while clubdjpro has a better fade to the other player, good for djing which it was designed for, it is not a karaoke hosting software, meaning it lacks the rotation capability that roxbox has. It's not a flaw but Clubdjpro is what the name implies a dj program first. While it will play the karaoke files it was not designed to fully support the added tools that programs like RoxBox offers. That said I am no longer using RoxBox for my shows and am using JustKaraoke as it is designed for the newer type computers that run Vista. For dj music I still use winamp.

If you only need it as a player, then rotation capability isn't an issue. I don't use the one that Hoster has, although it technically isn't a true rotation management program, but don't see the need for one personally.

rotation-smotation!
That's what sign up slips, sheets of paper, whiteboards etc are for!
I personally can't stand ANY computerized rotation programs such as Hoster, SaxNDottys or any of the others. The kj spends far too much time dealing with all the little bells and whistles rather than having the program just play the file. The mixing capabilities of Clubdjpro are just fine, it's got key adjust, plays movie files, so my old lasers on computer (.mpgs) work great, as do my mixing videos...
That's all I need for a computer. I still love having the slips or whiteboard there so the CUSTOMERS can see where they're at, rather than having to try to take a class in computer operations to see when they're up next! !

Hi, this topic seems to have run it's course, but being new here, and looking through the posts, I have to ask a question. I'm setting up my laptop, here at home (not a pro), and before I buy any software, do any of you use the Siglos player/list creator from Power Karaoke? Their other products seem to work fine. they offer a free trial, but sometimes the limited trial programs can be frustrating with the limitations.

I own and use the program, but I can't see why you would want to. It is essentially designed to play tracks from a file *or from your CD/DVD drive*. I have heard you say you have a CDG player already, so the main reason I use it doesn't really apply to you.
If you are going to play ZIP or MP3+cdg files from your disk, it seems that you want a hosting program like CompuHost or MTU Hoster. If you just want to play them, for $20-40 you can just use Winamp + MP3G + Pacemaker, which works fine and has the extension possibility that Siglos doesn't.
That being said, I have found Siglos to work as advertised once registered.

'scuse me but I think you're giving the software an undeserved bad rap. Using computerized rotation there is no human error and you don't have to mess with it at all. If you want to show people where they're at, you put up the rotation on the screen. I don't know about Hoster and S&D but SON was completely hands off. All you did was call the name and click "Play." I suspect most of the rest are like that too.

Each to their own on how to handle their rotation management.
I have been working with CompuHost (Demo Version) lately and I love their rotation management. It is really simple. No white board, or for that matter no slips after they are entered. It keeps singers history and key change info forever so no more storing song slips for the regulars. The scrolling rotation que at the bottom of the screen tells the singers where they are in the rotation and eliminates the white board.
The entry is quick...Song, Key, Singer etc in one box...and you are good to go.
I like hosting software that has rotation management as I find it saves time over any manual system that I have tried.
What it boils down to is what you are comfortable with. As long as the singer gets to sing and the rotation does not get out of whack then who cares

mckyj57, Wow, fast comeback!
Here's exactly what I want to do. I have a Gigmaster, but, I want to load all of my CDG songs (3,000+) onto a hard drive and play through the lap top, using the Gigmaster as the sound system and a flat screen monitor for the lyrics. the Gig master would be for any guests who bring their own CDG discs. I throw home parties now and then, but I sing virtually everyday. I'd like to line up the songs I want to sing (or the party guests), and just let the playlist run, or pick and choose as I go. I'm not familiar with MP3+G yet. So, if I sound somewhat dumb on the subject, I am! LOL! Are there laptop cd players that can play CDG? I appreciate your feedback. I'm a 50's-60's guy moving into the techno karaoke age.

Sounds like you need a ripping program first, to read the songs off your CDGs.
Siglos would work for you ok, but it wouldn't provide the type of search and library tools you need. You would need to navigate your filesystem to find songs, instead of searching like you would with CompuHost, MTU Hoster, or Winamp. I don't recommend using it.
For $40, you can buy Winamp, MP3+G, and Pacemaker. Add another $39 for Power CDG Burner/Ripper. That allows you to add the songs to the media library then search them and play them, and do key changes. (Though your Gigmaster may do the key change too.)
For $99, you can buy Hoster Lite which includes a ripper, though a bad one in my opinion. It has rotation, search, and a key changer. It works well -- I use it. The Pro version costs $199, and allows you to install it on two systems.
For $179, you can buy CompuHost, which has everything. It has a USB key (dongle) which allows you to use it on multiple machines one at a time.
Personally, if you are tight on money I would use the Winamp option. If you are flush, get CompuHost.

