Instead of music request slips, how about a chalk board or sign up sheet. When they come to you to request a song you can point to the board. No one can complain if it's in writing. This way you don't have to deal with slips. You can get a dry erase board really cheap these days. If the owner says something to you again, you can say the patrons pick the songs to be played I don't.
Another way to stop the nonsense is to go to the owner and tell her you feel bad for her that she has to deal with people complaining about karaoke music. She has enough to do running a bar. Then tell her if it happens again to tell the people to come straight to you so you can fix the problem. Sympathize with her telling her you know how hard it is to try and please everyone. Let her know you have found a way to alliaviate the problem for both of you by using some kind of music request system, so everyone can see what music has been requested to be played and no one is being favored. If she sends the complainers directly to you they will stop going to her. You don't have to single anyone out this way.
