Lord Burnstrum . . . thank you for your kind words and support. The short answer to your first question is no. Each song must be individually approved and for various reasons. As far as custom CD+Gs, due to licensing issues they are not available in the USA. Any custom CD+Gs that are available across the pond or elsewhere other than the USA & Canada would be under a separate MCPS/PRS license taken out in behalf of the distributor.

Smoothedge69 . . . you've totally misunderstood the purpose of the CAP program. It was and still is a program in which users of unauthorized Stellar products can enter an agreement with Stellar whereby Stellar will agree to not bring suit against the unauthorized user for the acquisition, use and possession of unauthorized Stellar products. It does not sell, license or otherwise grant any rights in any of the content for which is listed in the CAP exhibits. If you were contemplating a CAP program it could only be for two reasons, either you have unauthorized content that you use or at one time used and acquired (in which case I would strongly encourage you to at least make further inquiry), or a cheap way of purchasing the entire Stellar catalog up to 2007 for reasons in which I have just pointed out, you would have been grossly misinformed.

I was just making an observation. As for your product, I have Rock Dec 04 and Rock Oct 04. That is why I was asking about where all the old stuff went. And yes, I shifted my two PMH discs to my computer, and further, yes I still own the discs.

For the record, as far as I know the uk select a track site has not been banned in Canada and if stellar were to offer custom cdg or download I would whole hearted lay support them

Even on off.direct sales are still legal to import into the states

jclaydon . . . we'll keep that in mind if ever we're in a position to be able to legally offer custom CD+Gs as well. Bear in mind that while there are companies offering seemingly legal custom discs (and there may be 1 or 2 as far as I can tell), all is not always as it appears.

The CAP program was and still is strictly voluntary. We do not perform audits nor do we put much stock in the audit process, and please do not take this and turn this statement into something which it is not, a slight against other karaoke labels who engage in that process. Quite frankly, I've tried to maintain my distance on this business of karaoke lawsuits, audits, the demonization of SC, as well as the cannonization of SC ad nauseum. I've reviewed hundreds if not thousands of posts on the topic and for the life of me cannot find anything of value or of use to anyone. All I've seen is a heck of a lot of vitriol, discourtesy, accusations, innuendo, etc. The only thing that I see is an issue that has created a division among KJs often accompanied by some very harsh behavior. If I didn't know better I would have thought that this was a "divide and conquer" tactic.

The reason I expanded on this topic is to make clear is that I get the sense that posts of this type may lead to the piracy topic in which I have no intention of getting involved in the piracy forum wars, and want to discourage at the outset any thoughts of my involvement in these debates. If there is one thing in which everyone seems to agree is that piracy is detrimental to the karaoke industry. Where it bogs down is in determining the motivations of those who take action in combating it. More often than not that is dictated by one's point of view rather than what is in a man's heart. Unfortunately that distinction is seldom made. Nevertheless as a company we deal with piracy in our own ways and according to my own conscience, and I would prefer to leave the topic at that and move on to other things that may be of interest to anyone.

You're welcome. And if you come through this and end up selling downloads, you will have my future support, too. Just make sure you keep us posted.

wow, why so aggressive Gemini?
the selections may not be at the top, but you are making it sound like they are doing it on purpose or just don't care.

And mine. I really is a shame that licensing karaoke is such a hassle in North America.

Edit:totally off topic but just as an add on.. Chartbuster, despite all its faults, had an AWESOME custom setup, you'd pay for each track you wanted, and then you payed a flat fee 'fixing' cost depending on what type of media you were ordering the tracks on. I think it was $5 for a disc and $20 for an SD card

Yes . . . indeed it is a shame that licensing is not a simple process. Unfortunately there are a lot of parts to licensing and after having done this for 20 years I still learn new stuff (not to mention shake my head in disbelief) all the time. Believe me, nothing kills me more than to see the titles that we could be releasing and can't, but are being released by our competitors two to three months down the road from when we would have released them.

There are some people on this website that can remember back in the mid 90's when we were way ahead of the curve in song selection. Back then people didn't recognize the titles either, but it was for an entirely different reason. It was because most of our selections didn't even show up on the charts yet, but people still purchased them because they knew that eventually these songs would chart high and be very popular. When we would analyze our past years data, we could determine that our accuracy was in the vicinity of 95% good picks. At that time our competitors where searching the Billboard charts which we knew was a scam (remember soundscam er soundscan?) and which gave us a huge leg-up on our competition in terms of song selection.

Still, that was then and this is now and as a company we need to legally find a way to satisfy customer demand in spite of these difficulties. There are no more laurels in which we can rest on so we need to be every bit as innovative and creative now as we were when we first introduced a monthly line of current releases. While everyone and their brother is going after the same hunk of cheese, maybe we just have to find a different hunk of cheese to go after. Just gotta make sure that the cheese we offer doesn't stink to high heaven like the one we're serving now.
