Warning: This is a "concert on tv I saw last night" based mini rant.
Let's face it; almost all "new rock" really sucks. It has zero soul. It doesn't seem to come from people who paid their dues riding around the region in a broken down truck. I say if the manus want to produce some "new rock" they should dig up some of the less traveled tunes of the people who helped make rock what it is today.
I say look no further than REO Speedwagan. Yes, I am may be one of their biggest fans of all time. Yes, I have seen them 20 something times and that may be pushing 30. I thought back to the last time I saw them while watching their special last night. We had two young ladies (mid 20s) with us and we saw Loverboy, 38 Special, Styx and REO. One of the girls is a HUGE Styx fan but after the show, all she could talk about was REO. She said that she even liked the new stuff which made me laugh so loud that the group was taken back. I then told her that wasn't new stuff, that was really old stuff. Songs like "Keep Pushin", "Golden Country", "Back on the Road Again" (Bruce Hall on lead vocals). These "kids" loved the stuff, and why would they not? There are others; "Like You Do", "Say you Love me or Say Goodnight". Fun songs that wouldn't probably make good karaoke like "157 Riverside Avenue" and the "Flying Turkey Trot".

Many of the AOR bands went through several stages of success but it seems like only the last round gets remembered. If the Manus want to produce some "new" rock, maybe they need to look at some stuff from previous phases of the "old rock".
