Ours was fabulous - didn't start karaoke until 9 but when we walked in at 8, the place was FULL.  It stayed full until 1:15 or so, when people started to leave. Had a not-too-long a rotation but still, most sang only 2 times. Midnight was loud and raucous. Not much dancing for some reason. The midnight buffet was tremendous but he didn't really market it in town (4 bars within 3 blocks, nobody offering more than fried food after 10 p.m.). He charged $13.95, all you can eat...some ate, but not everyone. Not too many terrible drunk people but there were the usual fights up the block at the other bars - cops, flashing lights, arrests.

I still don't know if he's going to offer me Friday night slot after watching me run the show last night. Based on what others said, he'd be crazy not to as we filled the place with our devotees..but then, not all owners make a lot of sense.

How could your New Years possibly have been more exciting than mine.

I did a New Years Eve Party at a Retirement facility. We started at 6pm and it was all over by 10pm. We sang Auld Lang Syne, and as one resident put it, "surely it is midnight somewhere."

The Karaoke went very well. The medley of "A bicycle built for two, Down By The Old Mill Stream, & Alexander's Ragtime Band" would have brought a tear to your eye had you been there.

On the upside I had my equipment loaded & was home in bed by midnight. I celebrated the New Year with a slice of buttered toast and a warm glass of milk.

No hangover today and I feel great.

Glad you had a great night, mine was nothing special except I had a strange experience.

I did the DJ thing, not KJ. I played a few request for this girl which was no biggie. Later she comes up and thanks me and wants a hug. again no biggie but when shes giving me the hug she whispers"Are you with her, cause me and this guy just ain't clickin"(my girlfriend was with me NYE)I told her YES and she went back to her date. A few minutes later I see her talking to my girlfriend for what seemed to be the longest time. Later my girl comes up to me with this confused look on her face and says"I think that girl was hittin' on me". I started laughing and told her what she had said to me. We forgot about until we saw her talking to one of the servers and trying to kiss her on the cheek. After closing, the server told us that girl wanted her to go home with her and her date. We all got a good laugh and have a funny experince to remember.

I'm glad these people only come out once a year.

Happy New Year

Mojo

Full house, 42 singers in rotation, had our annual 'Lucky 7' contest finals, did about 20-25 minutes of dance music between 11:45-12:10, everyone that was there from start to finish sang 2 songs - the 7 'Lucky 7 finalists' got 3 (that stayed).  All in all no major complaints, no real problems, drunker than usual people i'd have to say.

Mine was ok.  It was a last minute thing... got a text a couple days before.  Went well though, my laptop was down so borrowed one from another KJ friend, and after several wierd error messages, got it up and running.  For the most part had about 3 people in rotation (with the occasional other singer) before mid-night but after midnight, I was only able to get about 1 rotation in before bar close thirty.  Midnight didn't go as planned, I had a midnight mix complete with countdown and everything.  When my clock (which was apperently a couple min. behind the clock being used at the Space Needle (in Seattle) on TV said 11:54, the bar tender told me we had 15 sec. and to kill the music.  I scrambled and loaded up Auld Lang Syne and played that while the bar tenders sprayed the crowd with silly string.  Everyone had a great time though even with the low singer count.  My thoughts on that is that it wasn't the venue's usual Karaoke night and wasn't really advertised, but hey, I got paid and people had a good time.  Works for me.

I had a pretty good night, didnt end up starting till about 10, they had a dart tourney going on that ran till after 11 but it was decided that we could start when we were ready. well for the first time i had trouble with my puter..figured out I had put power to the hard drive before I had the wire to the puter hooked up. so I unplugged it , shut down the puter, plugged in and re started..wooof what a relief.. I carry a cavs JB99 in case the puter has an issue, but prefer not to be making people look up the numbers of songs they already have up.

After we got going things went great, had my partner do the count down then sing auld lang syne. I sang along to try to get the crowd to help but no luck. My wife actually came out. she had not been in a bar since we got married in august! and we even got her to sing karaoke for the first time. things died off about 3am and we ran some dj till 3:30 an packed it in. all in all not a bad night, got paid twice what my prior top pay was. Plus $50 that i rented out my small pa for at the last minute. I was able to give my help $150 and still had my best paying night ever. A year ago I had done 2 karaoke shows an 1 DJ show so this year is off to an awesome start. on wednesday of this week I will have made more in 08 than I did in all of 06.

