You can take it to the bank that any changes will cost us more money than we pay now both as consumers and as KJ's. Any new schemes they come up with will not have the consumer's, the artists, or the writers interests anywhere close to the top of the list. |

Read this piece and follow the link at the end to the full report. The "k" word doesn't get a single mention I can find - not even in the synchronization rights section. Maybe we're too small to matter... http://www.hypebot.com/hypebot/2015/02/ ... -one-.html |

Curently, ASCAP, BMI and SESAC could care less if you own/possess any original media so long as the bar pays the pro fees. If this all comes to pass, my guess will be that the same thing will apply. My prediction is that their may end up being some sort of "license" that DJ's, karaoke hosts and other entertainers must buy to let them play music/videos/karaoke. They still won't care if you own/possess original media or not so long as you pay for your license. So that will leave only SC/PEP and Piracy Recovery, LLC as the ONLY karaoke companies in existence that will be policing original media, just like it is today. So very little will change other than having to also get a license to play karaoke music in general (as in karaoke operators pay even more just to stay in business) So our costs go up, piracy continues to be an issue, and PEP and PR still filing trademark lawsuits. Worst case scenario is that the license will eliminate the need for original media all-together and all the pirates get to go legitimate overnight if they can afford and decide to pay the license fee. So yet again I say...... Original Media is dead. |

Not sure which kinds of business are being considered here though. Or would it be all businesses? If a manufacturer could do "one stop shopping" for all the licensing they would need to produce, stream and/or sell content in various formats, that might be a good thing. |

Considering how few karaoke hosts operate as actual businesses....... |

but it sounds like they are suggesting the PRS for Music approach. one place to get the licenses to make whatever you are making with the music. |

There are no changes proposed by the US Copyright Office to sync rights in their most recent report. In fact, it is their conclusion that sync rights are in a good place right now. There is a handy infographic at the link that demonstrates the proposed changes versus current law and procedures. http://www.digitalmusicnews.com/permali ... ted-states |
