Thanks for pointing that out Mike, You are right the original All Hits are what I was refering to. Thay can still be found Online ebay,karaoke.com sometimes. Wish I had bought the whole series when I seen them as a set. I just wanted to try to keep sarge from buying some of the same bad quailty disc that I bought and found out the hard way many moons ago...

As far as I know, the music for All Hits is the same as Sweet Georgia Brown. At least every All Hits track I have seen from a KJ (Doctor My Eyes, Alone Again, Try to Remember) has been the exact same track for music. Sometimes the words are different, it seems.

Bear in mind this is just my recollection, but I asked a KJ who had some and he suggested that was the case.

All Hits, SGB, MegaHits (the original from early 90's not the current MegaHitz), Helluvadisc, and a couple others that escape me right now are all 1 in the same company.  They have changed graphics from time to time to fit their new label image but generally the music is the same.  I have seen some SGB discs WITH All Hits graphics.

DK was one of the first companies to make CD+G karaoke discs. Some of there versions are still the best.  Then Pioneer started with the laser discs, that had a full video production behind the words.  Like mini movies to keep the non singers entertained.   Musically 99% of theirs are the best.    Then Music Maestro and all the others started to come out.  Then Pioneer came out with it's CD+G discs.

I like the laser disc songs, don't get me wrong. But I have to disagree. There are quite a few clinkers in this overall excellent collection.

MUSICALLY , i think that DK karaoke are as good as sound choice, except that they are recorded a half step lower , their versions are sometimes short (cutting off the ending of the song , you'll never find by lou rawls comes to mind) and that DAMN ANNOYING PAN FLUTE that makes you sing extra loud to sing over them! :read:

Or in the case of Folsom Prison Blues, a half-step higher.

Actually, I find most of the songs I sing are in the same key as everybody else.

I wonder if they mostly do it for tenor or soprano songs, where it is probably the best move for most singers. I never sing those, so I wouldn't know.

This is usually a good thing, in my opinion. MSPH.

That annoys me more and more over time, since I know the song. But I think it does help singers who don't practice like some of us do.

I have all of the newer DK disks (came into it too late to find a Millenium set) and often they have my favorite version.

Pioneer does have some fine disc as well the music on most of them is right on. Do they still sell them? I have a small collection of them and some of thier versions are my favorite to sing to. Al green Let's stay together comes to mind.

Pioneer has been out of the game for a few years now.  You may be able to find some here & there in the stores but not necessarily what you want, it's usually what everyone else don't want.
DK admitted years ago they recorded some songs lower than the original simply because they felt it would be easier for some to sing.  Probably why the Folsom Prison was a step higher as it's generally too low for most in standard key.

I also have qite a few All Hits that sound pretty dang good.

One thing I would like to point out here is that there is a BIG difference between the ORIGINAL All Hits (AH8001-8023, AH7051, AH8421, AH9821 & AH1701) which is a decent product and All Hits 2000 which is crap.  If I'm not mistaken, All Hits 2000 and SGB are the same thing.  Be aware that All Hits 2000 used SOME songs from the original All Hits, so these songs are pretty good (you can tell by the logo at the beginning of the song).

The Above are words to remember. Any of their best songs ( White Rabbit, Wonderful World, always come to mind) are on the 8*** series.  I'm not sure if the 200 series and SGB are actually the same, but they do sound like it in most cases, the many titles differ...

I've heard this before ( besides the All Hits/SGB post I mean), but am a bit confused.  I'm pretty certain that there has been no production under the SGB label for a few years now ( despite seeing "new" sets out there).  Can you mention the name of the main company?  I want to see what other labels might be included...

No debate here Lon, I'm actually just curious.

I think All Hits is the main company, but since they never put down any contact info, you can only go by their strikingly similar sound quality, graphic swipes/quality, the way they sample real songs for intros alot, and the fact that some SGB discs actually use All Hits splash pages (plus none of the mentioned companies put their contact info on their discs & almost all used at one time or another the joke copyright disclaimer "Not to be played in public unless played at full volume", not sure if the later ones did or not.  But of the companies I mentioned, they are all still available under All Hits but not their original label.  SGB has supposedly just put out 2 new discs if I recall correctly.  I know they used to only have 66 (if i'm not mistaken) & now they have 68 - the last with newer songs - last couple years anyway.

[quote="stogie @ Sat Jan 12, 2008 3:36 pm"] At the risk of showing my lack of knowledge, who is DK Karaoke?[quote]

Daiichikosho Co., Ltd

DKKaraoke made some of the best quality studio recordings of karaoke music. The DKKaraoke 1-99 set is still condsidered one of the best.

There are those who don't like the flute track, but there are those of us, such as myself, who choose DK over all others for the songs they made, because musically they are superior.

DKKaraoke is no longer in business.

Thanks, Lon.  Actually,  I believe the so-called "new discs"  are re-numbered  or re-compilations.  Besides the original 66 disc set, SGB put out two "funPak" sets  (SGBFP- 3 & 4 discs),  A "Female Superstars" set ( SGBFS- 3 discs), A "Classic Rock" (SGBCR- 3 discs), a "Super Pop" set ( SGBSP- 5 discs ), and a "Toolbox" ( SGBTB- 10 Discs).

Most of these are recompilations from the originall 66, but many have additional tracks not on the 66....
