But a 17 year old boy is dead. I don't think you'd feel the same way had it been your son, or nephew, or cousin, or brother who was killed.
It's a stupid, senseless accident that shouldn't have happened. Yes, provoked, but still.... how in the hell can any man sit there and say they have no empathy for this boy or his family?
. If he were my son, and he lived, I would kick his stupid arse.. Sounds like he/they was/were a classic case sociopath.. I rarely agree with anybody completely, but by God m'man, I DO with ya on this! This is akin to saying that a kid taunted a killer (PERSON), and when they retailiated, awww, the poor kid.
You raise children up to respect life, and to act responsibly. When my son got found guilty of using meth, I gave him NO quarter. He stayed in jail until he could see the judge.
These are WILD animals, and they always say NEVER to provoke them. Yes a teen is dead, and another critically wounded. But this tiger didn't do it because it hungered for man flesh!

Very simply there are no winners here, only losers. Yes, I feel for the parents who lost their child and yes, if he had survived you're dayum right I'd have kicked his a$$ and more'n likely not just once.
I've never understood how people can be so cruel to animals. This whole ordeal is a waste of life, period.

If that tiger was the "alpha animal" of the group. He became the alpha from shear brute strength. As the alpha animal, his self imposed duty is to protect the group to the death. Every animal including man has a kill or be killed instinct.
Your little dog will die protecting you and your family fighting any kind of animal, if he thinks the threat is real and deadly, "in his mind."
The cat was not on a hunt for food. They keep those animals well fed. Plus they are smelling people food all day long. (That's people and food people eat)
The cat obviously felt there was a significant immediate danger to him and the group of tigers. He was not eating his victims. He was on a kill or be killed MISSION. Nothing more. If it was a food hunt, he could have jumped out long ago.
Someone did something to put that fear of death in the tiger. He didn't wake up and say today's the day i make my escape and kill some visitors.
People do not realize that a wild animal that is half, 2/3 or as big or bigger than you could kill you. An elephant, gorrilla, large monkey, lions, tigers & bears, oh my... all have that potential. IF threatened or they preceive danger to themself. I do not want to be around any of these types of animals without a barrior of some kind between us. You all have seen the "When Animals Go Wild" videos. Awwww look how cute, next thing you know your being attacked. No thanks.
Do not provoke any wild animal, no matter how cute you think they are.
Something STUPID happened and the result was a deadly mistake for all involved.

In the eyes of a human we need some reason why the tiger attacked. In the eyes of a tiger meat is meat.

One of the most aggressive animals in this area is a moose. Google youtube moose attack. You will see some violent video. They will attack a car and totally destroy it. If you shoot one make sure the first shot counts.

Cruelty to animals is the classic "Serial Killer" beginnings.. Those arsewipes that shoot up schools, all hurt animals when young..
Some say it may be F. A. S. related.. (Multigenerational)
As for me, if it were my kid, kick his dumb arse.. and then again..
And Matt would help me.. LMAO

Best battle i saw was when my kids had a very big rabbit, It used to beat the hell out of our cats and literally take chunks out of them.
Now if you can find a rabbit the size of a tiger i think we'll have a battle royale.

My dog as we speak is having a false pregnancy. She just "delivered" 2- 6" long stuffed animal "pups" lying on the couch in a "blanket nest " she built for them. She growled at me because i went over and touched one of them. STUFFED animal pups. Not breathing, not real & not warm.
The tiger was protecting it's territory and group family.
The threat was very real to the tiger. His MISSION: Eliminate the threat, save the group. He did. CASED CLOSED.

