If anyone wants points let me know.  I am not exaggerating when I say I am approaching a million points in the point bank. (not that too many will wonder how I got so many), but assuming folks want points, just ask. Reason I don't automatically gift them automatically to new people is that some are here for a week, and then we never see them again.. With my luck I'd probably end up gifting my points to the porn spammers..

errm you run a connection to photobucket or somewhere similar that you store your animations online and run the code so as they display

Correct Dani.  1 point for each post within a thread. Two points for each thread started. Points deposited in the point bank accrue interest at the rate of 1% (something like that)..  Those of us that have over a few hundred points really have little purpose for them (since the store that acknowledges our points here really has nothing that warrants having an abundance of points).  I went to Japan last year loaded with point but they wouldn't sell me a University or Beach

For some reason many just don't realize that some born and raised in NYC [well at least during my fathers childhood born and raised on St. Nicholas Ave Washington Heights (about 1/2 mile from Harlem) to parents who believed everything is too dangerous]. Some don't learn to swim, or in his case ride a bicycle, etc, and I can understand it because unless desensitized early certain things such as riding a bicycle, and swimming in potentially deadly depths of water DO NOT seem natural, things such as "Water babies" didn't exist during the 30's and 40's.. City is a different life-style.. I didn't think I'd like it until I got used to living in a smaller yet very active artistics Upstate NY city.. I LOVED it !!  I've lived in the NYC metro area most of my life and I think I'm FINALLY getting old enough to appreciate a city as opposed to suburban rural CT which offers essentially nothing for the arts..  Not that I can afford Central Park West.. But if Central park will allow my to erect a small tent near an outlet (so I can type online) I'd be happy

When I was younger I had a tough time getting past the claustraphobic skyscraper thing... While skating in rockafella plaza and above you the skyscrapers practically appear to touch.. I get dizzy..

Ahhhh, a fellow New Yorker! Very cool indeed! As far as being *desensitized* hec, growing up you had to be or you'd be eaten alive!!! I actually live in Brooklyn, and in one of the worst neighborhoods at that! So yeah I know how to ride a bike, skateboard, mug people & all of the good stuff one must learn at an early age here!

I really don't know how to swim though!  :shock:

Oh yeah, by the way, if you're interested you can rent a tent right on the borderline of Central Park West, it's small yes, but it's practical & has Internet access, so it's all good!! teehee...

.  Yeah,  Since you live in Brooklyn, similar to Babs (near chicago) It's compulsory within the early school years that a child learns how to rob people, and of course where in the head you smack somebody for best results, not to mention proper etiquette during get-aways to remain inconspicuous.  I understand the PTA in these areas funds a lot of money into the "three R's"...  Robbing, Running & Relocating.  You don't live in one of those brownstones I saw in the background of the Jackie Chan movie do you ?  Classy neighborhood  :shock:

I can't imagine being female and living in a "dangerous" neighborhood.  Reason being, I can't imagine as a male how I'd survive a dangerous neighborhood... So I know nothing about growing up in rough areas from the perspective of either gender.  It's always fascinating to listen to stories..  But before I have ANY part in responding with my opinions regarding what transpires in these cities, and gang activity.. I need to go change my SN in here ..  Something like Karyoker, or JDMeister but not my actual name..

OMG, too true really!!  Unlike Suburban children, who had courses like Math, Reading & Social Studies....We Ghetto kids had Slang, Thuggin' & Muggin' 101...Hmmmm, don't know how I graduated college really!

Teehee, wanna know something? I was raised in a biker household {All jokes aside} so being tough was instilled in me at a very early age...

My neighborhood was a lot worse when I was growing up I must admit...Things did get much better, and yes I do live in a private owned {By my Mom} Brownstone, and quite lovely it is...

