I'm shut down for awhile - so you may see me a bit more on KS for awhile.

I went running yesterday, and then ended with a quick solo trip through the disc golf course as it was getting dark. I was throwing hole 14 and there was a rock with a part jutting out of the ground. Didn't see it as I attempting a long range forehand drive with my Avenger disc. I stepped sideways into the throw and yes, caught my shoe / foot on the rock. My left foot rolled over, and my left shin and knee bowed as my right foot tried to correct. I crashed to the ground - very non-gracefully. Ouch! I was afraid with all the uncoordination and rock snagging my leg that I might have actually broken something. As I lay there in pain I finally looked around to see if there were any bones jutting out, or if one foot was turned around backwards. Yep, it seemed that bad potentially. Turns out somehow I sprained both ankles on the outside. How can you do that? It just doesn't seem possible. I thought my left leg might have a fracture near the knee or shin. I'll go see my foot doctor on Monday. Seems like everything like this always happens on the weekend and I'm not paying extra.

I don't really know that I haven't fractured anything, but I don't think I have. I think only sprained. However this sucks cause that means I can't do anything except sit and lay mostly. Plus I've got a trip planned to Colorado in a month and my brother and I were going to attempt to climb another fourteener. Doesn't sound like a lot of training in my near future.

Oh woe......... :bigcry:  :crying2:

You know, over the years I've sprained my left ankle like 20 times all sorts of various ways...falling off a bike, jumping for a shot in racketball, serving in tennis, stepping off a road in the dark while running, stepping in a hole playing volleyball in a grass court....on and on. This thing can't take it much more. It worries me all the permanent damage and weakness next time around.

Any of the rest of you have trouble with your ankles.

Share you sad tale of woe....

Take care of that area Bill.  Huge network of many small bones, and it's amazing how easy bones fracture...  I have a telescoped left leg from my teens (I raced downhill) Skiing, and this was before bindings were sophisticated hit ice with one ski, mogal with the other tips crossed, binding didn't release,  my leg snapped and spun around like a top,  Tibia, Fibula, Femur spiral fractured compound fractures etc... Seemed to happen so easily... cast for over a year in the days of heavy plaster and full leg casts, but that was after I got out've traction.  Actually what's probably dumber is what I did to my left pinky playing college volleyball..  (Sort've blocked a spike without making a fist :( ),       I had a gig that same night, piano and bass and DAMN it killed me,  even with drugs and loads of alcohol... Turns out it's still deformed.... (curves in).. but it works, thing is I still nurse it which is a BAD habit, since it's an important finger for instrument work... I got in the habit of nursing it after I realized a shattered it, and it got splinted for quite some time... bone and joint smashed..... should never have waited about a week to go to the infirmiry,  I just have a fear of doctors... always did...  What else have a busted ?  A couple things here and there I suppose... It's just amazing how little it takes to break a bone... Realizing that as we age the bone density isn't what it was, and we get brittle, I had to stop doing loads of stuff I loved...  Martial Arts,  Arm Wrestling with the kiddies at bars, Even touch football,  and now I need to watch when I lift too...  I don't want to pamper myself... I still feel like I'm in my teens, and THAT
S the problem right there.... Injuries don't heal quickly when we get into our 50's... I still can lift quite a bit,  but I feel it for the next few days..  Tough to know what we should and should not do... Scary thing is this,  muscle can be much stronger than our bones..  A friend of mine (mid-50's) ended up in a cast, JUST from turning a screwdriver hard...  That scared the crap out've me,  he said he didn't even feel as though he was turning the screw THAT hard, he just heard a wrist-bone snap. and his arm ballooned.  Another friend that was an athlete, built like a tank, mid-40's, tore both quadraceps november ice=skaing with his wife and kids.... Doc told him, sports when younger, bad knees, and Jogging constantly caused damage and deterioration...

This stuff isn't fun to hear... Frisbee golf sounds like a blast... but  even turning and falling the wrong way can break a hip, ankle, arm, etc...  Balance goes, bones get brittle, time to limit certain things...

Stick to the safe stuff like tornado chasing   LOL

Da-mn Steven! That is scary!    That sucks! Getting old sucks! I know what you mean...I still feel like I'm in my early 20's. I was thinking of skiing this winter too... That's another thing I do that I forgot about..skiing. Man, that sounded like a bad fall, and being a skier I can see it happening. It sure is nice until you fall though  LMAO .

Guess I better watch my Bowflex workouts too.  :O

Perhaps if we load up on calcium and multivitamins???

The saying "We are only is old as we feel" doesn't pertain to our physical being.  The body of an older person just isn't as resilient as the body of a 16 year old.  And, we deteriorate regardless of attempts to stay young.  Just a matter of time.  Sounds glib,  and it is glib

Ouch that sounds painful !
Your not old - you just have week ankles - I'd invest in some nice high tops.

I hope you feel better soon.

