That's the issue i have. Darts, pool, golf or bowling games will never produce anywhere near the income a good night of karaoke can bring in. It's a matter of economics 101. And as far as the sports crowd it's the same thing. There are not many loyal sports fans in the bar week after week. It depends on the game and it's importance. The home team very rarely plays at the same time from week to week. So that already knocks down their loyalty rate. Some games are early afternoon, some are in the evening, some are on every other day of the week. Plus you have different sports events also. Pro Football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, golf and the college football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer and local football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer. That doesn't count boxing, wrestling
karate...all of which contribute to lost income for the bar, if the home teams are on a losing streak.
The karaoke crowd is much more loyal. I don't see how anyone could make enough money owning a sports bar. If they did, why would they need a karaoke night or a DJ night or a band night??? Think about it. Sports bar means you'll need to suppliment your income with something else that attracts a loyal steady crowd.
Karaoke doesn't depend on a winning season. Doesn't depend on who's on injured reserve or who got traded or who is on steroids.
Personally i would rather stear clear of working in a sports bar. All they attract is nuts anyway. Always complaining about the music volume, they themsleves are very noisy and inconsiderate. Bad juju, like Tarzan would say. Give me a good steady, loyal, under control karaoke crowd anyday.
About the big game on Saturday. I'm thinking about just not being there at all. I really don't think the singers will wait at least 2 hours to sing. And if the home team loses, which is highly possible, everyone will be drunk and in a Sh**ty mood. Do i really want to face that possiblity? With my equipment there set up all day unattended. Ohhhh I'm getting cold chills thinking about it.

Darts in our club are huge, they are almost as packed as the karaoke sometimes more & do bring in a huge income. They only have 10 boards set-up. They even had to remodel to accomodate the extra boards a few years back. The next step would be to drop karaoke and add more boards where karaoke is set-up now (knock on wood).

My old venue 5 years ago had huge dart-leagues every weeknight and pool-leagues on the weekends. Both leagues fortunately liked karaoke and were always singing along.....The bar/restaurant did make very good money on both.
most of the dart/pool leaguers were softball players that went from playing at the field down the street right to the bar/restaurant afterwards. A lot of them parked at the bar first and walked to the fields.
it certainly makes a difference where you live and how big your venue is. The place i mentioned could hold 600 people and also had video games/basketball games like dave & busters. The place was huge. 15 pool tables and 12 dart boards. The place was called Champions but was bought out by Hard Times..best chili in the world!!!
i do miss the $300 a night paycheck for 4 hours of karaoke. I don't make as much now but have 4 nights instead of only one...and i don't have to bring speakers now- my back is thankful for that!

One dart board or pool table is enough to screw up the entire atmoshere of the bar.

Anyway, some tables must be moved for me to set up. The staff is supposed to tell the people that sit at these tables that they must move at 9 oclock for karaoke. Well it seems that there is always some hard head that doesn't want to move. Just being jerks or maybe trying to get money knocked off their bill or free drinks.
Someone even called the corporate office (It's a franchise) and complained because they were asked to move. That's really being a jerk.
If it was my bar, the first time i'll ask you nice. < That's all it should take for any normal person.>
The second time i may again ask you nicely. < Tells me that they may not be normal people. >
The third time i'm bringing in the goons and you will move one way or another, you pick. < You'll be treated like the jerks you are.>
Also tonight, there is a dart board near the door i come in. There always seems to be someone shooting. Well they never seem to want to move out of my way either. Some muscle guy wanted to stand in my way so i would have to bump into him everytime i came in. It got confrontational tonight. He said can't you say excuse me? I said can't you see i'm coming in?
Later he tells me that he can't stand having someone tell him what to do. Well go home and take your medication and leave the normal people alone, jerk.
Just what people with issues need, alcohol.
There is no reason for people to act like jerks. Or is there something i have missed?
Do any of you have people (jerks) like this?
Yup, you missed, in stating the conditions of your hire, that there will be no darts, pool, or videogames in operation in the karaoke area for the duration of your show. If they want you, they'll make it happen, as these things can only detract from the show.
