Here is their disclaimer -

Legality: This material is being offered for conveyance and conversion convenience only. Be sure to obey all laws and rules regarding performing karaoke shows. You can have digital music on a hard drive, Karaoke Producers insist you buy the original materials before doing karaoke shows. Never pirate materials and pay proper royalties. ...This looks like the same guy they've been chasing for years and NOTHING happens... so to add salt to an open womb, making $50.00-$75.00 per HD, it's No Wonder this guy continues to sale them.

...and we get laughed at by his pirate KJ customers who buy from him.

...Like I've said for years now, unless the copyrights holders, KJs, karaoke manufacturers and venues come together, nothing will happen. The same small percentage of legal hosts, that purchase tracks legally, will be the ones holding supporting the industry for others to abuse. Kind of like the way the U.S.A. operates now.

Ah yes, the old "I'm just providing a conversion service" scam.

Well I guess that means HE has the original discs for all 250,000 songs...right?

Nobody could ever agree on what to do. That's why this still happens. A lot of you were shills for the manu's, and let's face it, the manu's had the wrong strategy from the start. When laws need to be changed, you take it to your local political representative, you bring a lot of money and signatures.

Until we knock this off, we're doomed. There won't be any US manu's left. Karaoke needs to be afforded the same copyright protection that is given by the licensing agencies. SC/CB/STLR need to get their cut from ASCAP/BMI/SESAC, and let those agencies go after the unlicensed. This won't happen without an act from congress.

Well, at least you have rid the karaoke Forums of these hard drive sellers. But the karaoke Bars are full of them. How's that working out for your bottom lines?

If only there was some entity that wanted to shut these sellers down. Maybe buying a drive or two as evidence of commercial use (resale) of trademarked and copyrighted material without paying the rights holders for those licenses. Perhaps some entity that is specifically in the business of suing over karaoke piracy, I would find this a hard case to lose.

If you wanted to tie up some of your own money and lots of your own time, I bet you could win an "unfair practices" lawsuit against this guy. You would have to be in his actual market, and have to come up with some compelling MATH of how much $$$ his activity has personally caused you.

Just a vague "he hurts the whole industry" isn't going to cut it for a civil suit.

8) The fact is there is a never ending supply of illegal HD material constantly available if a customer wants to purchase it. Despite efforts to control and stop this illegal trade it still continues. For the most part private libraries are not being pursued by law enforcement because they would have to lock up at least 50% of the public at large. If you cannot stop the source of the supply the illegal trade will continue, that is just one of the facts of life. Just like the war on illegal drugs has been lost so has this war on trying to stop illegal hard drives. The solution is to regulate it like they have decided to do with some recreational drugs. Until we devise some system to deal with this problem, the only thing the average commercial host can do is focus on his own show and try to make it the best he or she can.

The solution is fairly simple, in my opinion. Do EXACTLY what the music industry has done. Offer your product in an affordable manner, in the format that people want.

Itunes makes hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars, so they must be doing something right.

some companies seem either unwilling or unable to do this, altho I don't really understandwhy.

that is exactly what Digitrax, All Star, Sunfly, Zoom, Mr Entertainer, SBI, DK, Priddis, Tropical Zone, Music Factory, Stagestars are doing and it does seem to be working.

And provide an API that any software maker can access. 163 songs bought on one of my systems in just the last 2 weeks alone.

In computer programming, an application programming interface ( API) specifies how some software components should interact with each other