Yeah I always look it as you can't change your chronological age, but you can change your biological age if you work at it and take care of yourself. Smoking and sun damage / exposure are two of the worst things you can do to your looks. I firmly believe lots of aerobic exercise peels away the years.

Went to the foot doctor today and he said 'You win the prize'. Apparently I was the first he ever saw that managed to sprain 2 ankles at the same time.  LMAO

He gave me a couple of braces to strap on and I can walk around some. Heck I want to run, and play disc golf, tennis, whatever else I can find. Not in the mood to just lay around right now.

I don't know what the weather is like there this time of year, but here it is near perfect. That is the worst time to be down and out.
It may be time to catch up on reading a good book or  simply just hang out with us computer addicts.  LMAO

What course was that? Seawright?  I haven't gotten back to disc golf except for a quick 9 in Zilker the other week, and the one in Kyle.

Turns out the left one was fractured. Right one just sprained. Not sure about my leg/knee. I may not go to the Dr for that. Generally I seem to be able to walk on it ok. Guess if it keeps hurting I'll have it looked at, but it's a different kind of doctor. I think an orthopedic dude?

Doc couldn't tell if fracture was new or old, but oddly I didn't seem to have pain there. Later I realized I may have nerve damage there from all the other sprains so I may not be able to feel pain.  LMAO

Anyway, I've been taping up my ankles and wearing these braces he gave me. Been playing some disc golf and surprisingly doesn't hurt much as long as they are kept from bending by the braces. Guess I can't do tennis or running or much else. Maybe some easy walks. That's probably about it for awhile. In about a week I start physical therapy which should strengthen them soon.

Stupid ankles they are really annoying. This happens too much and it gets to where it is hard to just go out and run and stuff like I used to do. Maybe some good physical therapy will really help. Jeff has similar problems with his ankles as well. He usually screws his up playing basketball - so we have this in common.  LMAO

You're in Austin too eh? Yeah disc golf is fun, and seems a lot of people still don't know that much about it. It's just another thing to keep me moving and burn a few calories. Nice to be out in the outdoors during good weather.

I injured myself at the course at Williamson County Regional Park near hwy 1431 and Sam Bass road. It's a new course and a very nice park. It has some fun, challenging throws with 18 holes. I think it tends to have a lot of poison ivy though - and I am super allergic to that. Lately we've been playing way down south. I forget the name of the course / park but it is near Disc Nation www.discnation.com. Supposedly it is the most popular disc golf course around and one of the favs of many in the country I have been told.

Other places I've played are Zilker, Circle C Ranch, and Peeze Park (spelling) - that may be the same as Waterloo.

Maybe I should start doing this competively. I'm not as good as top players, but I would probably enjoy the informal tournaments. Or perhaps I should try a league.

Yesterday I was out tossing all my new discs in a field at a target about 200 yards away. I was trying to figure out the forehand and backhand flight characteristics. Very interesting to see how they all fly and their different abilities.

Still, it's a bit confusing trying to figure out which driver, mid range, and putter to use.

Oddly, I seem to be getting around pretty well. Hasn't stopped me from playing disc golf or walking around really. Probably I should be staying off of them more, but what the heck. Guess I can't really play tennis right now though. Too much side to side motion.

Supposed to see the foot doc again tomorrow. Guess we'll be talking about phys therapy. I always blew it off in the past, but I hear it can work wonders if taken seriously.

Hmm...probably I can start riding my bike.

How have you been doing Sharon?

Kyle and Zilker? Yeehaw! New sites to play for planet bill and I! We've been playing Metropolitan Park, Pease Park and Texas State University where I always school Billy in disk golf. Call me Professor!

He gave you a strap on? Keep up the aerobic exercise and put that away. You better find a new doctor before he asks you to grab your ankles(!)  Okay, now I've stepped over the line.  Bill, all I can say is "Run Forest, run!"

Sorry, it was just too tempting...  :brows:

Honestly, I'm sorry to hear that Bill.  Hope you heal quickly.

Yeah, I've never played in Kyle. Never heard of it. Jeff, I thought you've played Zilker before? I have. You also left out Circle C, and Williamson Country Regional near my house - the poison ivy course. Fortunately I haven't gotten poison ivy from it yet, even though I am hyper allergic.

Yeah like those last 2 games I won at Seawright  LMAO. You might have won the last at Texas State...I can't remember.

Well thanks Luly you sweety. Seems I am doing pretty good. I don't really notice them as a problem much lately, but I assume if I tried to stress them with side to side, or accidentally leaned one too much....Ouch. My left one will be unstable now for some time. The right one hasn't hardly ever been sprained, but over the years the left one has 20+ times and apparently now fractured too. I was hoping to start jogging more cause I was going to Colorado mid June with my brother and we were going to climb some fourteeners. I really need to work on the aerobic because my asthma has been bad and we will be at altitude. I may find out since I now have asthma that I really can't climb, or hike at high altitude anymore. I hope not. I'm hoping that the mold and stuff that I am allergic too here won't affect me up there and suddenly I wll be able to breath well.
