Timbre is pretty much the one word that means "Characteristics, or PERCEIVED sound quality specific or unique to the instrument or vocal chords generating the sound.
Sort've an inherent characteristic unique that makes a trumpet sound like a trumpet, but that doesn't just encompass the "Tone" alone, but the overall characterists such as resonance that give it that brassy sound...a flute sound like a flute... or one voice sound different characteristically from another, etc.
Unique characteristic pertaining to sound quality. IOW.. I'm focusing on my pitch when I sing.. BUT, If I had Billy's voice timbre, confidence, and technique.. you wouldn't be able to differentiate between us..

Okay, it's a dirty job but someone's gotta do it.
Little Kappy is in the hospital. He hit a reflex point while rubbing my feet, and he lost an eye !
I know the hate mail is going to come in by the boat loads, but in my defense and for the final time I will say:
I DO NOT HAVE BIG FEET! :grumble:
