Do you think the karaoke disc manufacturers are geared more to the home user or KJs.

Home user is the bigger segment of the market. Any manu who think eitherwise, and geared their marketing strategy wrongly will miss the bigger target group. This is true in the West and even more so in the East.

While kj's essentially helped build & mold the karaoke industry to the point it is today, with pirating to the point it is, kj's are no longer the primary target of the manus, the home market has exploded in the last couple years alone & that is now where most manus have shifted their sites, Sound Choice has admitted this on their own forums & have stated the same that karaoke will never be like it was as far as new releases coming out several discs a month & many of their newer releases will be geared toward home markets which is evident with the releases of the Spotlight Select series in which reissues songs that are already out.

Well, with the lack of newer releases, I would take the assumption that it would eventually hurt.

I think Booze itself has seen a big shift to the home market as opposed to the bars and clubs over the last decade or two.  With tighter control over drinking and driving, stricter laws on smoking in public places, a declining economy in general, a more health consious populace and other factors the folks who make alchohol products are selling more to the end consumer than the bars nowdays.

The times, they are a changing, not all bad though, I make more for a home party than a bar generally as folks that have parties at home aren't as stingy as folks who own bars and they generally don;t mind paying for quality.  At least that is my experience with it.  The folks may be buying lots of CDGs for their home systems but it's not the same as singing through a decent PA to a crowd of adoring fans.  They will keep coming to the shows I think, it's just practice to do it at home, aual masturbation sort of.  Music is only half done until you share it with someone.

Chart Buster is coming out with the new country IE Sugarland that are popular now.

Trends go in cycles There was a period when public karaoke was declining, however in this area (college town) it is booming again. The singers have changed They are not hard core "when am i next" but are very savvy & polite.  The overall talent and singing quality is outstanding and the listening audience goes wild. It is no longer a fad but a way of life. I got burned out with the old karaoke ways but actually look forward to karaoke night again.

Karaoke is very strong in our market. No declines here!

I think that the same folks who are buying in the home market will want to sing their stuff in bars. People want to be heard.

Yup, a lot more rewarding to have a crowd listening! That will never change. I think a lot of people buy small home systems to practice so they are more polished when they make their public debuts....
