I thought his article was quite interesting, especially the comments made by Gillian Bonham (second page).  I think what she says about overcoming fear is very relevant... one of the problems I have when performing a new song is overcoming the nervousness of making a real hash of it (usually resulting in a less than desirable tightness in the vocal chords!)

Try this test; and see where you stand. There are 2 more interesting tests.

I failed the tonedeaf test.

Rhythm test: to test if you sing out of tempo:

Adaptive pitch test.

Post your results please.

Those look interesting Jian.  I need to wait til I'm in a certain mindset to take those tests.  Problem with those tests is you really need to be in the proper mood, and frame of mind for them, otherwise the results can be frightening, even among trained musicians... Sort've like everything with music (which is why it can really be a tough profession), I MUST be in the proper mood for it or it will suck (I mean worse than usual)

These are tricky tests! A lot of pretty complex rhythms involved here. Good thing I've never wanted to dance to hip-hop or jungle dance music!  LOL

I got an 83 percent on the tone-deaf test. The other two were too depressing to post.

I've decided not to take the tests, I've done quite well on these tests in the past but the fact is, those of us in our 50's DO have some loss, and can't compare with youngun's in the teens, 20's etc.  As we age, (not to  mention those exposed to high volume music for years with tinitus) we lose some of our sensitivity and ability regardless.  I guess I'd rather not have this stare me in the face, I can't tune the piano any longer, need to call somebody to do it.. Too tough..

It happens to ALL...

At one point in my life I was tonedeaf (since I didn't know how to recognise tone matching as an infant), and at another point in my life I will again become that way most likely.. We can't be at our prime for ever... So on these tests it's really age-bracket and lifestyle that must be considered for comparison purposes.. a 20 year old with musical experience will smoke me at 52 on the higher frequency tones. Not do to lack of experience, but do to physical limitation..  Not unlike sports..

I got an 86.1% on the tone deaf test, so you know it's gotta be wrong....'cause my memory is a thing of the past?  LMAO
