Feds pull Google Glass user from theater for suspected piracy

"....copyright-related crimes like movie piracy now fall under the jurisdiction of the DHS."

It would appear that the Department of Homeland Security is who we should be reporting karaoke piracy to. Can't wait for them to start yanking hosts and singers out of bars.

Shouldn't they really focus there efforts on our safety and not on theft of IP. Now if they go after theft of items of national security that would be a different story. I don't think the illegal recording of a movie is ever going to threaten our national security.

mrmarog, it is a part of their mandate along with a hockey sock full of other responsibility. Have you looked at their home page as to their duties and responsibilities? It is quite exhaustive.

Have your ever been to an Asian metropolis? Bootleg music and movie stands litter the streets. It's a real and present threat

Just like the ACA (affordable car act) contains volumes of non-health care laws. That was the only to get it passed

another example of a mere drop in the bucket. The new Jack Ryan movie is available on sharing sites already. There are more than just a hndful of people out there making bootleg copies of movies. Catching ONE guy with a recorder isn't going to do a damn bit of good....and that is with a multi BILLION dollar film industry trying to stop it. Do you really think that the karaoke industry can do a better job of fighting piracy than the major movie studios?

HELLOOOOOOOO!

I read this on AOL today: It's beginning to look like a karaoke investigation more and more. LOL

According to a report in the Columbus Dispatch by reporter Allison Manning, the 35-year-old Glass-wearer was watching Jack Ryan when someone with a badge sat down next to him and asked him to come outside. In the lobby, he was met by additional agents who questioned him for hours. It wasn’t until they brought in a laptop and USB cable to connect the Glass to a PC that they were finally convinced he wasn’t recording the movie.

“About an hour into the movie, a guy comes near my seat, shoves a badge that had some sort of a shield on it, yanks the Google Glass off my face and says “follow me outside immediately,” he told The Gadgeteer. “It was quite embarrassing and outside of the theater there were about 5-10 cops and mall cops.” The agents accused him of illegally taping the movie with his Glass even though it was off
