I'm in the process of ripping 925 CDGs and wonder about the efficacy of burning at a ratio of 128 instead of 96 - as I understand, 96 gives you much better quality, but am wondering about the space issue/difference.

Actually the lesser number will yield worse results.  Hard drives are cheap, get a big one & rip at the best possible!  I have over 800 cdg ripped into Hoster @ 192 & it only takes up 82 gig on a 250 gb hard drive!

I would say go for the highest possible rate.

Thanks. Will change it to 128, or maybe even higher. I've been checking the actual files occasionally and everything is clear as a bell. I'm so happy I've finally gotten this chore underway but MAN OH MAN, it's taking a long time!

If you are real careful with your book id's (not using the same numbers), you can use both computers to rip then combine the drives.  It took me a couple months to complete.

Thanks for the tip - will contemplate doing just that. I have it set up in my living room and every time one of us walks by, we start a new one....It is taking about 20 minutes per...not going to think about how many discs I actually have to burn...or do the calculation. Just glad I'm at home during the day and need to get up and walk around anyway.

When I was in the burning phase, I would be able to get about 30-40 discs per day done in 6-8 hours using both computers.  Again, just make sure you don't use duplicate book id's, make a table list, & check them off as you use them, don't use the 'next' button.

I used to rip at 128, and now rip at 192... never regretted that decision!

Do it at 192. Hard drives are inexpensive now. Even that many CDs won't fill up a 500GB drive. Keep an eye out for sales on the internet and you can snag a 500GB drive for around $125. At that price it's worth getting two and keeping one in a safety deposit box or somewhere safe. Just think how much time it's going to take to rip all those CDs.

Or, you can run a backup program and put everything on DVDs and then put them in a safe place. Make sure you use a good CD or DVD drive to do the ripping. I found out that there is a difference. I thought it was audiograbber's fault and then I ripped one on a different PC that had a "better" drive. No graphic artifacts and the lyrics were clear and clean. Check some of the songs you've already done before you get too far along. If you've already ripped some at lower bit rates than 192, go back and delete them and re-rip them at 192. You will have better sound quality. You only want to do this one time.

I just went back and re-read the first post and I saw you are using MTU Hoster so you probably got your drive from them or found out ahead of time that your drive is compatible-you're not using audiograbber. I'm sure you'll get better results with MTU.

Stick with it, it's worth it. Once you use a computer and get comfortable with it you'll be so glad you made the change. Just not having to carry around all those CDs will make it worth it to convert to PC. Searching for a song is really easy too.
