Heeeyyyyy.....

That has the makings of a GREAT song hook Steven. (errr... I mean Cletus)

I can hear a banjo behind it..... and some keys.... a mandolin.... and a mean electric lead riff..... a little fiddle solo.... and some loud snares.

Just remember.......  that Charmin always knows best. Charmin is always right. Charmin always gets her way (well, most of the time anyhow), and if you ever hit the lottery and feel the need to set someone up for life... choose Charmin;)

Well this was all understood a LONG time ago!  LOL

How is the Mexican food up that way Charmin? I used to be very leery of it north of Tx, but with immigration everywhere perhaps Mexican food has come of age in the US (and Canada) by now?

It's pretty dang good. Of course, I've only been to about 4 different ones around here, once I get to liking a place- I generally make it my favorite and don't go to any others. I know what you mean... I'm always concerned about cleanliness issues in restaurants... but they seem to be fine, and the food is always nice and fresh.

One thing that irritates me is their PORTION size. Good lord, I could never come CLOSE to eating everything they put on a plate. First, I almost fill up with chips and salsa, so that doesn't help. Then I normally get a chicken quesadilla (my absolute favorite), but I can't even eat half of it- it's huge, and I'll get a side of refried beans & cheese. (i love them with chips and guacamole) ..... Last night (to not be wasteful) I asked the guy if he could bring me a VERY SMALL order of the refried beans. He looked at me like I was crazy and said "yeah, I suppose I could do that".  LOL  He still brought too much and I left over half of it on the plate.

They get offended it seems if you want something "smaller" or "mild".

Oh, and their Margaritas...... are the best:) No denying that.

I live in Canby, Oregon. Small town about smack in between Portland and Salem.... though a bit off the beaten path. Hell, you could come by boat if ya want. Sail into the port of Portland by way of the Columbia River Gorge, then merge into the Willamette River, connect up with the Molalla River.... and head downstream. Dock at Knights Bridge in Canby, and you're only 5 minutes from me, I'm real close to the Molalla River State Park.... I'll come down and pick ya up.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?city=Canby&state=or

I'm the big red star;)

You DO know where Oregon is, right?  :D

Oh yeah, Margaritas...one of my favorite subjects / drinks. Back in college I always tried to go and and find the least expensive and best tasting / strongest Margaritas around. Seems the Texas Union (at UT) made one of my favs in a large mug for about $.75.

Back then Jorges Margaritas were known to be some of strongest around and supposedly contained Everclear. They would really mess you up. One time me, and a friend of mine went down to 6th Street in downtown Austin to the Jorges. Your not from Austin, but 6th is the club and bar neighborhood.  My old record had been 3 Jorges margs - so I was out to beat my record. I eventually made it to 4 that night and was very 'Happy'. Both of us went down to the street and started to check out the club scene. We were standing on a street corner after crossing and some women tried to flag us down from the window inside the nearby club. Somehow I didn't totally see this, but my friend did. He went in there, but I didn't know where he went. Problem was I could only see about 10 or 15 feet. Maybe 20. After that everything was blurry. I went on autopilot and started lapping around the street. I think I went around it down 5 or 6 blocks twice. On the way back around I spied this nice looking lady at 'The Fish Market' (a bar) and went and hung out with her.  We got along well and she took me home  :yum: . Despite the vision problems I was having a good time.  I think later she volunteered to drive me to my car, but for some reason I said I'd walk and at about 4am or 5am I ended up walking several miles (still drunk) to a pay phone to call a friend.  LMAO It was kind of messed up, but yeah they are strong margaritas. Now a place in Austin called Baby A's (short for Baby Acapulcos) I believe has the strongest.

As for some of the best though...a visitor to Austin should check out Trudy's. They created a drink called a Mexican Martini which is delicious (and fairly strong). Not completely sure which one is the correct recipe but a few claim it. Check these links:
http://www.recipezaar.com/95987
http://www.recipesfromgrandma.com/2005/ ... ni-recipe/

When you make margaritas I recommend you only use 100% blue aguave Tequila. That's the premium stuff. Go into your liquor store and ask around about the different ones. I've tried a number of them. Cabo Wabo - by Sammy Hagar is pretty good. There are others.

