With all due respect Tonya....I would suggest not letting all this get to you....In the couple years i've been here i've seen this very topic recycle itself about a thousand times, and it always ends with the same result, no one is right, and no one is wrong, the ranking/critique system isn't fair...blah blah blah, just sing and be happy your alive, there are alot more important matters to worry yourself with...:)

Hey chamjam...it's hard not to when I feel so passionately about music/singing, but you are right, there are more important matters to worry about. Thanks for reminding me. - Tonya

Tonya why are you so concerned with what others think of you? Why get defensive? You took the opportunity to critique me, I thanked you for it :)
As to showering etc, honey does it really really bother you that much to see others having a laugh?

I am all for having fun, but if the topic is about critiqueing or something along the music line, keep to it. If you want to have fun, then go to the off topic site and do it. I come to the forums in hopes of getting some good feedback/help on issues about music, not about showering, etc.  So if you want to call me defensive, then go ahead...I just think there is a time and place for everything. yes, I critiqued you, but now due to this particular thread, no one else feels confident to even leave a decent comment anymore. Again, I am my own worst critic, so go ahead and tell me what you really think. - Tonya

sweety I see you have started a thread of your own called no mudslinging. Due to that I went and viewed the responses to your sub in case you were indeed being victimised for being honest :)
No-one has given you anything but their pleasant honest opinion
So where are you coming from Tonya?

Where am I coming from? Good question....apparently you didn't read x's comment on there, did you. As far as the mud slinging....people are using comments on subs to bash someone else.(not just on mine....I have read alot of different comments.) He/she is too frightened to tell me the truth. Shoot, even Linda was hesitant to respond to my sub.(again, back to the sugar-coating) I have read over many of x's comments on other subs(yes, I listened to most of them as well....some I agree with and some he's totally way off. But then again, he's not the only way that doesn't give proper critiqueing where it's due. I think everyone just needs to grow up. And yes, it does bother somewhat to know what people think of me....it's called being human.

Now, I have to go get ready for work....oops, sorry, wrong place for that one. LOL  - Tonya

*sigh* of course he is too scared to, you and others bagged him to the point where it was nearly impossible for him to continue.
As others have pointed out this has happened numerous times before, Nathan even made mention of a lady who gave strong unbiased opinions before and got chased off for it.
You cant have it both ways :) either you want someone to be honest hon or you dont. What I saw on your subs was honest and pleasant neither of the two women who offered a constructive opinion seemed scared to do so. Please look deep within yourself and examine your motives for making a fuss
Blessed be

I think what songbird is mentioning (perhaps), and something I feel has become a real problem too, is that often what should in fact be constructive critique, takes a backseat to what's become camouflaged bashing (mud-slinging) or commentary using the guise of "Critique".

"Well, you did ask for a critique didn't you ?"  is the response to at times what isn't actually hypervigilant behaviour, or unnecessary defensive posture.  Attitude, competitive aspects, and "Sticking up for ones clique" does filter into a critique category via snide rhetorical banter, sarcasm, ad hom innuendo, etc.  ALL who see this feel somewhat threatened by it because it is attacking the person.  Another danger of a Critique category where those who should use it constructively, instead choose to hurl it around and sting others on the butt with the new "C" shooter they have available (metaphor for pea shooter)

While this behaviour might only be transpiring between two, three, or four individuals, it DOES trickle and make most feel uncomfortable.  Assume a group of adults want to get together and have fun, but in the background there's constant bickering going on (seen by many as immature and defeating the purpose of Singer's Showcase), although the belicose stuff going on is a low mumble, it still is nagging, seemingly unending and it's negative.. character bashing, etc.  It DOES get to people trying to have fun in time !   People join this forum because they have something in common,  they work with singers or ARE singers, or aspiring singers, thing is, outside of singing, and singing related chatter, very little other intense subject matter really belongs in a singing related venue.. Fighting is intense.. Politcally driven debate and human rights issues are intense.. Failing relationships involving emotional suffering is intense... People join here for SINGING ! and singing equipment..  I need to constantly remind myself of this as well !

While I'm the type who can easily now-adays sit ringside while two are pummeling one-another, simultaneously laughing hysterically at the TV set in the opposite direction watching "King Ralph",  MOST are not this way.  Most don't want to see bickering in a fun forum.  Critique by definition (yet again) is supposed to be a CONSTRUCTIVE tool.  Not a weapon.  It also doesn't belong in a comment box of a person who hasn't specifically designated that they want it..  That is instead impinging ones self. Comment boxes are not meant for critique unless a person designates "C"...  (I wonder if those receiving a "C" that they request should even be able to respond in public, perhaps a person receiving the Critique should only be allowed to respond to the Critiquing party via Email or private...AND, the person Critiquing must allow a thru channel of discussion ?  In most cases a Critique isn't to be denounced and fought with.  It's another persons opinion.  Very little of the time do people really get a chance to respond to those criticising them in the real world.  In such a case this dialogue takes on a new form... Should we have a "D" category too for "Debate" ? Brief afterthought is that in a forum with ALL ages welcome, and ALL levels of seriousness regarding singing.  There really shouldn't be ONE category that's expected to honor a mature level of "critiquing". Nothing easy or light about the process, and some DO NOT wish to see hack criticisms. The hack critiques leaves vast margin for problems..  Critique DOES mean serious, intense, at least somewhat direct, so the presentation IS VERY important !  This really is reserved for those who are mature and serious about their craft

Have I mentioned anyplace that I'm starting to have reservations about whether or not I'm actually doing him justice by allowing this ?  It might soon end !

It doesn't seem to matter whether it's a serious thread or a humorous thread -- threads seldom stay on topic.  If things are getting too serious or become mean spirited, somebody will throw a monkey wrench into and make it silly/fun.  Then after that's gone on for a while, somebody posts something serious again with a 'hey, let's get back to business' tone. Right or wrong, it's just the way it works around here.

Yes it's a serious thread.  But sometimes interjecting goofy humor to lighten the intensity up as intermission isn't that bad a thing.