I totally disagree with Hoster being a bad ripper, it rips well with drives that aren't recognized by other manus. As a matter of fact it & Microstudio are the only programs that recognize my new $20 LiteOn (clearance rack figured i'd give it a shot for that price) dvd drive & works perfectly. Compuhost & Powerkaraoke wouldn't recognize it, neither would Tricerasoft & a couple others.

mckyj57... here we go...
I use Power karaoke burner to do my ripping, burning, so I already have that end of the process. I do all of that 'heavy work' on my desktop, including Karaoke CDG creator pro. Sounds like Winamp may be the thing. Navigate, play, key change. I think the gigmaster will only change key if I'm playing through IT'S player. for the most part, it will become my amplifier/speakers. You guys have been so helpful!

Unless things have changed, you have to input the disk number and manufacturer, which works -- if they have it in their database. And even then, I found their data accuracy to be pee-poor, always needing correction to maintain consistency in artist name.
If they don't have the disk in their database, which was a frequent occurrence for me, we are talking manual entry. Yuck.
On top of that, it only rips to their proprietary format, which means you are stuck forever there and after using their program. If you want to switch, we are talking re-rip. If you use a ripper that goes to MP3+G format, then you can import into Hoster in a jiffy and still have the files in a format useful to other programs.
So that is why I call it a bad ripper. I abandoned their stuff and went to another. With the standalones that create MP3+G files, you can rename the files to fix the artist/title. With Hoster, you had to point and click with their bizaare database editor.

Lonman, it took forever for MTU to finally recognized most cdg compatible drive? Software like Karawin and CDG ripper were ripping cdg years before MTU. While they were only ripping with the Plextor drive, others were using the MMC Interleave mode.
MTU now has one of the best graphic extraction of all programs out there but they affect the sound, the copies don't sound has good and let's not talk about their key changer, it honestly doesn't get worst for sure!!

We will be releasing a KJ-oriented version of Siglos (Siglos Karaoke Player/Recorder Professional) in two weeks. It includes singer rotation and songs database. The price will probably be $69 (with upgrade from Siglos at $29), but is may change.

I've actually found that with any database to date if it don't match your personal entry method then you have to re-enter it anyway - no matter which format or personal preference, unless you are stuck on a specific method so again, even with their database flaws, i've never seen their ripper as a bad thing. It rips with drives that others may not recognize!
Manual entry was never an issue with me, as it helps to get to know what you have in your collection. If I entered it, there is a better chance to know that I have it without having to say 'hhhey well I don't know, let me check'! May be an inconvenience to some but to others it may be a blessing to get to know their own library without just clicking the disc number & adding it!!!!

Lonman, I would be very interested in solving this problem -- if your drive is visible in Windows it should be listed in Power CD+G Burner. Or was it listed and did not rip correctly?

I TOTALLY agree with Flipper on this... to each their own and whatever you're comfortable with. He and others like the software to do it. I'm just trying to show folks that you don't NEED a rotation software in a program... that's all!

When you wrote "I personally can't stand ANY computerized rotation programs such as Hoster, SaxNDottys or any of the others. The kj spends far too much time dealing with all the little bells and whistles rather than having the program just play the file." I think that was a bad rap. The original Sacks-O-Nuts you could still use if you were blind drunk, I know because I have done it many times. All I had to do was click play and once in a while I had to click the stop button to update the singers lists from the kiosks and the buttons were really big. There was nothing the least bit cumbersome about it. True enough there were a lot of optional bells and whistles that could be used during the show but you didn't have to. That version of SON has been retired because it won't run on Vista and the new one has dual players so it won't be as easy to use, but I don't think it is fair to lump all hosting software together. There was about ten thousands things wrong with SON 2.2 but being hard to use at the gig was not one of them. There's probably some active software out there that can make the same claim.

It was listed & visable & acted like it read it, but when I tried to load & play the file (did bin, cdg+mp3) on the Singlos demo, it just flashed the screen for a milli second & did nothing, no music, graphics or anything. Played my kma files although they did seem to hang up & the swipes would go out of sync.
It's not a huge deal honestly, maybe I was using it wrong. I know the Compuhost demo & my Tricerasoft, CDRWIN & Clone Cd didn't work at all either & I know how to use them.