Well...really the I can't complain on the whole weekend.  It went pretty well, Fri night got cancelled because of a snow storm, so I did make it there to setup and then went somewhere else with some friends.  Sat night turned out good, we had a descent crowd all night.  New Years Eve was real good.  It wasn't jam packed, but we had a good hearty crowd all night and kept it rockin' till last call (3:30), played till 3:45 and was out by 4:00.  It was a very long night.  I did have this one chicky that wouldn't stay off me, way..way over the top..drunk & all over me, with my wife right there.  So I had to play the 'not interested' card over and over..hehehe, quite funny!  Didn't have as many singers as I would've liked, way more DJ....but lot of dancin' and good time had by all!

Great New Years Party- 215 guests paying $10 a pop for free hats, beads, and a glass of champagne. No karaoke- just deejaying all night long- mostly hip hop and reggae.

I received a nice $800 paycheck and $96 in cash/ tips for song requests!!

We finished at 4am and started at 10pm- ..i ended up sleeping 12 hours today!

So...Other than a drunk 280lb skank knocking over a speaker which i luckily caught before it crushed her skull, the night was a huge success. The owners offered me a 5th night of work on fridays, but only as a DJ for $200 for 5 hours.

I will consider it...but i do get sick of the SAME Place already at 4 nights.
Does that  ever happen to y'all??

Happy New Years Everyone! :oh yeah:

It went okay. The weather here was horrible. I barely made it to work and I only live about a mile away. I think we got about a foot of snow.

It wasn't a packed house ,but we had a nice crowd. As a lot of you know we had comedians come in. Because of the weather only 3 showed up instead of 6. That was a god send. The 1st comedian was really funny. She went on about 9:30pm and had everyones full attention. That went well !

The second comedian went on about 10:30pm. People didn't pay attention and he wasn't that good. I know a few people complained to the owner because they wanted to sing.

The third comedian went on at about 12:30. Hardly anyone listened and she was horrible. The owner had her stop her routine after about 5 min.  LMAO It was obvious people wanted to party and sing. They had no attention span for a comic, especially a bad one.

Even though we had bad weather and a couple stinky comics it went well.

We partied like it was 1999.

I did karaoke and DJ.  I'd run through a rotation then play some dance music.  Had to remind people it wasn't a karaoke night, but a karaoke/dance night so not to count on all songs being sung.  Didn't have any no shows which I found odd.  People were having a blast.  Had probably the best crowd in a long time.  We shut down the town.  Awesome night.

NYE was fine - I started at 9:pm and noticed thatr many of my regular singers were some of the 1st ones in the place so we started up karaoke about 9:30 and had a great time.  I stopped the Karaoke about 11:30 for some regular "party music"
and restarted up about 12:30  until about 2:30am.   I didn't stop playing regular music until 3:30am  as the bar was able to stay open until 5am.

Our little place had a perfect nite, IMO.

Bar was crowded, but not very many singers in rotation. (perfect... as in... from a singers' point of view)  :D

The night ended with about an hour & 15 min of dance music, which we were all ready for. Then, of all crazy things, the bartender (who had been dancing with us) opened up a bottle of bubbly and sprayed the dancers down.  LMAO Was kinda fun, but I bet he regretted it when he had to clean up the sticky mess from all the tables and chairs that got hit.

Charmin is correct!  It was a fun, good sized crowd. It wasn't jam packed which is a good thing when it comes to our bar. Lot's of opportunities to sing. The dance music did get on my nerves though but I'm an old guy with old tastes (I may have to personally yank the speaker cables and be 86'd the next time I hear that trashy "Crazy Byotch" song).   LOL  And yes Michael the bartender is a bit of a nitwit!  LOL

We had an awesome NYE!  It was me and three other performers - not karaoke, just us performing and then DJ'd dance music.  It was an older country club crowd...we were kinda surprised at how many requests we got for "fast dance music." *laugh*  We worked our butts off and I think I'm just about recovered...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh, my MOST requested song!  I played it once on NYE, the 1st song after Auld Lang Syne, by request of course...

I want Mojo's night (send her to Halifax) lol.  We had a pretty well full house about 20-25 singers, went from 9-2.  A good time had by all.

I don't think ive even got that one for DJ. but it does get done for karaoke pretty often. Ill let that one go a couple times if nobody sings any of the really crappy songs like goodbye squirle or if i had a milion dollars (I'd buy and destroy every copy of that song)
