Whenever I try to view a topic and scroll to a point where Lonman has made a comment, the PC seems to lock up and becomes unresponsive and I have to do a complete reset.

If I am reading a page where there is no comment showing from Lonman, there is absolutely no problem.  I am assuming this has something to do with the graphic at the bottom of all his posts, which may have some dubious code associated with it.

Has anybody else noticed this?  I am using a PC at an internet cafe and there may be some protection set-up they have which is blocking malicious code or something!

Sorry you're having trouble Murrlyn.

No I'm not having an issue like that. Lon's had that graphic on there for a while, so I'm surprised to hear that.

Is your pc completely freezing up? Unfortuanetly that could be an issue more on your end.
Usually it's
either your registry has become corrupt or your virtual memory is overloaded.
I'd check your available processing power - just hit cntrl/alt/delete.

You may need to do some sort of registry scan also.

Could that be caused by a system that doesn't have sufficient cache, or ram to handle graphics DL's ?   An older system with less onboard RAM, or a cache that can't handle larger sized DL's ?   or a slower connect ?

No there is absolutely nothing wrong with the 'code'.  Chances are it's a slower/older machine or a slow connection.  The gif file itself was rather large & most newer machines have broadband connection & can handle it, but I will delete it so the slower machines can handle it.

Thanks Lonnie... I guess these cafe 'puters are just a bit geriatric for the broadband they are connected to!  Sheesh, I can't even watch the America's Cup races 'cause they haven't got the right version of "Flash" installed!  Guess that's the price of being nomadic! :)

Exactly what I was saying those are generally older/slower machines set up to do email & general web surfing nothing with high end or large graphics - broadband on a slower/older machine is just going to help with the web itself, not the actual graphic content - as you found out by trying to watch the America Cup races.  There was nothing wrong with my gif other than the machine you are using at the cafe can't open it. :(
