Audition has many Vocal FX for use and there are additional FX plugins available.

The advantage to using these effects is you can get a much cleaner mix; by adding a separate reverb track you eliminate the chance of a "muddier" sound with the final mixdown.

Steven, Adobe Audition is LOADED with effects and all kinds of hoopla. Problem is, it'll take ya about, oh, 3-4 years to learn it all.  LMAO

(going on 4 years here, and still not getting as good a mix as I should by now)  :oops:

You do more than one vocal track?

... too much for a simpleton like me to learn:)

I finally recorded live yesterday, rather than wait till I can find a recorder or move my msuic room around, I just ran my set up into my laptop. Not too shabby sounding of a mix, though not perfect (no honest, the singing was a 10 though,  I swear)  LMAO    LOL  But I may just stick with this, no editing, no do-overs, just singing. I still gotta play with the mix a bit, but it isn't going to be NEAR as hard as learning my way around CEP or having to wear (@$%&#!) headphones to sing:)

Glad you got a copy of Adobe Audition Steven.  Yes, it has plenty of good effects built into it already.  Now you gotta figure out how the dang thing works.  There's always a catch!    But there's plenty of us sistahs who can provide guidance as you journey through the joy and heartache of learning Adobe/CEP!  LOL

Every song I record is more'n one track Charm.  It really isn't difficult at all, ask Vicki--I taught her the same technique.  I'd be happy to learn ya how ta do it iffin ya 'ant to (how's that fer hick talk  LOL )

But I'm confused- I don't speak hick talk... honestly, I'm a northern gal;)

So what's the point and purpose of more than one track? (even us mousy haired gals can have our blonde moments...)

Here's my way of recording:

One track= singing "live" with my guitar.

Two tracks= either a) karaoke or b) as above, but guitar/vocal on seperate tracks

Three tracks= I'm throwing in a fiddle solo  LOL

Hmmmm..... You're gonna have to teach me some tricks of the trade g/f. I am not that good at mixing... and I don't have much patience either. But I'd be curious to see what that's like.

I think what Cathi is talking about is having one vocal track that is clean, effects free and EQ'd just right. Then copying (duplicating) that vocal track and adding reverb/effects ONLY to the copied vocal track then finally mixing everything down.  Any muddy tone quality changes that the effects may add will not alter the first, original vocal track. The final mix will hopefully have a clearer sounding vocal.

I like Charmin's experiments with the honest, no-nonsense, "sing the dang song already" approach to recording too. Just a live recording with no fix-it-in-the-mix touch ups.  If you know the song well and feel comfortable with it you can get some great results that sound live and fresh. You don't get that "record by numbers" or "pieced together" feeling that can sometimes occur when using multitrack recording. I think the complexity of the song may dictate which approach would work best.

Steve I have the ub 502 which is the smallest mixer Behringer makes- works like a charm but no FX at all...behringer just came out with a line of mini components that allow you to pick and choose the features you need( instead of paying tons for a gizmo that does lots of things you don't care about. If you are using a karaoke machine and a mic or a guitar and a mic- they have something called a mini mix- they run between 30 and 50 bucks on ebay. I just got one and for home use it's easy, compact and I can string it together with the other components I have in the mini series- they have an amp, a compressor, mic mixer(as opposed to the karaoke mix I got) , an FX, sterio monitor, a beat counter, EQ with feedback detection...and several others. Just go to ebay and type in behringer and 800 or "mini". But the UB502 and 802 are also fine. Just depends on what you're looking for. The mini series allows you to expand to other functions as you need to. Hope it helps.

Steven, I am using a Behringer UB1222FX-PRO mixer.  Seems to be very good for what I am using it, although I don't use the built-in effects.... I use a VOCA300 effects processor .  This is connected to one of the mic inputs of the mixer, the mic being connected to the VOCA300 input.  This has the advantage of all effects settings being saved and easily recalled.   I record directly to an mp3 recorder from the headphones output so don't use any post effects/mixing.

I'm sure any of the UB range is very suitable for your use!

This little guy here looks great too if you just need a vocal mixer without the extra channels.

No, the 1002 wouldn't be USB.  You'd still be using the line-in on your soundcard.

Is USB advantageous in terms of signal ?

I think you could get a better signal with USB especially if your soundcard isn't all that great and somewhat noisy.  There can be some latency (slight signal delay) problems with USB but you can usually compensate for this.  Maybe check with Keith or Ollie for a more detailed, educated opinion.

Don,  I want a basic program.  My goal isn't to edit and post high-end music on internet sites. In fact I really have no interest in posting my music on the internet at all. Only reason I posted as much as I did, is because I wish to learn just the very basics about singing, or how to use my voice to sing in terms of singing technique. Using headphones, those I've recently sent copies individually to can hear me quite well; The problem was my basic recording technique.  I'm looking for a simple point and shoot program. That's all.  A few more recently have given me some great references.
