My focus so-far has been blending with the backing, and trying to fit in the mix, but not yet standing out because I don't even know where I should be singing (register-wise).. I've been jumping from baritone to falsetto, experimenting with areas of head-voice, trying to project from chest voice..and in the process elimating many songs that are difficult .. Included was McCartney (quite high) Little River Band (I end up jumping all over the place Quite honestly I wouldn't even know what range to solo in..Lena gave me a few good suggestions.. Currently even Loggins is somewhere down the road. I feel like a kid in a Candy-Store over in K-solo tho.. Reason being, with each song I feel slightly more comfortable, and more options become available.. Assuming I'm baritone tho, it's going to change what I should be singing in terms of choices..My confidence has a ways to go.. (when I go into showcase and start fluffing folks handing out "10" ranks you'll know I'm getting ready to make my formal debut here)
BTW, I'm also working on pitch matching now.. Which is another reason I'm sort've camouflaged.. I want to make sure to stay as close to pitch as possible..

Wanna know something funny? When people start talking about their {Head-Voice} & {Register} and such, I am so clueless. I just listen to a song, internalize it, and sing it. I find, when I get too technical with a song, it tends to lose something. How can I explain...........................
I just feel the songs I sing, it's like I become one with the song {Crazy I know} but that's the best way to record. You shouldn't worry too much about sounding perfect & making sure you hit every note etc...Just close your eyes and let it flow...
Oh what the hec do I know anyway!!
You'll be fine Mr. Kaplan, just put as much emotion in it as you possibly can...

Be careful, you can get hung for fluffing!
You don't have to fluff folks, I'm sure you're gonna impress them just with your lovely singing alone... ![yes ](./images/smilies/emot-nod.gif)

Not crazy at all Dani, but theres a big difference.. and that's where YOU are in this craft compared to what I'm struggling to become even a fraction of..
I have this discussion with Billy (OK What Now) quite often too.. He too, just does it.. doesn't get into the technical aspects of this as much.. and here's what I believe the difference is.. Both you, and Billy are exceptionally talented, and have more of the "knack" or natural ability... I ran into this with students I taught guitar, and bass, and it became more noticeable to me with adults (who actually had to point this out to me) that are learning the piano, etc..
I don't need to worry currently as an accomplished instrumentalist while playing now about the process of developing into the musician using steps A--->B---->C ;
Currently, to me ( as a lifelong musician) I can't view this the same way as beginners learning a new language, Or -individuals who just don't appear to have the equal propensity to develop musically...I often forget that what I can just do (currently) without intricately analyzing or working on is effort for them.. I think this is the difference between where you gifted more natural singers are now, and somebody like myself who is going to need to work hard for EVERY little bit that I accomplish.. This is also what's so embarrassing to me as a musician... That singing is perhaps one of the most difficult things I've ever undertaken in my life.. NONE of this is, or comes natural to me..I'm working my butt off..
I think for some of you singing currently is a natural process, or perhaps came much easier to you.. At least to date, It's something I've struggled to figure out, and all approaches have led to the same thing.. "A wall" I'm keeping my fingers crossed that now that walls gone.. sorry for the metaphoric speak, but some of you CAN do this circumventing the intricate struggles... For me, I have to put ALL and more into this.. because just emotional singing at this point will sound like a Martian with clogged sinuses trying to communicate in a language few on earth can yet handle hearing. BUT, I have to admit, I think I'm making tremendous progress just in the past 1 1/2 days... Fact is, having the ability to have such interactive computer Karaoke, is enabling me to hear and practice in a way I never could before..and this is ALWAYS the draw for me regarding Karaoke.. Learning to sing..

I suppose I'm not the only decent musician who's had a tough to learning to play "the vocal chords" tho.. It's a very different process..
Also, I think some of you vocalists were born with nicely crafted instruments that just sounded better and gave you a head start.. I wish I could trade mine in for an upgrade, but I'm stuck with this and have to try to get it to play nicely..

circumvent = A VERY good Scrabble word! Sad we are limited to a 7 letter word though, although by connecting to already *placed* words, we can pull off a nine letter! Sowee, I LOVE words!
Well, just try your best, I mean, whatever works for you is great! I look forward to hearing more songs from ya! If I can help in any way, I will...

You can help by being TOTALLY honest (which I know isn't easy for most) and telling me where I perhaps should and shouldn't focus efforts in terms of singing range, possible technique I can use to improve (I realize this can only happen after you can hear me so you might be off the hook for a little while anyway ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) )
(Since I deem it feasible to curtail interjecting superfluous obscurrant obtuse albeit impetious supercilious verbiage ... I'm gonna hit K-solo 'n stuff if'n yez git the drift)

Wow, you know what's interesting... First thing in the morning (yeah, like around now) ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) ,, singing some of the songs I was able to handle yesterday afternoon isn't working so well... I guess warming up and getting in the groove is pretty important

Come to think of it, I should've started fluffing two years ago ![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif) They're already used to my comedy routine so my singing won't be much new..

Lena, I'll wait til the others listen to post.. But I think what is happening is using the backing as a chameleon to hide.. Similarly I've never had the confidence being "Front" anything or lead in the performing arts..So I'm not sure if I'm sound better because of confidence issues (I do feel more confident when I'm "clothed" by stronger vocalists around me", or, if I'm blending myself into the backing vocals to sortuh defray my deficit and know how to cover my butt, with their better voices... It's an interesting concept... Either confidence, OR, that's still the same singing but I'm blending myself to become an additional harmony rather than a lead.

btw Lena, with my PA, I can eq some of that out... here I have no EQ'ing ability or reverberation that is me NAKED ![Shocked ](./images/smilies/icon_eek.gif) .. problem is... I HATE that vocal quality.. Sort've like... Elvis Costello is willing to sing, but if I sang with that nasally quality, I'd rather NOT.. This is my issue... I want a stronger rock voice..

Lena, after "free'
Is when my fist clenches crack it open.
That's a very different part of the song..
That's a different register too... Almost yelling. I think this is a "headvoice"/"falsetto" vs chestvoice issue... The verses are head voice... After I warm up, I'll see if I can hit the verses in real voice... I think I could.. That might make a difference ! That'd be cool if that's the issue..
