Well, I picked # 2. Effective immediately I am bringing all my sc discs (1,440 sc ONLY) to my gig, play them to a cd player – 'till the dust settles so to speak.

Brian, James also said that they're starting the certification again. Wouldn't it be a lot easier to have the audit, get certified and be done with it. And you won't have one more thing to lug around with you.

No, sorry, that's not correct.

The initial certification is $150 per system. Once certified, if you later choose to have a maintenance audit, the fee is $100/system. The reason to do so would be to update your last audited date, which we'll show on the website, but it's entirely optional. If you choose not to, there is no annual fee.

So, Mr Harrington is this program open under the same terms to everyone?

so any word on when the audits will be open again? I certainly don't want to miss my oportunity this time around, and I do have to make sure that i can pay for it.

Then I apologize for my misinformation. You originally stated somewhere, that it would cost $150 for a new Certification per rig, and that this would only be good for one year. After that, you had to renew your certification at the cost of $100 per rig. I must have missed it somewhere (probably mentioned in the deleted topic thread), where you changed this to reflect that $100 fee is now just for an annual maintenance (Audit) and to change your date of Certification to a more current date.

So, am I correct in reading this (now), that once a KJ gets Certified (one who wasn't prior to Phoenix coming into play), that the certification does not expire (as compared to your prior offer, where you were listed for 1 year, and then had to renew (for $100) for the next year (and so on and so on and so on)?

I'm looking at the Zoom mp3+gs on dvd as a way to phase my SC out snd reduce how many discs I have to carry and how many times I have to load the player, but I'd say you have a lot more SC than me.

Alan, you're characterization of the new program as "have the audit, get certified and be done with it" isn't quite what I've been reading from Harrington although the proposals seem to have morphed a bit over the course of the conversation. I haven't seen a final "product" in writing just yet... Phasing out the soundchoice with Zoom is a perfectly valid option, especially if you don't want to keep paying, which i actually completely understand. If your computer has a CDROM drive, you may not need to actuall use a CDG player to play your soundchoice discs. Lots of hosting software will play discs from a cd rom drive. If yours doesn't, then there are second hand programs that will do this just file. Just add an empty mp3+g file to use as a place holder for your software/rotation. either way, problem solved.. -James

For the record, we have decided to make the maintenance audits optional. I posted that, but some posts have been removed, so it might not have made it. We're just waiting on the software modifications to open up the certification process. I'm told the main holdup is the disc list feature, which is going to have some cool aspects to it. I will make an announcement when we've cleared testing on it.

Mr. Harrington I'll admit: The more I look at what I have invested in Sound Choice the more I realize what a huge project it would be to replace it all. If it's a one time audit I could probably talk the wife into spending the money even though I'm not doing a show right now. So have I aggravated Phoenix to the extent that I'm persona non grata? Or will this program be open to me as well?

Play from original sc discs. Problem solved! The rules have changed so many times, now James is saying the yearly maintenance audit fee is “optional”.

The vendor hasn't finished the work yet. Should be this week. I'll announce it here and send you a private message when it's open.
