Thanks Matt,  I was about to get AMD for the first time.  Reason being I can't imagine AMD being much worse than my current Celeron Laptop, but I'm sure you know how the pro/con discussion goes when Intel vs AMD comes up, so I'm currently at an impasse holding out for Intel.  Naturally saving bucks on a (home DAW) system would be a preference. Yet it seems that this AMD vs Intel discussion is starting to look similar to the Behrenger vs never again Behrenger situation.. Trying to decide if what is problematic for some with AMD would be a founded concern given my use.
Kappy, trust me, the AMD is just FINE for home and studio use.

I wouldn't go totally bottom of the line with the motherboard, but I do admit that the last couple pcs I built I used a $78 cheapie! LOL! They worked JUST fine! Sure if I'd have gone to a 2.8 or 3.0 GHz machine it'd have been much sweeter. But for games, music, video... I've NEVER had a problem!

Also, please understand that the one I built for my karaoke setup... it's NEVER been on the net once I upgraded it to Service Pack 4 for WIndows 2000. Strictly stand alone karaoke machine, and it works like a charm!

This is a really weird thread. The type of CPU is not the issue.
As long as it works, it’s ok.
Since no two computer registry’s (in the world) except when brand new are the same,
No identical computers will behave the same.
It all comes down to what you do with it. Not what it is.

The songs on the computer will only be as good as the disc they came from.  If it has scratches on it, the words could get scrambled.  Polish the disc before you rip it.  Make it look like new.  The songs will come off the computer the same way as they went on.  If they were scrambled going in, they will be scrambled the same coming out.

I saw a quad core advertised somewhere.

Congrats!  It's so much easier to use the computer than using the discs!
