So DMX karaoke just stated in the New Release forum that all music on the US 'no fly list' from ANY karaoke manu in the UK is no longer going to be available in the UK either (to US or UK) after July 1st - at least for download and must be removed from their catalogs. Custom CDG is supposedly not affected at this time. Definitely going to put a dent in the way many of us buy now days on demand! Discuss!

wouldnt surprise me in the least.
But we will see what happens. Maybe the fact that I was forced to get out of karaoke is a good thing..
yet one more reason why i like to purchase all of my downloads, alltho it won't make one lick of difference for brand new songs by popular artists.

If being on a "no fly list" is what the artist or publisher wants, I say bless all morons.
It's my belief that karaoke helps new artists get exposure, keeps current artists in view, and may well help maintain the popularity of artists who are fading or who have faded- and a help for any comeback attempt.
Not neccesarily a HUGE help, but a help- not a detriment.
If someone does not wish to utilize an additional marketing tool, they deserve to fade. It is my experience that although there has been an increase in singers requesting more current songs, the majority still seem to request those that they are more familiar with- hence, a bit older. I think it will be at least 1-3 years from the date above before we feel any REAL impact from the move.
I feel more pressure regarding procuring OLDER songs that I may not have yet, because THOSE sources are already drying up in a big way.

One has to wonder if any of the other non-US companies like Tri or KV got the same notice. If they follow suit then we will feel it sooner than later.
Another problem I see coming is trying to explain to singers why it is difficult and probably more expensive to get a certain song when "everyone else has it." That counts for old ones, too.

Reading a thread in the FB Jolt forum, ALL UK manus - SBI, Sunfly, Zoom, etc are to pull all songs from no fly list.

This should then spur a "get 'em while you can" frenzy of sales (or illegal downloads),

Tri is Canadian and Canada and the US have reciprocal agreements. KV, I believe is France, so it's up to France what they will or will not do.

Tri is Canadian but has been reselling UK products the UK companies are pulling the material from all resellers. KV has not yet been notified to pull any tracks

Correct me if I am wrong, but the "no fly" list is relatively small compared to the overall number of artists that are out there? And very small compared to the available karaoke music that is already available to use.
I still believe that the rights holders have some other monetization scheme they are working on. They are not going to let that money simply disappear.
Regardless, this is going to have little to no impact on me other than it will reduce my monthly expenditure on new music (and actually improve my bottom line in the short term).
One additional side effect though....there has already been a marked increase in the prices of Sound Choice music on eBay. Even more so than when they first rolled out lawsuits. Expect after market Sound Choice discs to command a substantially higher premium than they do already.

The list may be small but it has a lot of the most popular karaoke artists on it.

We have access to the music NOW. Buy it NOW. If the rights holders stupidly decide to not release karaoke music for these artists AT ALL, then new hosts coming along will not be able to get their hands on it without buying it in the after market (limited supply) or through piracy. But again, I don't see the rights holders pulling it and then sitting on it forever. Copyrights = $$$.

I guess those on the "No Fly" list LIKE piracy. Many KJs, if they are unable to BUY the music they want, will get it somehow. I heard about this, the day before yesterday. I had put in some requests to Zoom for some Led Zeppelin songs and they hit me back with the fact that they have to drop all Led Zeppelin because of this nonsense.

BigJer wrote: bazinga wrote: Where can I find this "No Fly List?" http://www.karaokecloud.info/And that is only touching the tip of the iceberg! Many of these have supposedly been off limits for years! Funny thing about the Foo Fighter stuff though, Dave Grohl has been KNOWN to go out and karaoke, yet doesn't want his stuff out for karaoke? Kind of BS!

That may be out of Grohl's control, if he doesn't own the rights.

It seemed ironic to me that Jimmy Buffett and Toby Keith put out "Too Drunk To Karaoke" when they are famous no-flyers also.

Maybe because they think people are too drunk to karaoke?

Yes, I know that Shawn Camp wrote it and sang it first but it seemed funny that they would sing a song about karaoke when they don't seem to like it--although their video did put me off a bit as compared to the way Shawn Camp sings it which is more in fun.
