Well first of all, it was ice to meet a fellow board member- Ericlater- at the finals last night. You know it's gonna be a blast when you have 7 or 8 hosts coming together for one night. Needless to say the quality of singers was unbelieveable, and no equipment was damaged.....lol

Now, I did not win the big prize, of overall best host. That honor went to the bars regular Thursday night host. No funny business there, right?????

However they did award somethng to every host. One of my good friends got the "Silver Mic" award for best announcing voice. Another got an award for best under pressure due to equipment problems. I really thought that should have been me. Until they announced my unepected award...... :drums:

"Best Overall Sound System"!!!!! It was the only award that also came with a $50 gift certificate to the local karaoke shop. Imagine my surprise considering I was doing the show with 1/2 an amp.

Something new to add to my website......I mean hacksite......Voted "Best Overall Sound System" in South Florida! I will scan the certificate soon and post..... :drunk:

That title didn't make the regular KJ look to good, did it?      Our KJ is better, but his equipment isn't.  LMAO

Actually they let the regular KJ go. This was her idea to drum up Monday night business and it didn't work quite as well as she had hoped....

It was fun, and just gives me one more bit of ammo when looking for shows!

No KJ in their right mind would invite me to take part in a competition like that around here.     They will be quickly unemployed.     You can take a step up from crap to great.   But you can not go backwards from great to crap.     I'l blow them away, before the first song is over. LMAO  :O

Yep.  It was sure something to see the look on dbk's face when they announced that he had won for best sound system.  And he does have a great selection of songs per his web site. I guess you could only win one award.  Someone else won for song catalog.

I invite you, with your system, in the club I work now - anyday! But you would have to make sure not to tune for the room, leave your eq all over flatline & do NOT add a crossover or amp to your system.  Then we can do a sound off back to back!!!

I would not touch a thing....You can have any witnesses you want.    However your comparison to a house system and my lowly portable system is unfair.   I would still take that challenge in a heartbeat.    But to be truly fair we would have to go to a neutral bar and go head to head. :worship:

Apples to apples... you know.

It's not hard mounted anywhere, I can make mine as portable as you need it, it's all mounted in road cases & ready to move anytime I need it to, speakers are on quick disconnect system so I can take them down in about 5 minutes, so no problem, only difference is I run a properly amped & crossed over triamp system & tune for each room.
Bring it on any day, but you would need to come here because I do not know where you are, you can find me at least!

this is to little poodle boy:

can somebody please put that ignorant a$$ down!!  i know if my dog suffered from cranal analectomy, i would shoot him.

ooh, i'm so good and everyone else sucks
ooh, i have the best equipment and everyone else sucks

ooh, you suck

it seems to me that you have a self esteem issue.  why can't you just come in here, be nice to everyone and talk about fun things.

i would bet $100,000 against you for lonman.  he has great personality, his sound quality if fantastic and he has a great selection.

why don't you be half the man you claim to be and let us in on your little secret of where you are located and where you do shows and we will come see you.

all talk and no show.

personally, i haven't kj'd in a year, but when people find out that i'm in the booth, the place gets packed.  i enjoy doing it and the customers know it.

also, a great teacher is one who teaches others in hopes that they achieve what they want...and does it for nothing.  i have trained many a kj and they are doing great with their shows.  and you know something else, when i walk into their shows, they let everyone know i taught them.  we have a great relationship with each other and help each other out whenever and wherever we can.

it's called friendship....you should try it sometime, but first you have to put your ego in check.

you, my dear idiot, are the hack!

ps i promised myself i would not fall in the BS that BD brings, but reading this post just got me frustrated.

Thank you. Thanks everyone. I have gained invaluable advice over the years on here from what mixer to buy, to how to adjust the EQ on the mixer.

And yes Eric, I was shocked- you shoulda seen me the night of the show trying to figure out how to run on 1/2 an amp...to go from that beaten up to best sound was QUITE the surprise.

And BD, that was on 3 speakers and 1/2 an amp. Now if I didn't have this darn day job and I could actually go out and look for a gig....lol

PS: I put my system on the line to see Lonman vs. BD- Neutral Ground. 2 consecutive weekday nights. Set up and tear down. Judged by fellow hosts and patrons. Judging will be on song book, sound, personality, and overall quality. I bet we would have no trouble getting a neutral venue....

Now let's examine the reason for this thread. :O

The KJ at "X" bar is having trouble getting a big crowd.   :O  So the idea is bring in some other KJs to help build the night.     Have I got everything right so far?

1.  Why is the night so bad???? any clues???

      ANSWER:   They suck.

2.  If you suck that bad, bringing in another KJ, disguised as a contest, almost guarantees that you will be losing your job soon to another KJ. LMAO  LMAO

   a.   Also it verifies that you suck and can not draw a crowd.

   b.  The bar owner got to audition everyone for a very low price.    Pretty smart.  :worship:

3.   Only an idiot KJ would admit that.

4.   We could have had a job similarly.    A KJ we know got sick so the bar called us to fill in for him.    Big mistake.   Guess who they wanted to do the karaoke after that night?????      WE didn't take his job because we are friends.   However, after they got rid of him some time later, I think he was too sick to work for a while heart trouble, we got the job and charged more that he did.   Go figure, sorry my swelling is increasing.

We get a lot of jobs that way.   Any KJ in this area will have a fellow hack fill in.   They don't want me anywhere near their job, even if it's by accident... LMAO

KJ friends are safe.    Hacks are not, so beware.

Well, like most of your posts, you are partially right, and partially not...

The resident host was not bad at all. I just think she was given a bad night. It is rare for a Monday night show to thive. Add to this the fact it was an 'alternative' lifestyle bar, and you can see why it might have been a difficult show for anyone to hold.

As far as the bar owner getting to audition talent, that was my initial thought too. However he made it clear he is ending Monday night Karaoke all together, so who knows....

And how much of an idiot can she be if she thought of it, and managed to get paid something for having other people run the show?

And in conclusion BD, I read some other posts of yours. Did you lose another show? You said you work 5 nights a week and it used to be 6. Hmmmm....Does attitude couint more than "continuous karaoke"? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

No I shall correct you.  :O   I only want to work 5 nights a week.   That has been my schedule for many years.      :worship:
