running an on going business after OCT 31st. It would be nice if once in awhile I did some shows to raise money for charities I support, I would not want these non-profits sued by PR for displaying the CB logo. Have a blessed day.

He asked why PR is taking so long to get the ball rolling, and why haven't they done anything yet with regard to Certifications. These are questions that are related to the business operations of PR. Now why would any of us know the answers to questions like that when we don't work for PR.

Since The Lone Ranger has stated he is Disc Based, he has no need to be be concerned about becoming Certified. But, as for questions getting answered, if you go back a few posts, you will notice that I OFFERED AN ANSWER to his questions (in my post at 4:56 PM on 6/09), by directing him to the people who could answer them. There was no sarcasm or belittlement in those answers. If there was, I suggest that you show it to me so that I can either apologize or explain.

Unless beginning with "Well Cue" means something else, I interpreted that question to be directed at ME. To answer that question I would have to speculate, SINCE I DO NOT work for PR or DT.


As for my "annoyances, and whiny dispositions (double post- edit post)"... I have been quiet for about 1 year with regard to the way some people choose to quote entire texts and then some (I won't go into that any further). This was totally different, and I felt it was annoying enough to say something about it (and it looks like at least 2 people here agreed with me on this).

8) I didn't mean for this to get into a big controversy it seems like a pretty straightforward situation. I have CB material even though I'm disc based I use my back up discs not my originals for the show. According to James if you make a copy of the original and use it that is also shifting without permission. I have been waiting patiently for over a year now for information on how to obtain permission, nobody seems to know or care. That is the reason for the speculation. When there are no answers we speculate on why there are no answers. If you are running a business and using a product you want to make sure everything is kosher not only for you but the venues you work for. If PR is responsible for protecting the CB trademark then they should furnish some way to enable the host to be able to use the product they purchase without undue concern. Is that so unreasonable?

No, that is not an unreasonable request. When you ask a questions such as, "Does anybody know if such and such (fill in name here) has a Certification program in place?", or "Does anybody know when there will be such a program?", you may get a few answers. Since you are specifically referring to PR and DT, until they set up such a program, you really shouldn't have anything to be worried about. I sincerely doubt that PR or DT are going to come out tomorrow and all of a sudden start Naming/Suing all of the KJs they know to have Media-Shifted without their permission in a bunch of Lawsuits. But, when you start asking "Why haven't they started a Certification Program?", well... how would we know? Why is a question that can only be answered by the actual business. "Why" is a question you need to direct at the source. That cuts out the need to speculate.

8) From what I'm able to find out timberlea there is currently no auditing system in place. Without the ability for an audit exactly how would you be able to obtain permission? You simply can't walk up and ask PR for approval, how would they verify your library, see that's the rub. I have been told that an auditing system is on the drawing board, but nothing solid has emerged. I don't understand how it is in PR's interest to drag their feet on the implementation of such an auditing system. It would seem to be the logical first step in setting up their own legal process. There is also the question as to what they actually could audit since much of the CB library is no longer currently licensed. DT only renewed licensing on a portion of the CB library, not the whole thing. In fact the only thing I can find concerning who might even be remotely handling PR's affairs is the correspondent listed on the original trademark filing on behalf of the then viable CB.

This whole question seems rather fruitless as far as I'm concerned I have been operating all these years without requiring any type of permission, once the product was sold to me. This whole idea of permission is something new that has only come about in the last few years. Without a current system for auditing in place it is not possible to get permission even if I knew where to apply for permission. When I asked James how PR got the rights to the CB trademark, I was told "it was none of my business". This from somebody who is supposed to be by his own admission representing PR. With just a few months left actively hosting in the industry I guess it's no big deal. For the person who is still working and wants an answer to CB certification it would seem that PR should make some information available to all. Why all the secrecy, this is not the plans to the A bomb? Have a blessed day.

8) Just whom am I supposed to call timberlea there is no current auditing system for the CB product? Even if there was a system in place they could only certify part of the CB library the rest is unlicensed. All there seems to be is an old address, it is not even sure if these lawyers are still representing CB, their clients interest died with CB. I would be fully retired probably before I could even get an audit or permission, since no auditing system is currently in place and working. To set up such a system you would have to hire auditors and train them to do the audits, wouldn't you? Have a blessed day.
