Weeknights can be very lucrative for bar owners and KJ's

I've had a Monday night gig that has been running very succesfully for 3-1/2 years now and with the exception of Saturday it's the bars highest grossing night of the week.

I had a Thursday Gig that was very successful for over 3 years as well, so week nights can be ver good.

Cover charge would put too much pressure on the KJ and Bar Staff.

The only way I would work in a bar that charges a cover is to have them place someone at the door to collect it and that kinda defeats the purpose as it creates
additional labor expenses. Drink prices accomplish the same thing and there is no additional labor to collect it.

I feel, like others have finaly hit on, that karaoke should pay for itself with an increase in sales.  Not only shpuld the bar make more money after paying the KJ, but the bartenders also make more money in TIPS.

At my regular gigs, the sales are at least doubled as compared to nites that I am not there hosting karaoke.  At one particular bar, a once a month gig, sales are 5 times more on the nite I am there, compared to a non-entertainment night.

The one thing i NEVER understood, is say MR Bar Owner has a decent crowd on Saturday night no matter what is going on, and then books enteretainment for that night.  Why not bokk entertainme on the night that is slower, in hopes to build up the night also.  Kinda like at one of my gigs, got asked to do entertainment for New Years Eve (NYE).  WHY??????  THe place will be packed with or without entertainment.

I'm going off my own topic here a bit.  Do most of you KJ's have your weeknight shows early like 8 to 11? 9 to 12?  Do many of your singers need to get home early because of work?

My Monday Gigs Start at 9:30 and go till 2am

We have alot of service industry people that come in as this bar is on a street that has like 35-40 bars and restaurants within say 2 miles of road. Many of them are bartenders and waitresses that work in upscale restaruants and they close at 10:30 or 11pm and so I get a big rush of folks at 11pm and the bar stays full till closing.
We originally had it from 8 to 11....but found the new hours to work better.
Now that the bar has gone non-smoking the business is mainly 25-35 age group which stays out later.

My Thursdays used to start at 8pm and go to 12am and worked well for that venue. I no longer do thursdays as I'm too busy the rest of the week.

9-1 Sun-Thurs.  Some nights it's slow, some nights we are packed from start to finish.  I usually average anywhere from 10-20 on weeknights fairly consistantly.  20-30 on Fri-Sat.
