I'm looking for multi disk sets/collections of the Legends Series but can't seem to find any. All I can find is single disks and they're pretty expensive. Is there such a thing and if so, where? Thanks

Legends are another one of the Hit/Miss discs.  As far as sets of them, I do not recall like anything of a core type set.  I do believe they had (it may have been the internet stores special package set) sets of 2-3 discs, again, not sure if it was their sets or the stores promo packs they put together.

Sometimes Karaoke.com has Legends on special. There are other sites (DooWop) that also run Legends pretty inexpensively sometimes.

I recently bought a set of 11 Legends (bundled set) discs off of eBay at quite a reasonable price. In the past month I've purchased about 55 different discs at about an average of $6.50 a disc which included S&H and were new shrink wrapped discs. Most of them (about 70%) have been PartyTyme and I have been pleased for the most part.

I'd recommend highly going to a retailer like karaoke.com

Many times, the deals you think you're getting... aren't!

Karaoke.com often has discs $1.00, 2 for $5, $3 apiece...

Also, you can see and write reviews of said discs... many times you think you're getting a deal, only to see many singer's and kjs that say "AVOID this disc!"

I have some Legend discs and there are some very good song versions on them.  Another thing to consider is that Legends is the only company to have certain songs.

These discs are not bad.

I have heard some not so good Sound Choice songs too.  And somethimes they get the words wrong.

Legend are Sunfly, might be easier to get hold of Sunfly

  Though both owned by the same company, the Sunfly label has more misses than hits. I only use them ( I own 2) when I can't find a song ANYWHERE else.

Which 2 Sunfly discs do you have?  In their earlier years they put out a lot of crappy sounding stuff, but for the past several years I've found the quality of their discs to be remarkably good for the most part.

You're absaloutly right. Early sunfly a bit hit and miss, much improved especially newer stuff

  I was on eBay yesterday and found an individual selling Legends in bulk. If that's what your looking for, you might want to check it out. Just type in "Legends Karaoke" in the search box. You'll be amazed at how many are available.

I search on ebay for Legends karaoke. I went through 13 pages of listings and every single listing was for an individual disk.

I'm going to look into the more recent Sunfly recordings. Can you get multi packs?

Chartbusters has multi packs but they're almost as expensive as the Soundchoice Foundations and bricks.

I'm coming to the realization as someone earlier pointed out, that I am just going to have to spend $2,000-$3,000. I'm just going to have to bite the bullet. For now I'll have to put my plans of hosting on the back burner and just DJ and perform to make some money until I can afford to build my Karaoke collection.

I talked to a KJ a couple of nights ago who has a huge collection. She has been hosting(she said) for 18 years and has purchased some collections from people going out of the business. She was using Sax and Dotties and she always played music between singers which I thought was good. Funny though, she used cheap corded mics and didn't seem to be that good at adjusting the sound, regulating the volume level of the music/singers etc. I would think that after 18 years someone would be really good. She must have used Power Karaoke to rip her CDs because there were no graphic problems with the lyrics etc. It was very clean and clear.

I saw (mostly)Soundchoice, All Hits, Monster Hits, Legends, Sunfly and I think Chartbusters. It wasn't just Soundchoice for every song.

If you go back to eBay, go to the spot where you can look up a member and look for "karaokepartyhouse". That's the one that put those "bulks" together.

Sadly, years of experience doesn't always correlate with the quality of the show. As a singer, there is nothing worse than cheap mics, and even with good mixing, a singer will never sound as good as they could were they singing through a better microphone. (I'm not sure why hosts believe that mics are something they can scrimp on.)  And you mention that this host doesn't bother to mix. Of course, if they are not aware that there is a need to mix, no amount of years of hosting will change that. I know, I'm preaching to the choir here. Bad habit I have.

Karen K, if you went to 10 different karaoke shows (10 different hosts) how many would be bad in your opinion?

Can one of you start a thread on this subject of bad KJ.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but determining if it was a bad show or not wouldn't matter how many places I went to.  If I went to 10 different places, they may be 10 different good places or they may be 10 different bad places - it's the shows themselvers - according to my standards!  There aren't too many 'good' places in my general area & our crowd reflects & corellates [sp] that as they say they haven't heard a better show anywhere else.  I know of 2 other places within a 10 mile radius that I would personally frequent & recommend.

Well, let's see...I'm with Lonman on this one.

I think our area is not typical though - us NW Washington people seem to participate in karaoke more than most based on searches for karaoke when I've gone to other cities (for example, Atlanta). As in any other business, demand dictates supply.  Years ago, it would be rare to actually meet someone who was just getting into the business (most were well established for years - Lonman maybe? -).  Those newbies would usually pattern pretty closely with the well established hosting companies. That meant spending the bull's share on music, taking care to get the best equipment they could, and maybe spending a good amount of time watching a good host in action. Many newbies learned the craft working for a good company and then branched out on their own. Most of the old-style owners are musicians in some capacity - all the experience of being in the music business can only benefit a karaoke company. Sadly, that element is missing from most of the newbie companies out there. No understanding of mixing, sound quality, etc., is what ruins a show in my opinion.

As the demand increased, and the famous phrase "you can make a lot of money with karaoke" began to spread like wildfire, there was a precipitous drop in quality.  The fee that hosting establishments was paying dropped from $250-300/show down to $100 in some places... NOT KIDDING....  Sadly, many establishments used karaoke as 'the last straw' to try and get people in. It was so hit and miss, and still is, that the quality of karaoke they are bringing in does NOT increase attendance, and at times will actually drive patrons out.  

Most hosting establishments fail to really place a true value on the 'showmanship' involved in what I consider to be GREAT karaoke.  If I went to 10 shows in our area, there might be ONE that met my criteria for being a great show. I haven't been able to get down to Lonman's show yet but I can guarantee it would hit the nail on the head, just based on his opinions and knowledge I see on this site (Same goes for the the Great Discombolater - oh man, how is THAT SPELLED?).

All I can suggest for those just getting in the business, or thinking about it - pay attention to what hosts like Lonman talk about - and there are others on this site as well (Babs, etc) who know what they're doing and of what they speak. No need to have bad karaoke.

I probably sound like a hag on this subject but our area has been so infiltrated by krappyoke that it gets disheartening.  PS: I start a new gig tonight - got a call from the guy, "Can you start Friday. I heard you were the best in the area."  Okay, I'll stay in the business for another year.

I think what is a really good or great show varies based on the beholder.

Personally, I am looking to sing. I am not going to be entertained -- that is secondary. But typically I want good sound, a host who is pleasant and easy to understand, and a good audience. This sometimes means an audience compatible with what I do.

If I get to sing several times a night, and people appreciate what I do, that is what I am looking for. Others want good showmanship, or great sound, or "high energy" or even cheap drinks. That is certainly fine.

In fact, I am not certain at all that what I want is what makes for a good and viable karaoke show. I know a couple of guys who do things that I don't like, but that appear to favor the drunken "Love Shack" singer over the more serious singer. They do well with this formula, and who am I to gainsay them? I don't personally go to their shows, but I don't think they want the likes of me.