Sorry, Jackie Chan was "Rumble in the Bronx".  BTW,  you know who one of my neighbors is ?   Fifty Cent..  Not that I'm into that style stuff, but I see the guy about twice a week and don't know the proper spelling of 50 .. But this is sort've interesting.. He's a joker, and he left these crinkled up outside the bank next to my condo (literally within 5-10 feet of the bank ATM), and I'm sure he and his friends were watching me pick these up... Naturally excitedly I picked these up thinking they were real.. I didn't know what they were either.. Yet one of my good buddies and neighbors ( Atty for Mike Tyson who actually lived in the same house 50 lived in prior) explained what was going on here..

If it's any consolation I'm a proud Cornell medschool dropout that chose going on the road.. I certainly don't know how I handled the first 25 years of life.. But they were anything but fun, nor were they who I am/was.. I spent a good portion of the time even during the college years miserable and high/drunk.. Finally realized I'm not who my parents want me to be, and I'm NO doc by any stretch of the imagination (whether I was able to make it that far or not made no difference),  I'm an artistic unstable guy who's NOT meant to hang to close to people in intensely real settings.  I'd have been miserable !!    Not even sure I feel great about going to college or not.. It just wasn't an option.. When I was young we went to college or got drafted.

It's amazing however.  When people sing you have no way to know what geographic location they are from (a good portion of the time), particular if they are born and raised in the United States,  I listen to Billy, and he sounds normal when he sings (just like the rest of us here in CT ),  One would never determine a "Brooklyn type accent" in your singing...  Yet it stands to reason.. Singing and talking are not the same thing, they actually utilize different areas of the brain which is why people the even studder severely can be fabulous singers and unimpaired while singing.. Very different areas of the brain

Yeah,  after I found out that I almost tripped over one of his pranks... I looked the guy up.. Quite a past   Nothing I can imagine..  This guy got NOTHING on a silver platter early years.. His life and lifestyle leaned FAR from him ever becoming anything of a success.

Oh for sure, I saw his biography on VH1 {Not that I'm a fan, but it beats late night infomercials} and he had a really rough life...See what a mic and a bit of determination can do? Hmmm, I guess having talent did help! I mean the guy can write! He's a pretty clever lyricist...

Time and a place I suppose.  Is it his lyrics ? or the fact that somebody in a higher place wanted him to become something ?  If I composed those lyrics, and went to the church Gazebo around here reading them, you can rest assured I'd not be quite so famous..   When you think about it, What is talented about those lyrics ? I don't see it personally..  I'd never even be able to contemplate such a crude and vulgar concept personally as a means of marketing any aspect of myself (however I'm by no means a prude either, to me that's just junk he's spewing).. Similarly we were talking about Bob Dylans singing voice in a different thread, and how so many famous singers today aren't technically singers, and few would wish for such vocal characteristics (yet many others wish for them I suppose)..  

It seems that so much of who makes it these days has little to do with much we can foresee.  In the arts areas is it talent or marketability that gets us places ? Does the listening audience even determine what is marketable, or are we fed it hence get used to it..  Seems people get artists places.. In some cases in the rare traditional setting pure talent will be marketable, but that's "cover" style. If any of the most respected classic rock and ballad bands (or musicians) just happened to show up TODAY, and not 30+ years ago.. Would they ever even stand a chance TODAY ??  SO much is who you know, timing, location, and who knows what else, I know I don't but It's not talent that's really what enables some to break into these areas.. Assuming fitty (whatever) has such talent, I'D never recognise it as such, nor would MOST I know that are my age, socioeconomic status, etc..

Sometimes it appears to me that forcasting WHO can and will make it as the next industry respected/ recognised name in music is no easier than forecasting what will be the first object struck by lightening in any given state a day before the storm arrives.. Seems so random, and of course, talent for some of us in different areas isn't as recognizable assuming what they are doing is in fact talent..  Philosophy of aesthetics fascinates me... Problem I have however is I like one thing in music, and that's "covering that which I love to hear".. It makes it tougher since I allow little room for ME..