Hmm, okay lets see, a public zoo that did not follow guidelines for a tiger enclosure that in the end allowed a tiger that had exhibited aggressive behavior when not being taunted to escape. ( a tiger being aggressive, who'd a thunk it! ) A public zoo, which means you and your family could have been there. Normal response when a human being sees a 400 lb tiger running loose, run like hell, normal response for a tiger when it sees something running, attack it, usually by the neck to quickly incapacitate its prey.
In no way do I condone what that ( those ) kid(s) did, but unless he crawled down into the enclosure and stood at the edge of the moat and taunted the tiger, he did not deserve to die, 6 months in jail, 40 lashes with a cane, whatever, but he is someones son, brother, friend. Apparently a few people on this forum I guess even when they were 17, have never done anything stupid, yeah right! Regardless of how well you raise your kids, enivitably they will do something stupid, kind of comes with the territory.
I think at times when we are young we do things where deep down inside we know they are very dangerous, and yet at other times we do things ( like a friend of mines daughter who was riding on the hood of a car going less than 10MPH ) that we think are innocent, but yet still very dangerous. This is simply a tragedy all the way around, a sequence of events that started way before that kid ever taunted that tiger.
I don't hunt anymore ( for over 20 yrs ) just a personal decision, still fish a couple of times a year, but I abhor trophy hunters. I think tigers may be one of Gods most beautiful creatures, so I do sympathize the destruction of a rare, beautiful and powerful animal that sadly are dissappearing from this earth in the wild.
ATTENTION! Now stepping off of my soapbox. My .02, case not closed!

Absolutely correct:
Sure, the kids were likely very wrong..
Sure, the tiger was being a tiger, and she was known to be VERY aggressive
TRUE, the zoo is responsible for the tigers well-being, and the protection of it's visitors. The tiger was able to escape its grotto. The ZOO IS AT FAULT !
Why is a higher profile atty taking a case on behalf of a family that can likely NOT afford him ? Easy, this is an OPEN AND SHUT case ! Zoo loses, Atty's approach families wanting cases such as this...BIG BIG MONEY !!!!
The ZOO was negligent REGARDLESS ! Tiger isn't on trial, tiger never got one.. Tiger is dead. Whether the 12.5 wall height when 16.4 is recommended on aggressive cat grotto walls was compulsory or just recommended (in accordance to the 1994 re-established recommendations), THAT doesn't matter anymore because this will in no way vindicate the zoo from it's responsibility to house a potentially lethal species of animal, especially one that ripped off the arm of it's feeder one year ago.. (perhaps this is a difficult time of year for the cat, who knows... she's 4 years old, maybe this is innate protective behaviour, this is prime breeding age for a tiger)... Cat escapes...did the kids break into the zoo and let the tiger out ? I doubt it... are they wrong for being bratty kids displaying aggression, YES VERY... KIds are kids, and many of us were brats too !!!! Sure they were wrong.. Zoo must protect the cat too from that nonsense !!
The kid killed wasn't a kid seen by an eye-witness as taunting the cat, the two brothers that survived were.. The kid killed tried to protect his friend, yeah, he might've been doing wrong too, who knows... but the woman who was an eyewitness didn't see HIM growling at the cat... WHAT IF she and her kid stayed around when the cat escaped moments later, her and her kid could've gotten killed.. Is the cat wrong ? NOPE... It's a cat... are the kids wrong, Yeah, of being a-hole aggressive teens, many of we males WERE at one point... BUT... Ultimately the zoo is responsible for the cats well-being and the well-being of ALL visistors...
Easy case

Oh and by the way ( sorry can't help myself ) just because you believe something that doesn't make it true.
People that go into schools or place of businesses and kill at random are not serial killers they are simply murderers, serial killers kill for a totally different reason and yes they usually have some sort of deviate behavior in their past. A serial killer can be a mass murderer eventually, but someone who goes in their place of business to kill everyone is not a serial killer. A mass murderer is usually angry at the world or an individual and wants to exact revenge and is usually suicidal.
Tigers, while very territorial are solitary animals and do not live in groups. Tatiana did not have cubs she was protecting either.

Told you so, even a 3rd rated atty could win this case.

I agree that this is an easy case to win. Although not sure I'd ever put a 3rd rate atty on such a case.
..
can you imagine two parents sitting at a dinner table having the following discussion,
"OK, now that we've gotten rid of that bratty kid how can we maximize our income ?
Perhaps if we just use a paralegal we can save on payout, and maximize our profit, better yet, let's take this case pro se, there's plenty of info on the Internet"
