Hi all:
Last week I purchased a supposedly new-in-package copy of a Pop Hits Monthly Adult Contemporary Hits disc from March of 2006 because my own personal interest in a particular song on that disc. I paid approximately standard retail price for it.
It was listed on Amazon, but sold through another karaoke vendor (name omitted right now) and it was shipped promptly.
I received it yesterday.
Upon opening the package, I was immediately taken aback by the packaging, and the disc itself. Over the years I have purchased several dozen PHM discs direct from either Stellar themselves or karaoke suppliers and this one looked unlike any other I own.
First off, the disc was an off color... much like a lightscribe disc I believe, and the non-labeled side was not the typical silver color you would expect from a commercial CD+G... more like a CDR in my opinion... The fonts on the labeled side seemed way off from a typical PHM disc from that era. The labeled side did not appear painted on like all the other PHM discs I have from that era... it was strange.
The jewel case inserts are also suspect... The front insert is printed on glossy photo paper... and the back and sides piece looks like it was printed on an inkjet from folded stock...
Is it really possible that this vendor is selling counterfeit discs on Amazon? What should my course of action be at this point? I feel like I've been sold a useless item, and I don't want to put it in my system if it's counterfeit...

Step one is to contact Pop Hits Monthly. I am sure an email to them with a pic of the discs and the sellers name will get you a quick response and then you will know for sure.

Also, PHM has not done very many re-issues where they have changed the printing or packaging on disc. If you want to post a pick or the DiscID, some of the folks here can compare with/post what they have.

I know that in 2006, they changed their packaging and look from a black background to an orange and white splotched background, but they were issued on pressed discs. As far as I know, PHM did not start issuing burns of CDRs until 2010 (and at that point, they were going under the name of Sing It Now). I would definitely follow Bazza's advice.

Contacted PHM and they had me mail them the suspect CD+G along with the mailing label it came in which has the business address from where it was shipped.
They will be sending me a replacement when it arrives to them.

Received a replacement disc from PHM... it is very different from the one I sent them, and certainly a pressed CD... Wonder if they are going after the retailer?