Mexican food is very regional. I like to try it from all over. There is standard Tex-Mex, and there is 'interior' Mexican food that is really great. California has a different southwest spin on many of the dishes - which is probably part of what you get in Oregon. New Mexico, and I believe Arizona also do their own styles / versions which are probably influenced by the Indian population. They tend to do blue corn tortillas and green chili. That stuff is delicious too. If you ever go to New Mexico and Sante Fe, be sure and stop by a place called "Marias" http://www.marias-santafe.com/margar.html
They have very good New Mexican Mexican food, and a huge selection of margaritas (hundreds) that they make from various combinations of high grade Tequilas. I think there is a link to their recipe book on that page.

One of these days I plan on getting back to the last remaining Jorges in Austin. I doubt I'll have quite the good fortune I did on past trips though but one can always hope.

Actually, I'm oringally from just south of Austin. New Braunfels, Texas to be exact. Of course when I lived there, I was much too young to be drinking liquor of any kind, but my love of Margaritas must be in my blood or something;)

Sounds like a night to (not) remember. haha I've had one too many nights like that, where the next morning my memory is all hazy and people tell me stories and I groan and say "I did WHAT?!?!?".... Needless to say, I try to limit my alcohol these days. No need for me to be the party animal, I prefer to be the teller of the funny stories, not the star of them....

Actually, we have a HUGE Mexican population here, the berry crops and nurseries and farm labor bring them here in large numbers. Most Mexican restaurants, you find employees who speak no english at all, they are all imigrants. This being so, I think they keep the food pretty authentic to Mexico. There are also little vans that drive around and set up on a street corner (they have the windows that open out to a walk up order window) Anyhow, they serve tacos, burritos, lots of stuff... You see them in store parking lots often. Good food, very authentic, but scary enough to trust the food from them. (i don't think they're very regulated) I've even in the past seen them walk the streets with a cart and warming oven on it, selling tamales they home make. Again, kinda scary to buy food from.... but I HAVE tried them.

There is a store here that does Green Chili... good stuff. My ulcer/acid reflux keeps me from eating most spicy stuff now though. (hence the "mild" salsa, and my having to choose a Quesadilla as my favorite menu item) I used to eat the heck out of Chili Rellenos, but can't anymore... I'd pay the price for that.

Try the new place right next to Burgerville!  Best burritos I've found in Canby!  $4.50 and they're huge -- wide choice of meats, etc. Great sauces too!

By the laundromat? I've been in there, it's been a while though...... they under new ownership or something?

Are you WANTING to buy me a burrito today Don? Cause Charm is getting kinda hungry anyhow....  LMAO

Nah, yesterday was my splurge day. I had a big ol' chicken salad sandwich and macaroni salad and fruit salad from TW deli.... today, I best go back to my veggies, fruit, and cottage cheese. I have about 4 more pounds to lose by June 10th. If I'm gonna be going out dancing with Matthew I gotta make sure my jeans aren't too snug;)

Oopsie.......dang, that was the dream I had last night. Silly me.

My little brother is coming here June 10th for a week, from Virginia. He's a dance choreographer there for a country-western dance team, and when he comes out here, it's something him and I like to do. My hubby wont dance, can't get my sons in the bars to dance with me, can't dance with strangers cause hubby would beat them all with a big stick..... so when he comes out here is my only chance.

I recently sang with the band (couple months ago) at a place about 30 minutes from here that is supposed to have the biggest bar dance floor on the west coast. It was a VERY cool dance floor..... so I want to try to take him there, if I can.

That's all..... just cause my little brother is coming for a visit. It will be a time of all music and dancing and NO sleep whatsoever;) Always is.

Yeah, sadly I can remember a number of nights like that or worse from the old days. Things were a bit crazy back in college. I don't drink a whole lot nowadays. I might have 1 or 2 drinks a month now.

New Braunfels eh? Nice Hill Country place.

I've tried some of those local portable taco stands too. They tend to drive around new home construction areas and I have a new house. Their direct stuff was different, but still good.

Chili Rellenos? Yeah I love those. There are several places around here that make them good but all different from each other. Often chili rellenos are made from pablano peppars which are fairly mild - so surprised you have trouble with them. Eat more fiber as it helps your system tolerate and heal much better - foods such as this I have found.
