Speaking with my wallet is sometimes the only way you can get though to people not being nice human beings. I'm a little touchy yet because of it.

TOTALLY agree with you on your point. Sometimes we kjs forget the human factor. Some people ONLY FEEL Comfortable with a couple songs.
One of my dearest friends only does a couple. And he has a BALL with them. No sweat, just keep spendin' that hard earned cash at my bar!
Welcome to the site, Lazer. I welcome your fresh opinion, and don't EVER back off any stance you have. Even if nobody agrees with you. Be yourself. Anybody that doesn't like that I'll go sit on 'em! !

					| As a KJ I "usually" will open my show with "Stuck in the Middle" by Stealers Wheel
but generally I'll try to do NEW songs when I do sing ( which is not often being the kJ)  - I do have some "favorites" but being the KJ I have been known to put certain of MY favorite songs on the shelf as I learn that some regulars have put them in their weekly routine. BUT THAT JUST ME!
As a rule I've found that regular singers just feel comfortable with the SAME songs week in and week out ..... I even have s few regulars that like the SAME SONGS and can't wait to be able to beat the other one to hand in that slip. ( I don't allow 2 singers to sing the same song in the same rotation)

I'm with you.  I just don't know people don't bore themselves by singing the same songs, week in, week out, year after year.  With the tens of thousands of songs that are out there, why limit yourself to a number you can count on one hand?
And as an audience member you're boring me.  I'd rather hear you do a crappy version of a new song than the 50th rendition I've heard you do of "My Way".
Unfortunately, I know I'm in the minority on this one.  Which is why I can only frequent a place for so long before I have to find someplace new, then it'll take me a few months before I want to stick an icepick in my ears because of the same old songs week after week.

					| I try to not sing the same song more than once in a location in any 5 week period. I used to keep track on a list to make sure, but I long since gave up on that....
So sometimes I forget and break the "rule" but rarely.

That said many songs are going to be sung by me at least once every two months at my regular bar.

 Hero - Enrique Iglacias
 Common People - Pulp
 Disco 2000 - Pulp
Riders On The Storm - Doors (only on stormy nights)
 People Are Strange - Doors
I Melt With You - Modern English
 Aqualung - Jethro Tull
 Enter Sandman - Metalica
 Light My Fire - Doors
 Rebel Yell - Billy Idol
 Lets Dance - Bowie
Is She Really Going Out With Him - Joe Jackson
 America - Neil Diamond
Ring Of Fire - Johnny Cash (the song that started it all 6 years ago).
Life During Wartime - Talking Heads.
Bad To The Bone - Thourogood
House Of The Rising Sun - Animals

Scary I have done all of the above songs at least 12 times each.....

Strangely I never feel I do as good a job after I really know a song. Ususally my best time is on the first or second time I sing a song.

					| ha! I know! even if i don't know for sure if they are singing the same song or not, you almost kknow it when they do...i go use the bathroom or get a drink.  karaoke is so much more fun when everybody is doing something new or something different or something they haven't done too many times already.  I like a mix, I'll try new ones and I will do old ones. _________________

Woah hold the phone.. sheesh don't kill me. I don't frequent the same place so I'm not claiming it as MY song. Yes I do sing a song i am very comfortable with first, which happens to be one of those two. I don't think there is anything wrong with that. ~Lazerdon't worry Lazer...I'm sure they were just yakin you around a bit.  Mz. LaFey and Babs are both really cool if not a bit, shall we say, womanish?  (snogs to Babs and ick)
anyway, welcoem to the forums and if you're ever down in Tejas, come to one of my shows....you can sing them both!_________________ All work and no play make Homer something something
