Sat we had security that checked everybody's ID at the door. Groups of people 10-12 would come in see no place to sit and leave. One drunk was harassing my host which really wasnt bothering him that much but but the security guy was on him in a minute.

It's sort of nice and if anything happened to the gear we would have a sober witness as to what happened.

It reminds me of bars years ago with everybody wired and going nuts. We could tone it down a bit with slower filler music etc. but we are in the habit of high paced high energy shows.

I seriously doubt that the filler music is having much effect on the state of the crowd.  It's just background noise to the people who aren't paying attention to the show.  You could play nothing but Yanni and there would still be bar fights.

Play punk music all night and see what you get.

It has a real effect.   Same if you played love songs all night.  You control how the crowd acts and reacts.

Music totally sets the mood and the beat sets the tempo of a crowd.  When cd progammable jukeboxes came out we would program a couple of soul songs right before happy hour in country bars. All of a sudden the jukebox was stuffed with dollar bills.

The secret is being able to read the crowd and energy as what to play. Remember variety is the spice of life and a true music lover likes all genres.
